Ocarina of Time vs Majora's Mask: Which is better?

I thought both games are fantastic but I will always like OoT more. One thing that I will give MM over OoT is the relationships with every character. OoT had a lot of deep relationships with a lot of characters, but especially on the journey to collect all of the masks, MM had you meet and get to know the history of almost every character! As the person above said, the horror factor of MM didn't really come in until Ikana, until I considered the possibility that there was a soul in almost every mask. Creepy. However, the "shadows on the ceiling" and the SHADOW TEMPLE were beyond creepy!

They are both good games in their own different ways. It would be hard to compare the two on their similarities and the only one they really share is the controls. I thoroughly enjoyed both games and still play them both I believe I have beat them both over 20 times and I still cant put them down. When I feel like playing and epic story I play Ocarina of time and when I want to play something with a darker tone i play majoras mask.

They're both great games, but there is just something about Majora's Mask that makes it my all time favorite video game. Both games are in my top list of favorite video games, but I just have to pick Majora's Mask as my favorite. It's absolutely amazing.

All opinions are relative, so neither is best since they are both great games.

Ocarina of Time had great characters, storyline, and adventure.

Majora's Mask had depth, adventure, and ominous-ness.

OOT's dark moments far outshine that of MM. The Forest Temple was darker than any MM moment, period. MM had more of a zaney, ugly and weird feel to it.The temples were mostly bland, and the atmosphere just wasnt there. The only area that kind of struck me as dark was Ikana. The three day thing may be new, but it wasnt a good idea. Its annoying to constantly lose your items and have to start over. I also couldnt stand the stray fairy thing. That collect-a-thon was on Rareware levels right there. I flat out hated that crap.

If we're going to talk about what the game brought new to the table, the 3 day thing is not enough to compare to the 3d redesign of the zelda series as a whole. Majora's Mask is far, far more derivative than it is innovative.

I'm sorry, but I had to point out the "dark" thing. Ocarina of Time did have dark moments such as when the Deku Tree died, that soldier died, the Kokiri don't remember you at all as an adult, the Zora's Domain has been frozen, etc. But there's no doubt in my mind that Majora's Mask reigned supreme with the darker storyline and moments. There's far too many for me to name, so I'll end it there.

With that being said, Majora's Mask is my favorite of the two.

Ocarina of Time is infinately better that Majora's Mask. Ocarina of Time is the best game in the world, because of its gameplay, graphics, music, story, and everything. I really hated Majora's Mask just because of that stupid time mechanic. The time mechanic ruined everything for me. I did watch a video walkthrough of it though and it does look like it's a very unique and fun game, just not my style.

^ You do know that you're blinded by your love of Ocarina of Time because Ocarina of Time isn't the best in the graphics department.

As for me, I see that I voted for Majora's when this thread was first made, but the more I play Ocarina, the more I appreciate how masterful it is and second guess my vote in this poll. When comparing two games in the series and deciding which one I like better, there's no tougher of a decision for me than OoT vs MM. Ocarina is a more well rounded experience with strong replay value, and it's the definition of a classic, while Majora's is a more deep experience that makes you feel like you're part of the world. It's so tough to choose. I'm sticking with Majora's Mask because when I'm in the mood for the game, I can not think of a game that gets me more engaged. But it can really go either way at any time.

I just want to say something about why I don't feel oot is as great as other people say.

Now, oot has almost no flaws. everything from its gameplay, music, story, etc. is really good, but nothing more than that. Few things go above and beyond (at least by todays standards) and nothing really wowed me about it. You might say that the fact that it was the first 3d zelda gave it wow, but in reality my first 3d zelda was wind waker. Should the fact that oot was released first effect how much I enjoy it when I play it, even though I wasn't there when it was released?

What "wowed" me was the freedom and non-linearity that OoT had. That's pretty much the biggest reason why OoT is my favorite Zelda game, not because it's my first game or just plain old nostalgia.

Oot is waaaay better than MM. MM had a tiny world compared to oot, only four dungeons, and a very simple plot line. Oot greatly surpasses MM in almost every way. And they never even say what exactly Majora is

OoT for me. I just really enjoyed the seemingly umlimited gameplay and world. It's one of the few games I can spend all day playing without realizing the day has gone by.

I prefer Ocarnia of Time myself. I guess it might be due to how much fun I had with the game when I was a child. Also I have a lot more fond memories of that game in comparison to Majora's Mask.

I'm the same as "tavoxman122", I grew up playing Ocarina and got Majora's Mask because my dad didn't like being a Deku ( yes he really did only play it for 5 mins) so he said me and my sister could have it. The farthest we got was to the Ikana Valley and thats with skipping the second and third bosses (getting the dungeon items and moving on xD we were 7+9 at the time) we didn't complete it till about five years ago but I love it more than Ocarina because of the character depth. I would say that OoT is a better Adventure Game but I much prefered MM's story and for me story is the most important aspect of the game. The Anju and Kafei quest was heartwrenching, and the scene between Romani and Cremia on the last day was so sad!

i'm sorry but saying wich game is 'better' would be just stupid. because they're both great. The Zelda series has no bad game (except for the CD-I ones but you know that). Wich one you prefer... that's different... i'll say Majora's Mask between those two. To me, MM is just perfect. in every sense.

Which means OoT isn't perfect for you. Which means MM would be better since that's perfect. Therefore, asking which is better isn't stupid.

Honestly, even if I held story as the most important aspect of a game (afaic, it's not even the most important production value), I'd still call MM the weakest Zelda in terms of plot; it's "depth" proved itself to be very superficial, if not outright false, when I realized how unconnected the subplots all were despite supposedly being so reliant on the main story.

OOT took less than an hour to take you to the first dungeon (heck, barely 20 minutes if you know what to do). You'd have to abuse a time skip in MM to finish the opening act in that time.

I think that there equal because majoras mask had a better side quest part but ocarina of time had the better story line dont get me wrong i loved getting all the mask and transforming into a (deku,goron,zora and fierce deity link ) for the first time gets you really excited =) but then ocarina had the fun part of killing epic bosses and going through temples and you had more a experience of a zelda game

I alwase thought that ocarina of time was better.
