Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

I am interested in this theory but don't have my 64 anymore. Can someone please post pictures of the tower, staues, and/or trifore symbols? Thanks!

Here's the best I could find:

This of course is from an early version of the game. The pointing hand and odd pillar were already there.

This is from the final version, and the hand and pillar are in the background, where the A and B buttons are. There's a block in front of the temple entrance, and on the bottom of those blocks you can see the Triforce. The entrance to the Stone Tower is a gigantic version of one of those blocks, and you walk up the tongue.

Here's the top of one of those pillars:

And here are the statues with the Triforces:

Here's the Garo Master and the Giant's Mask. I couldn't find an image of the Stone Tower itself, but here's a nice fanart picture of it.

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

Hmm.....I never saw noticed those triforce marks on those statues!

But I think I found some more evidince that supporsts your theory. When you first arrive in Termina and meet Tatl, you see a Triforce image. However, the points of this triforce are toppostes, like the segmants have been turned up side down...

I think this shows Termina is a cursed land, with it's reverse Triforce symbol, a land that is turned away from the Goddesses, in the way a reverse Crucifix shows blasphemy and turning away from god.

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

I always considered Termina a twisted parody of Hyrule. Hyrule is blessed by the gods, but Termina was its twin, and was cursed by the gods.

Maybe by saving Termina, the Gods destroyed Hyrule in its place.

I agree with you on your theory Dan and enjoyed reading it. You provided much evidence and good knowledge to back it up. I never thought about the rainbow at the end when the moon is thrown into the heavens as a sign, much like it is considered here in our world. I have a question though...Is the gods/godesses the same ones that watch over Termina as that of Hyrule. Why would the gods destroy Hyrule, one of the greatest nations in the Zelda world, but spare the, somewhat parallel world of Termina? Or could Termina be the main nation, and Hyrule nothing but a parallel of it?

I don't think the redemption of Termina is connected to the destruction of Hyrule, but I think it's ironic that the goddesses ended up sparing the irreverant Termina and wiping out their beloved Hyrule.
I'm hoping Twilight Princess will explain just what went so wrong in Hyrule before the Flood. (And it would be completely awesome if TP provided some backstory about what happened with Termina.)

That's a really interesting way of interpreting it.

Thank you. It's been almost unanimously dismissed as fanfiction at another forum I tried posting it at, even though I think I did a good job of defending it there.

I'm confident the same goddesses watch over both realms, since otherwise there's no possible explanation for the Triforce on the Stone Tower statues.
Additionally, the Goddess of Time was aiding Link in Termina, the same goddess Zelda prayed to in Hyrule. That proves that the same deities watch over both worlds. The Goddess of Time is probably Nayru. I think sea once pointed out that the color associated with time is blue, and Nayru's signature color is blue as well. Plus, while Din formed the earth and Farore brought forth life, Nayru created the natural laws, which should include time.

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

THANK YOU!

Finally, someone who agrees with me that Nayru is the Goddess of Time!

You probably won't go for this theory, and I know it was proven rather unpopular over at the general area while it was still there, But I say that the Oracles are either:

1: The Sages of the Goddesses, or
2: The Goddesses incarnate.

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

I'm just thinking, if Nayru is the Goddess of Time because she created the natural laws, which includes time, then would that make the Goddess of Sands Din? Meaning that the Desert Colossus is actually a huge statue of Din?

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

Sounds plausible, but I'm not quite sure, I always considered her as more of a goddess of Nature, like her 'Sage'.

Wow. I'm not completely sure if I agree with everything theorized in this thread, but I must say that the majority of what was said at least had a substantial base of evidence. Very nice job. Please continue theorizing and posting!

Thankyou! That makes me very happy.

I think you maybe right about Hyrule's destruction not being connected to Termina's redemmption, but I do consider Termina to be Hyrule's twin in another universe/planet.

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

After reading your Tower of Babel explanation, I have to say that I'm impressed. Very well thought through and very well put together. I must profess that this is one of the best origin theories I have ever read. And according to your explanation, Link fought Twinmold in Hell. Awsome. Keep up the good work.

Legendary Hero has made me think. Could the firece detity mask come from the same deminsion the Majora Mask came from? Ponder it.

I do believe that Majora and Fierce Deity were in rival tribes, if I remember correctly. So they have to be in the same space...

Dimension is another story.

Re: Stone Tower of Babel: Why Termina was Doomed

Though this theory is well written... So is Angels and Demons.

I can't find it in myself to believe that nintendo would make a statue that represents a giant phallus. I mean, penises weren't really that offensive in the past as they are today. It's not like little villagers would look up at the heavens and say "HUH! Look at us now, you d**k!" Because it was a male symbol of strength and copulation would have been very well received back then.

A picture tells a thousand stories, and you've just told one interpretation of this image based on a statue that appears to be a phallus. It's a whole lotta fan-fic. Excellent fan-fic, but fan-fic none the less.

And the Skullkid didn't find the mask, the happy mask salesman did didn't he? And then the skullkid stole it from him.

1 thing games have taught me. It's suprisingly easy to kill an evil god.
