Ocarina of Time: Forest Temple Origins?
We all know what the Forest Temple is: it's the first temple you beat as an adult, located in the sacred meadow all the way in the back of the lost woods. How did the temple get there, though? What was its original purpose? I remember theorizing at first that the temple was simply a place used to talk to the sages or forest spirits. Something like a church. However, after hours of exploring it I realized it seemed much more like a mansion than a castle or temple.
What do you people think the Forest Temple's origins are?

This is said no where in the game. They just happen to inhabit it. What's your source?

My source is that there were portraits of them inside the temple...?

Re: Ocarina of Time: Forest Temple Origins?
it has no origin because this is just a video game. meant to put the player through a certain set of trials, a standard dungeon nothing more.
but if you want to have fun with it i guess the temple could have been like an ancient temple of time? hmm who knows?

Google'd but no results. Also, portraits don't really mean anything. They were haunted empty frames.
I don't think it would be an ancient temple of time or anything huge/relevant and I do agree that it's just a dungeon. Thinking about it is fun, though.

Re: Ocarina of Time: Forest Temple Origins?
Well, as everyone said, it's simply a dungeon. But if you'd like to get theoretical, it is a temple, of course. Remember as Rauru had said, that the sages needed to be awakened, due to the fact that they could not hear the calls from the Chamber of Sages. So possibly, each of the sages built the temples along Hyrule that best situated their persona long ago. So maybe (I'm not saying it's particularly Saria) the Forest Sage had built it there?

Re: Ocarina of Time: Forest Temple Origins?
I think it's a temple designed by a very artistic architect(s). Probably an artist who admired the abstract beauty of nature, and designed the temple as a work of art dedicated to the forest. This person(or persons) loved to spend his/her/their time outdoors, and probably spent alot of time alone.
Perhaps the paintings were done by the artist, and then brought to life by Ganondorf... or perhaps they were replaced by the Poe Sisters. |

Re: Ocarina of Time: Forest Temple Origins?
well it is possible that each of the ancient sages built a temple near where they resided the most in order to talk with the other sages in the other temples and ultimatley, talk to rauru in the chamber of sages. However after Ganondorf laid his hands on the sacred triforce, he corrupted those temples and turned them into places filled with evil and dangerous monsters so that, the sages couldn't unite or contact each other in anyway.

Re: Ocarina of Time: Forest Temple Origins?
I think it was supposed to be a place for the Kokiri to worship/speak to the forest spirits. Just as the Fire Temple was a place for the Gorons to worship fire spirits and so on and so on. The Shadow Temple is different though. It wasn't really a place of worship, but more of a place of containment for the evils Hyrule. So with the exception of the Shadow Temple, I think the origins of all the temples were for worship.
