I knew about the second ending from the beginning to be fair, it only appears when you don't have all masks as to prevent spoilers.
Never saw it myself as i had all masks before going to the moon.

The full ending is received only after completing all of the sidequests. Otherwise the ending will only show the mask you have not gotten rotating on a black back round instead of the person that you have helped having a happy ending. That is the only difference you have in the ending and how to get them.
