Majora's Mask curses

In each area of Majora's Mask there is some kind of curse. The swamp has it's poison, snow head has a freeze, zora has murky waters, and inka has zombies(well something like that)

What causes these curses? Who causes these curses?
It's just something I don't understand. Is there a logic to this, or something like this is not supposed to have logic?

Re: Majora's Mask curses

Most detail in regard to this is provided in the Southern Swamp and Ikana Canyon areas. In the Canyon, the curse was, according to the composer Sharp;
Quote:
We dead should not be lingering here in this land. It was all a trick of the masked one who had upset things.
Apparently, the curse took effect when somebody 'thrust open the doors of stone tower'.

Conversely, the Southern Swamp appears to be cursed simply because the swamp lost it's guardian diety, and had it replaced by Odolwa. The Monkey and the Deku Princess desribe that the swamp became poisionous because the temple had become a monsters lair.
Quote:
I was trying to find out about the poison in the swamp, so I went to Woodfall Temple above the waterfall. But the temple had become a monster's lair, and the princess was captured by the monster...
Obviously having the giants sealed behind masks caused their power to be used for ill, or at least their guardianship lost. Majora's Mask cursed the Giants to be imprisioned within masks.

That's the jist of it.

Re: Majora's Mask curses

Yeah, basically what they said. With the giants gone curses came down. Once the giants return, those of the curse lift. But that doesn't explain the water, it stays like that even when the boss is killed.

Re: Majora's Mask curses

Snowhead's curse confused me a bit. Why was that big goron causing the high winds that prevented you from getting to the temple?

Re: Majora's Mask curses

I think its Majora's Mask who put the curse on them and the bosses he created like Odolwa, Goht, Gyorg, and Twinmold.

"I think its Majora's Mask who put the curse on them and the bosses he created like Odolwa, Goht, Gyorg, and Twinmold".Wrote TriforceLegacy.
That is true but I must add to that, the cursed giants didn't make the curses happen in Majora's Mask, it was the skull kid that did it, he cursed the giants and cursed the places so that once the curse on the giants have been lifted, the place that has been cursed goes back to normal. That's my opinion.

Re: Majora's Mask curses

^Skull Kid was a puppet for Majora's Mask, and therefore the power of the Mask is responsible for the fate of the giants, and the curses.

Wether the curses are caused by Majora's Mask itself or the removal of the Giants is debateable, but it seems that once the giants are freed from the Masks the areas return to normal. That being said, according to the sharp quote, the 'masked one' was responsible for the curse in Ikana directly.

Then it must just be a mistake in the game's mechanics (like Zora's Domain remaining frozen after OoT's Water Temple), because the Fisherman's Jumping Game opens after Gyorg is defeated. "The seas are back to normal," says the fisherman.

Re: Majora's Mask curses

The reason of all the curses was that the Majora's Mask still on skullkid's face went and cursed the sacred places of those four corners of the world. MM did it. Not the butler. So kill the boss in the temple that is the local source of the curse and you redeem the area. Simple as that.
