Majora's Mask Advice?

I FINALLY got my mitts on a copy of Majora's Mask at long last, and I am about to attempt it for the first time (I know, I know... I'm about 10 years behind...). Does anyone have any good advice for a Majora virgin?

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Just 1, play the Song of Time backwards to be able to slow down time, that way you can get a lot more done within those 3 days, besides that none really, you should be able to figure out everything else on your own, til either great bay temple or stone tower temple

excellent advice although u can just talk to the scarecrow in the curiosity shop to find that out. My tip is that in the three days many small events happen to obtain masks and you'll need to reset time to do all of them. the hard part is to find and complete all of them.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

1)Be sure to collect all 24 masks. It's a pain in arse but well worth the effort.
2)Transformation masks are your friends.
3)When doing the sidequests, check your bomber's notebook if you forget what you should be doing.

Get the bunny hood as soon as you possibly can in the game.

Bomber's Notebook. Don't leave Clocktown without it.

Seriously, it's the best item you find in the game.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Yeah to get the notebook everyone's talking about you need to follow the plot until you are human again, then play hide/seek with the bombers again.
Some replenishable items, like bombs (which you buy in this game rather than get in a dungeon), arrows, rupees, and temporary sidequest items, will totally disappear everytime you go back in time. However, treasure chests you opened that had rupees in them will be unopened again once you time-travel. And there's a time-transcending banker that can hold them for you.
Heart containers, swords, shields, masks, the bow, bottles, and other important items will not be dropped when you time-travel.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Do the Romani Ranch side-quest. Chateau Romani can be very useful.

Try to obtain all the fairies en every dungeon the first time you visit them

Obtain all the empty bottles you can (the Zoras will apreciate that)

Carry red potion and the lens of truth to Ikana

Do not battle Takkuri (Is annoying when you loose)

Or you can just remember the #'s they told you when you were a Deku, go to the kid you have to give the numbers to and walk into the tunnel and then walk back out, the leader of the Bombers runs up to you and gives you the handbook then

I might as well point out the masks which I thought was helpful, besides the transforming ones.

1. the blast mask, with it you wont need normal bombs again, just remember to hold your shield up before setting it off.

2. bunny mask, it cuts your traveling time in half if you like staying as normal Link.

3. stone mask, just in case you want almost all enemies ignore you as you ignore them.

4. great fairy mask, in case you like the rewards you get for collecting them.

thats it really all the masks that I thought was helpful. oh and the cow mask(Romania mask i believe its name is? maybe not) in case you like getting infinite magic before going back into time again.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Pay attention to text boxes. Deep attention.

Multi-tasking is your friend, but you can also take it slow in doing one level per cycle, and like others have said, play the Song of Time backwards to slow time down.

Bunny Hood.

I would fight Majora without the FD Mask at first, just so you can actually appreciate the powerful item when you do get it. I didn't do this, and regret it.

Don't bother with red potions. Seriously, don't when you can get fairies. Only use potions for magic, (green) and maybe Blue potions if you want to restore magic and health in one go.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Don't try to rush the game, try to truly experience it.
During my first or second time playing through, I used to follow the NPCs to see what they did during the day/night.

There's a secret conversation with Anju and her mother. This just lets you know more about Anju's situation and her personality.

BTW the bomb mask hurts you when you use it, unless if you shield it(hint, if you get tired of running out of bombs)

Equip your inventory with fairies and green potions before facing a boss.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

When using owl statues, no matter how pissed off you get (for me, the boss in Great Bay Coast), always remember not to turn your console off in frustration. ALWAYS GO BACK TO THE OWL STATUE!!! even if you make no progress whatsoever since your last save. You don't wanna start again at the dawn of the first day...

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Always collect all the Stray Fairies in the dungeons. The rewards are more often than not worth it, and many of the fairies are found as you progress through the temple anyway so you will be saving yourself a long and tedious re-visit later on.

Re: Majora's Mask Advice?

Some times just take on or two entire cycles of three days to explore and have fun. It's very fun after you get the game through the first time when you have all the masks and can get anywhere you want. This is definitely worth it.
