Ther is NO way I could choose one or the other.

The best game gor consoles ever (EVER) was OoT for me. So nominally, that is what I picked. I liked the ability to get the Goron Tunic and wear it while beating the forest dungeon. Kinda fun, that was.

They are both Awsome games. Oot had a good storry line to it, as to MM timed you and forced you to get to know every one besides the hero, the vilen, and the side kick.
I love both with equal amout and fairness.
So I say both.

In my personal preference Ocarina of time. But each game is amazing in its own way. Ocarina of time revolutionized gaming, it set a new bar, perfection. Majora's Mask was much deeper, it felt like you were getting attached to the characters. so they were both the best games of the generation but I like ocarina of time better.

OoT all the way. I started playing MM, and finished the very begining. I'll admit, the idea of all the different maks was just about as cool as the Ocarina idea. However, that was the only thing that I thought the game had. I just hated being timed! That took all of the enjoyment out of the game, even if you would rewind by playing the SoT backwards. It just took the feeling of relaxation and enjoyment out of the game.

I'd have to say Majora's Mask.

I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!! IN 2003, I'D PLAY THAT GAME LIKE IT'S NO TOMORROW!!

I especially loved the jugglers in East Clock Town.
Ocarina of Time was an awesome game aswell, in fact if I was to review them both, I'd give them each a 10/10.

But, if I needed to choose between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask or else I would die, I'd say Majora's Mask.

Well, I like them both equally. They are both just so different that I can't really compare them very well. I do like Tatl better than Navi, and I like how Majora's Mask was darker and had Masks...I liked them a lot.

But the story just isn't as epic as OoT.

So I'm staying neutral.

That simply is not fair. I personally think Zelda: Ocarina of time. reasons that I will not get into because of the amount of reasons. but pinning those two against each other. they are one in the same. Majora's Mask is the sequel to Ocarina of Time. so it basically is Ocarina of Time. I think majora's mask was ok but it's more of the part of Ocarina of Time I didn't want to play. just find that damned fairy and get the hell out of those woods.

That is completely untrue and unfair to Majora's Mask. The game is substantially and radically different in terms of storyline, game mechanics, plot, setting, style, and tone. The only thing these two games have in common is 1. the game engine and 2. the same Link. Everything else is completely different and deserves comparison.


That being said, I find it difficult to compare the two because they are such polar opposites. Each one fulfills its "duty" that is being the game it was meant to be. I personally prefer the story woven in MM, but does that make the game better? Not sure, we need a better definition of "better."

I think it would in my opinion because it starts right after Ocarina of time. so the would be a sequel. I mean the beginning is about link of OoT going into the lost woods in search of Navi. I dunno why I wish I knew. when skull boy comes and takes random stuff. he gets to termina and notices everyone looks like there from OoT (hylians) figuring out that he is in a different dimension or something of that sort... and he never really found Navi now did he? that disappointing. anyways I think that covers it.

I wasn't contending it was the sequel, I was pointing out that just because it is a sequel, both games are not automatically the same thing. That does not apply for any game, movie, book, or anything else with a sequel. Sequels are fundamentally different in general, and especially in this instance for the reasons cited above. The fact that one follows the other in the timeline does not make them the same game.

I liked both games; Granted I never beat Ocarina of Time, and Beat It's sequel. Majora's Mask was a little more creative with the time limit, the Whole Mask collecting, and Transforming masks. Plus the Final Boss was unique. We never saw anything like Majora's Mask before but we've seen Ganon/Ganondorf before.
Point I'm trying to make here Is that both games are equally the same and great. Both easily the greatest Zelda games of all time

I understand what your saying, but what im saying that a sequel is exactly that. it took place after OoT in the same time line. and i prequel is right before OoT in the time line. I'm not saying there exactly the same in story and mechanics. it's was very different to me. MM was a great game! but to place in a conflict against OoT is unnecessarily. i think it would be fitted to ask which is better "Ocarina of Time time line" or "Twilight Princess time line". which would have a massive difference in what to argue about granted there is too much in this thread.

Sure, but you cannot say they are the same game because it denatures the unique qualities of each. Even if it is the sequel, MM can still be compared to its predecessor in terms of those unique qualities. I'm sure if you wanted to you could start a thread discussing the differences in OoT and TP. This thread, however, is for discussion of the two N64 games.

well i always hope for bettering a game series through better quality and better experiences. I just didn't like majora's mask like i did Ocarina of time. it's the only zelda game i gave up on for like four months. than beat on a later date.

I cant really say because i have only played OoT... but From what i have heard OOT is WAY better... the Thing about the masks sounds cool ... But i like how you can Do what ever You whant Without worring about hte time limit... Any time limit game makes me nervous for some reason but,I REally whant to play it hopefully my parents someday will get me the Collecters Addition... HOpefully ^_^

You heard wrong. MM actually gets you interested in the characters. OoT is really boring. But thats just my opinion.

personally i love both because oot and mm were both challenging and fun
