Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

I never got far in any of them, but now that I got them for free on my 3DS I plan on giving them another go once college starts again.

I find playing older games to be refreshing.

Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

I'm a bit racist when it comes to games.

And when I say racist, I mean graphicist.

It's very difficult for me to get into games that don't appeal to me visually (it's also difficult for me to get into games that don't have very much of a solid story), so to say the least, I haven't really played either of them.

I played LoZ until I got to the first dungeon, and AoL for about five minutes. I haven't gone back since.

Though my pride may make me change my mind eventually, seeing as I'd eventually like to be able to say one day that I've beaten every Zelda game known to man.

I love the exploring you have to do, the cryptic clues you have to solve in order to advance (even though they sometimes frustrated me to no end) and, well, the music.

Will be kind of hard considering Mystical Seed of Courage is known to man.

I revise my previous statement, Zelda 2 is way harder than the original!

How long did it take you to figure that out? Zelda 2 is evil incarnate... except the final boss that's a cake walk. (Yes I never got far in it, but even I know that secret of the crouch and stab technique)

Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

I beat LOZ 2 days ago on my 3ds. It was the most fun I've had with a zelda game for a long time. It is considerably harder then the modern games because there are no guidelines. You have to stick to it and hold on to any piece of advice you get. I also beat AOL about 2 months ago on collectors edition. That was also fun and had the best combat system of any zelda game in my opinion. To me it wasn't as hard as the original.

Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

The old games are hard... I don't mind some challenge but it stops being fun when all I do is die all the time. With the old Zeldas I've accepted my inability to beat them on my own and have turned to guides. And still I die, a lot. But not all the time.

I have the Collector's Edition, but I've never got very far in the games. I got LoZ and AoL on my 3DS last week, and knowing my previous "success", I sought for help from a let's play from the start. It started by showing where to get more hearts at the beginning, which has helped me loads. I still die, but not quite as fast. I also have a map, that helps too. I check the map to find the dungeons, and turn back to the let's play if I get stuck. I always try the dungeons myself first. And actually, playing with a let's play kinda feels like sharing the game with someone, you know? Gaming is a social thing. (That sounds so sad... sure I'd like to play with an actual person sitting next to me and helping me, but I don't know Zelda fans.)

I have pretty low patience, and what am I supposed to do, bomb every wall and burn every bush to find the secrets? Nnno, not going to work. I want to finish these games someday, and this way I actually might, or get close at least. Except AoL, I don't think any tips or guides can help me there. It's horribly difficult, and I'm terrible at it.

I understand what you mean, but just give both a try, it'll be worth it.

I am currently playing Adventures of Link, and man it is difficult.

I didn't read through all the posts, but I believe some people said buy a
3DS, both games are on it

Be aware, THEY ARE DIFFICULT, your mind will explode if you play them for too long

Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

I played LOZ and AOL on the NES. I liked the nonlinearity of it and finding all the stuff. It took a long time but I did beat the first quest in LOZ. I attempted the second quest but gave up. I wish I still had this game so I could try it again. I never beat AOL. I couldn't get past that big bridge or whatever before the great palace. If I read a walkthrough, I could probably beat it.

In my day we didn't have games hold our hands as we played. You have to get out there and explore the world, and try a lot of different things. There are hints scattered here and there, but you have to search for them too. Zelda used to be about wide open exploration, but eventually they lost it.

You just have to try to understand old school gaming.

Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

It might not be entirely focused on exploring any more but exploration still is a large part of the series. Most games have dozens of secret caves that can only be found by bombing or digging in certain spots.

Re: How can you play LOZ or AOL?

They don't need a map, and they aren't direction-less. You just need to explore, and get past the fact that many games nowadays have hand-holding in-game mechanics in place for casual game players who couldn't find their own @$$es if needed.

Use a wak through to find all the temples.

Second does anyone enjoy playing these games with a GC controller?
These games need to be played with a NES controller to really enjoy it.
I personally don't like using the GC controller for them. It was great for OoT and MM, but not the NES titles. BTW, I've been playing Zelda 1 and 2 on my 3DS the last couple days, and the controls feel great! I especially like how I can play them while doing other stuff now. (I've beat Zelda 1, and I have placed 2 crystals in AoL)

I think he just means the main 15. Probably not the spin offs. Or at least that's what I want to do. I'm getting pretty close actually, the only ones I haven't beat are AoL, OoX, MC, FS, and FSA.
