Woot! I beat Zelda II!

I just did it. I looked up some fighting techniques though.. and I did the left hand crouch attack on Dark Link. Some people say that's cheap but I think it's far from cheating because you do it with other bosses too, like the wizard that you reflect the spells he sends at you. But anyway, I feel pretty good. Beat it with 19 game overs. Less than the first Zelda, I got like 40 on there, lol but this one was a LOT harder.

Congrats. While I haven't played the game at all, I've heard that is was the most challenging Zelda game in the series, so well done.

You're a real man now. I wish I could re-experience the first time I beat the game, although beating it again feels almost just as good.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

The same jumping attack method you use on the Ironknuckles can also be used on Shadow Link. It's not as reliable, but works and also shuts up those who call it cheating if you do the ducking and stabbing method.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

That's what I used, was my 3DS, that's how I played and beat the first Zelda too, 1st and 2nd quest. If it wasn't for the ambassador program I'd be screwed, haha. I could use a emulator but they don't always run the best.

Are you one of those who call it cheating? I can't see how it would be cheating.. I mean it's in the game. Ever heard of the expression work smarter not harder? xD

Well, there's people out there who consider the Ironknuckle jump attack method to be cheating, but have you ever sat back and actually beat one of them (especially a blue one) the "legit" way? It takes freaking forever because they block everything.

I don't consider the Shadow Link trick cheating, but rather a funny way to beat him. I mean granted he IS the one constantly running into your sword. I myself laughed myself silly when I first heard about it and tried it out for myself. AoL is one of those games that just kicks your ass all throughout the game and I feel using a silly way to beat an overly hard final boss is more than justified. All us gamers have played hard games that have had us think to ourselves, "God! Make this game end already!".

I'm not raining on your parade. Was purely saying that the Ironknuckle method works on Shadow Link as well.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

Right dude? So glad I'm done with it, and no one gave me grief for cheating.. yet, lol. I just wanted the game to end too, lol I know I could of beat him the hard way if I wanted to, and that's good enough for me, lol. I just started A Link to the Past today. Fought Agarhim (don't know how to spell his name) and he sent me to the dark world on top of a pyramid, now I'm in the dark dungeon or whatever it's called. And saying that jumping for ironnuckles is cheating is crazy. lol. That would be like saying it's cheating to use strategy or any kind of technique to get the edge in a shooter game or something. I think the game is a amazing challenge even doing it the "cheating" way, I'm sure Miyamoto wouldn't consider it cheating, lol it's using what the game put in it.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

I'm not sure if you've thought about this yet, but since you seem to be going through the early Zelda games, have you thought about maybe doing an LP of it?

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

I would dude.. but it's kind of late, since I did the first 2 without it. Also I never did a LP before, I'd try it if I knew what software they used to capture it. It shouldn't be too hard, because I'm using an emulator on the PC, lol.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

If you do it on your pc, Fraps is the best.. As in, almost every lp on the pc is recorded with it.. Even the yogscast. It's £20 about.
Either that or the free hypercam.

Wait.. There's an iron knuckle tactic? I always spent ages doing it as you say legit.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

Congratulations!

I remember my playthrough of Zelda II and uploading it to the internet. It was fun.

I think I had a total of 23 Game Overs. Most of them were to save my game though, as I was too lazy to take out my second controller for the NES.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

I prefer SNES9x because it has a built in AVI recorder. For recording commentary I prefer Audacity. I'm not sure if it's allowed in the LP section, but you could also do a screen shot LP is you're worried about waking up your house while commentating.

Re: Woot! I beat Zelda II!

I'll look into it. And what's a screen shot LP? Rupin, did you fight Dark Link the hard way? If you did, you should put the link to the video if it's on youtube, I wanna watch it, lol.

@The Boy you never knew about it? I'm pretty sure I found out the iron knuckles strategy on my own, I like trying different things on all the enemies to see what works best. A lot of times I downthrust on them too to just skip over them. xD And do you know what 20 pounds is converted over to American dollars?

Nah, I did it the cheap way. The parts are on YouTube, but I was kind of bad. I 100%'d the game (All Link Dolls, spells, attacks, everything leveled up to 8, all Containers), but I did die here and there.
