Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

If you are having trouble with any of the Zelda games for the NES, SNES or N64 namely The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, or Majora's Mask, you can post your questions here.

Be sure to check the guides on our main site first, however, as they may contain the answers you are looking for. The previous version of the thread can be found here.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

Great! I have a question about ALttP.... two actually...
What I'd like to know, is how you would dash through bomb-able walls using only the Pegasus Boots. Yes, I do press 'A'....
I even restarted the game, left all the walls for what they were, grabbed the boots and tried on the walls I already bombed before in my earlier playthoughs.

I have beaten the game by myself when it was released in Europe (PAL) back in the days. I beat the game with everything you could possibly get (hearts, bottles, upgraded equipment...) at least ten times, but I could NEVER get this to work???

Is it something that was only in the Japanese version or what? Like the Famicom Pols Voice?
------------------------------------------
My second question:
How do you grab the middle and the right pots in the last dungeon in ALttP, you know, Ganon's Tower? I mean the ones in the dead-end room to the lower left of the long rectangular room with the torches, the Wallmaster, the Mummy and the bouncing Spiked Trap. The one with three doors (top, bottom and lower left) and the possibility to drop down from a higher level.

The puzzle I mean is in that small room, with the three pots, some (moving) blocks and the rotating fire thing in the centre... I only managed to grab the top left one.
How do you get the remaining two pots?

If it's not clear, I might draw a map or something.

Both are quite useless questions, as you really don't need the solutions to grab everything and beat the game, but I still wonder how to do it?
The walls can be blasted to pieces with bombs, no problem there.
The pots will contain a heart or a rupee at most, so....

Thanks in advance...

Sorry for not responding, I've been tied up recently. For destroying bombable walls with your pegasus boots, as far as I can tell, it can't be done. I just tried it on two different bombable walls and it didn't work. For those pots (or skulls in the GBA version), it's simple. Your sword should be able to destroy pots, skulls, etc, if you've upgraded it. So what you need to do is: do a spin attack when standing in the corner of a space diagonal from it. Basically get as close as possible to the pot (or skull), and do a spin attack. This should destroy it, allowing you to collect the prize (magic refill and a heart for me). I hope this helps!

Yes it can, but only on certain ones (usually ones that have the door-ish frame).

They are skulls in the SNES version, too. Just only in Dark World.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

Thanks so far, I have tried it out yet, but it sounds good. Although I'm not sure you can grab the magic container and the hearts with your sword in the old SNES version....

I have another question:
How do you let butterflies sit on the dekusticks in OoT (maybe MM too)?
I spend hours chasing those things, standing still, crouching.... playing songs...

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

Hey this is mainly a question rather than i need help and i didnt see the need for a thread about it as its just a basic question.

Was Zelda in MM?
I only played about halfway through and wondered if she would come into the story at some point.

The only part she is in was the beginning, where she told Link how to play the Song of Time again.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

Ok so i decided to either start MM again or just keep playing where i left off.
Can anyone tell me if what temple i finished in? I know your not psychic but i all i remember is that i died on the mini boss, and he was like the grim reaper with birds. Any techniques to help kill him would be helpfull.

I think i spent most of my time doing the sidequests instead of the actual temples. Which was pretty fun imo. I really like collecting the masks and hope to get the whole collection. Is there a topic or site that would have the full list of masks?

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

From the sound of that miniboss, you were last in the Stone Tower Temple, which is in Ikana Valley, in eastern Termina. Shoot him with a light arrow to get rid of his veil of bats, then you can attack his weak point. If you run out of arrows or magic, you can get more by killing his bats, he spawns them infinitely.

As for a list of masks, here's one.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

You get the Giant's Wallet by completing the Great Bay Skulltula House. It's on the Great Bay shore. I think you have to do it before the end of day 2. You might not be able to get in until day 2 begins, I can't quite remember.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

Thankyou. Any help for Sakrons hideout. Im waiting for Kafeir and i havent done this part before. I know i should stand behind the rocks or i will be seen.

Oh and while i was waiting at the laundry pool for the mailman, i saw some red rupees behind the grate thing in the water. How do i get these?

I know there is a conveyor belt in this hideout, should i use the reverse time song to slow it down?

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

I've never actually noticed those rupees before, so I don't know how to get them.

From the time stamp, it looks like you've probably already done Sakon's hideout, but just in case: for the Kafei parts, yellow buttons make the conveyor belt go slower, red ones make it go faster. When playing as Link, you just have to kill Deku Babas and Wolfos, so you shouldn't have any trouble there. I don't think the inverted song of time slows the conveyor belt.

They will be in the middle of the pool on the night of the second day. Before that they will not have gotten there yet and after that they have moved past it.

You must complete tasks you did not completely finish on the last iteration of days. So if you work on the hideout and fail, yes you must go back to day one and start anew. This applies to temples as well.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

Okay, so i got all 30 spiders in the bay skulltah house and all i got in the chest was a regular heart. I presume i got it already, But i can still only hold 200 rupees.

Im so confused.

Oh and as i type im in the stone tower. i have the boss key after finally defeating bird man. Now i am totally stuck. i pressed the switch next to the Death armos and hookshot the the chest, but the door is locked and i have no idea where the key is. I was hoping to get a quick answer as im playing right now.

Also, how to kill the death armos would be helpfull. AAs i shoot them with a light arrow, but all they do is go upside down.

If you get all 30 on the first day and go back to the entrance, a guy will give you the Giant Wallet.

After he goes upside down, go underneath him, then quickly run away. He will ram the ground and die.

Re: Official NES/SNES/N64 Zelda Help Thread

So I just died in the Great Palace in Adventure of Link. I last saved before completing the fourth, fifth and sixth palaces (in 4 and 5, I just went through and killed the boss. I saved them so I could get a 1-up when I place the crystal.) and collecting all the 1-ups.

So should I save, limiting myself to three lives, or should I reset and do the fourth, fifth and sixth palaces again, so I can have a few lives to reattempt the Great Palace ?

Also, is there any way to save without getting a game over, so I can maybe collect those lives, then save so I can reset without having to redo all that stuff? I remember in the first Zelda you could push up and A or something on the second controller to save whenever, and I was thinking there might be something like that in this. (though I would be surprised if it let me keep my extra lives.)

Thankyou for that. I had been warping out of the temple thinking the wallet had to be in the chest.

I finished that temple and thankyou but i simply just ran for it.

I want to know what item i am missing. There is a spot under the magic beans that i dont have. What is it? MM
