I'm re-playing Majora's Mask on the N64 and I have to press the control stick fully in one direction for Link to run, if it's not fully pressed he'll walk. Is this normal or is my controller wearing out? The controller has been used for 8+ years and much of that was Mario Party 1...so yeah.
I don't remember this happening before, though it's been a year or two since I last played Majora's Mask on the N64, last time I played it was via the Zelda Collector's Edition.
The N64 controller sticks are some of the worst ever made.
I'm pretty sure that your controller has worn out. The best way to confront this is to hold down Z and make Link run forward in the direction that you want to head.

Gotta go with EL here. My family and I played the Mario Party series a lot and it did wear out the mechanics of the joystick which lead to sensitivity issues with the other games. Dirt/Dust was also a problem too so if you are brave enough, you can take the controller apart, clean it with alcohol, and put it back together.
i also had the same problem my family member were pretty rough with the joysticks and made them wear out really quick - its probably nintendos way of getting people to buy more things
My mom and I got those too and eventually built up a nice callus in that spot.
@mmduval: I hope getting the new N64 controllers didn't hit your pocketbook too bad and I am glad you are able to play the N64 Zeldas with better control.
