What is the best way to play OOT

I am currently playing MM and I think the next zelda I will play is WW but after that I think I will play SS or OOT? If I were to play OOT what would be the best consol to play it on? 3ds GC, VC/WII, N64

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

I used to play on the NGC as a kid, but now I'm replaying it on the 3DS. I have to say it is much better. The graphics are as good as the Wii graphics and it looks great. In the Water Temple you can equip the iron boots to X, I, Y, or II so you don't need to pause to change boots every time. It makes it a lot easier and the temple more enjoyable as a whole. I'd definitely suggest playing it on the 3DS if you have it, or the VC because it probably won't be as expensive as the NGC or N64 version.

If you have an N64, play it on the N64!!! Nothing beats the original!

Upsidedown, that's the best way to play.

I have only the N64 version, why? I see no point in playing any remakes of the game.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

I'd rather play the original version. The 3ds version changed the graphics too much, in some parts the original artstyle is not the same at all. That's especially true for the characters.

Look at this pic for example : Avertissement de redirection

Link just doesn't look like oot's link anymore. That's basphemous.

Then of course there's the controls issue. I found it harder to play it on the 3ds. You also have to know you move the camera by litteraly moving your 3ds ! Not very convenient for those who want to play relaxed.

The menu screen is also changed, and obviously the buttons displayed on the game screen are not the same as before. Very bad choice for those who preferred the original presentation.

If the blurry graphics really bother you in the original, the GC remake is also good. It just makes them less blurry, don't completely changes the artstyle like the 3ds does.

You don't need to use the camera/gyro controls. You can use the little analog (?) stick.

It's nearly the same thing. Plus, you can equip boots to I, II, X, or Y so that during the water temple you don't need to constantly pause.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

I have it for 3DS, Wii VC, GC, and N64, I would play it on the 3DS. It has many improvements, and you can take it with you. The graphics are much improved, and colors are much more vivid.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

The original N64 cartridge has the chanting in the Fire Temple (which makes it a million times better) and the cooler Gerudo symbol. These don't make that much of a difference, but they're still nice touches.

So if you can get a hold of the original, go with it.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

If it's your first time, you have to experience it on the N64. That's my favorite console to play it on. :3 The original is incredible.

If it's not your first time playing, probably the 3DS or GC.

You can change that. It's in options when you press start, I believe.

I liked the fact that you got to organize your items however you want. It obviously can't be the same as the N64/GC version was, it's a completely different kind of system. I think it's nice they changed it.

Yeah, the gyro controls can be turned off. Let's not forget that the 3DS version has boss rush and Master Quest to offer.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

For the first-time experience, I have to say the original, N64 version.
Why? Because the gameplay is optimized for the N64 controller. Granted, the 3DS version is very nice to look at and quite the beauty to play, but playing the ocarina, which is a central part of the gaming experience, feels so much better in the original than in any conversion or remake. Koji Kondo made the A- and C-buttons seem like they were designed for the sole purpose of playing just those notes!
They botched that part of the 3DS version, for sure.
The Z-targeting feels better, too, because it feels kind of like pulling the trigger on a gun - There's more stability in that feeling than there is in L-targeting.

Switching back and forth between iron boots and regular boots may be tedious, but trust me, it's worth the effort!

You can always play the 3DS version later.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

OMG I loved that chanting music
Why did the people have to ruin it by taking it out of the song. It was just so epic.
Lucky for me, I have the version with the chanting.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

I've played Ocarina on every system that the game has ever been released for, even Pj 64. I place my vote for the 3DS. Let's face it. Portable technology is taking over. And the 3DS controls are much more accurate!

On the N64 in one sitting.

Turn off your mobile, shut down your computer, close your curtains and get a crate of coke and make enough sandwiches to keep you going for around 5 days.

You WILL lose friends, but hey, you'll have experienced Zelda in the best possible way.

Re: What is the best way to play OOT

The best play would probably be the v1 N64 cartridge. Back when there was red Ganon blood and crescent moon Gerudo symbols. The best buy would probably be the 3DS version. It's way more convenient as you can play on the go. I've played on every console so far save the Wii's VC and I have to say I've probably clocked in the most hours on the 3DS version simply because I can play it outside the house.

The 3DS version because of the updated graphics, Master Quest mode, ore item slots, and being able to switch boots on the fly.

N64, without a doubt, though I have respect for the Gamecube version. Though I've never played the 3DS version, I've always heard/seen that it's quite awesome.
