Re: OOT Gameplay to MM gameplay, Which is better?

I'd say that MM played a lot smoother and had tighter controls.

The game also felt a lot more interactive, e.g. not completing part of a sidequest could change how it turns out. There's also so much more to do. Sure OoT had a longer story, but MM (for me at least) takes a lot more time to play through because of all the sidequest to do, fairies to find, etc.

And it's mess of a save system just made it all the better. Sure it was horrible to lose everything, but you can find all of the stuff right outside of the town, so no big deal.

OoT on the other hand felt a little lacking to me. It just needed a little push. MM gave it that. And no fairy telling you how to open a door... Gets to me every time.

Both are very much the same, can't decide between the two.

Re: OOT Gameplay to MM gameplay, Which is better?

I liked them equally. I like OoT because it was foolproof and easy to understand. I like MM because there's more to play with and fun things, but what puts it down is how much every copy lags for me. I want to jump over a gap, so I run forward and then Link freezes for a split-second just as he reaches the ledge, so I pull him back to take another lag-free try, but it turns out that he was already on the other side, and by going back I made him fall in the pit.

Re: OOT Gameplay to MM gameplay, Which is better?

*Yawns at obvious question*

Majora's Mask has the time system and the mask system, and all of the basics from OoT. OoT has the traveling through time function, which is used like, what, four times in the game? I will agree that OoT introduced basic controls which are the staples for all five 3D games, but that's all OoT has: a mark that claims it is the origin. Nothing more, and all Zelda games (particularly MM, for this thread's sake) have expanded on this system in their own quirks.

Re: OOT Gameplay to MM gameplay, Which is better?

MM has better gameplay than OOT. (I still like OOT better tho )
The only reason for that is beacuse MM came out after OOT and the whole gameplay had evolved a bit under the 2 years of development.

MM is basicly OOT 2.0 , kind of

Probably OoT. It's a lot more non-linear than MM. And because of that, there's more exploration.

As for combat, I'll go with MM. It's the same as OoT, but slightly improved. Plus, there's the addition of transformation masks, in which all of them have completely different movesets.

Ocaina of Time by way of having better use of the staple elements and core content than MM did at both that, and at handling its idiosyncrasies like the masks and time travel that did more a job of overshadowing and detracting from what made OOT good than adding onto it.

Re: OOT Gameplay to MM gameplay, Which is better?

I don't really think one is better than the other. They're just a bit different. While the similar weapons in the two games were controlled the same, there were different elements in MM. The use masks in MM was the main difference in gameplay between the two. Other than that, I feel that both were pretty similar.

I guess if I had to choose, I would say I liked the gameplay of MM more because of its additional elements.

Re: OOT Gameplay to MM gameplay, Which is better?

IMO, MM was an improvement in every department except camera control and framerate.
Centering the camera behind Link with the Z button works like a charm in OOT, whereas in MM, it's messed up so that you have to hold the button for a moment to ensure that the camera stops behind Link. Not a huge problem, but a tad irritating.
In addition to that, the framerate in MM is much too low for my taste. They crammed to much detail into the graphics - as with Donkey Kong 64. It's beautiful to look at, but tiresome for the eyes.

Oh, I almost forgot: The skulltulas in MM seem to be able to use the Force. Link gets hurt simply by walking in their vicinity. Annoying, to say the least.

To conclude: While MM developed and improved on OOT's gameplay in many ways, it also features a few notable sources of irritation that OOT thankfully lacks. This is likely due to the rushed development of the game.

My verdict: I like them both

Yeah MM wins in terms of having 4 (5 if Fierce Deity counts) different ways of fighting in the game
