The Legend of Zelda Challenge

I'm playing The Legend of Zelda on my GameCube and my friend told me it is entirely possible to beat the game (sans Ganon) without a sword. Is this possible? How would I do this? I already have the boomerang (bought bombs and went as far as I needed in the first temple to do so). Any suggestions on what I should do next or if this has been documented at all?

Cheers,
Jason

Re: The Legend of Zelda Challenge

We are discussing this here, as well. It is possible, and has been well documented. I have completed this on Zelda classic last year. I used the same tactic as the three-heart challenge, keep as many rupees as possible, and take extra precaution to avoid all damage. Collect rupees, fire arrows. Arrows are your friend.

When I did it, I completed the dungeons out-of-order so I could get the more useful items first. You may find it easier if you use the Second quest (Name your account ZELDA).

Re: The Legend of Zelda Challenge

Waaaaaaay back in the day....some dude wrote in to Nintendo Power that he had beaten the first quest with the white sword and a blue ring. He then wrote in and said he had beaten it with the wooden sword and no ring. Pretty great accomplishment. Ive never tried it but I have also heard of others who have and have succeeded. Good Luck.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Challenge

It is impossible to beat LoZ without a sword, and I'm pretty sure that the Wooden Sword wouldn't even damage Ganon. Anyways, I've beaten the game with the no ring at all, and another time without saving. (I couldn't save if I wanted to. I couldn't save on the GBA version.) I didn't die once on either run.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Challenge

You can save on the GBA version... Up+B on the select item screen.

Ahh yes, teh old classic swordless quest. Surprised I wasn't mentioned. Knowing me as a fanatic of the original. It's pretty difficult, but it's not. There's money all over the place...

Re: The Legend of Zelda Challenge

it is not possible to beat zelda 1 with no sword. You must have a sword to kill ganon. However, you CAN enter ganons room with no sword. I have done it. What you have to do it devote yourself to getting the wand in level 6. make use of bombs and arrows. some stuff can be hard to figure out. toughest thing for me was killing darknuts with no sword. If you want to get the bomb upgrades in level 5 you have to defeat 2 rooms of darknuts. This is possible, I have done it. But it's really really difficult. and time consuming. plus you have to get good at bombing stuff. the smoke from the bomb has to hit the backside of the darknuts I believe. i did this a few years ago. anyhow the reason I am saying this is you are going to need those bomb upgrades if you want to make it to ganons room in level 9. getting the wand is also pretty tricky.

I have not made it to ganon without a sword on the SECOND quest yet. If anyone has done this, let me know. I'd be very impressed to hear if you did! I imagine it's basically the same as doing it on the first quest.
