ITT: Rate MM’s Spider Houses

The Spider Houses in Majora’s Mask are underrated and frequently shoved off to the side when discussing the finer aspects of the game. In this thread, rate and present your opinion on two of Majora’s Mask’s most off-key locations.

Swamp Spider House
Heavily organic with an air of mystery; the Fearful Spider House presents a South American/African tribal feel of a cursed temple. The mini-dungeon provides an abundance of natural puzzles. Some of which are quite ingenious and require a working knowledge of Majora’s Mask’s mechanics.

Reward: Mask of Truth

Personal Score: 3/5

OceanSide Spider House
In contrast with the lit and unusual atmosphere of the Fearful Spider House, the Oceanside is a dimly lit bunker, littered with the undead. This mini-dungeon feels like a zombie-less old school Resi game. Relying more on solving the unique puzzles; which are alien to the rest series.

Reward: Piece of Heart, Giant Wallet if completed on the first day, 50 rupees if any other.

Personal Score 5/5

I did the Oceanside one on the third day and got 50 rupees instead of a giant's wallet. WHY did Nintendo have to do that?

Oceanside Spider house rocks. I love that you can talk to the stalchildren and work out that heart piece puzzle. Thats awesome. Plus Library room wins my face. 5/5.

Woodfall Spiderhouse as i call it, is pretty neat but not all that great in terms of exploration. Its just...not as fun as the Oceanside one. Doesnt make it bad though. I do admit, the bug hole spider thing is clever and i like the reward. I too, give it a 3/5.

Filler most likely. Regardless the Oceanside Spider House is amazing and worth another round or two.

Oceanside anyday. The library puzzle was probably the best part of the spider houses.

Re: ITT: Rate MM’s Spider Houses

Don't kill me, but I actually liked the Fearful Spider House better. It's probably because I find it a lot more visually appealing, the gold and red and everything inside of the house just seem to look so nice. As a kid, when I first played this game, I remember enjoying that house the most because it didn't take too long to figure out but still involved using a lot of thinking like using the bugs, Song of Awakening, etc.
The Oceanside house just seemed to take forever to finish. I liked that there were more puzzles, but I always seemed to miss spiders in rooms and it just got tedious very quickly especially with the dark atmosphere of the place.

Re: ITT: Rate MM’s Spider Houses

I loved both spider houses!

I think the Woodfall Spider House was very beautiful - I loved the African design aesthetic it had. The bright colours and open puzzles intertwined with nature and natural elements made it very interesting. It really to me showed the difference between Majora's Mask and ocarina of Time thematically in that here was a much larger, more open, more abstract and unique experience. Not afraid to try new things and be bold with design and artstyle.

But I preferred the Oceanside spider house more - it was dark, daunting, filled with far more puzzles and challenging obstacles to overcome. Like someone above said, it was very reminiscent of Resident Evil in a way. I loved the claustrophobic, closed-off nature and the general deep, dark and haunting feeling of being in inside essentially an old haunted house.
It generally just had far more content, with better rewards, being able to talk to the Stallchildren. And dat library room. <3
It seemed to function as the counterpart to the Woodfall version - while the other was a wild, untamed and open venue, this one was a closed, dark and morbid place that had been lived in by people.

Both are great, but I prefer the Oceanside version more.
