Majora's Mask: hidden conversations, events and other secrets.

Majora's Mask is probably the Zelda game with the most replay value and much of this is due to how rich the world is and how many secrets, big and small, there are to discover. This topic is dedicated to those secrets in Majora's Mask. Have you ever discovered a neat detail in game, an unknown conversation, some secret event or gotten an interesting reaction from a specific character because you wore a certain mask? Post about it here! Let us make this a topic that will encourage even people who have beaten Majora's Mask 100% to replay it again, to experience all of what the game has to offer.

I'll go first, using the excellent video posted by the YouTube user Myriadis for illustration. Some of these are no doubt well known, others might be new to a lot of users.



Secrets

1: On the dawn of the first day when you see Kafei walk to the mail box, equip the Blast Mask and blow up near Kafei to see an interesting reaction.

2: When you're chasing the bomber kids in East Clock Town, they will sometimes hide under the crates.

3: You can see a door behind the Banker, to the right of the vault.

4: You can kill Sakon during the midnight robbery on the first day using a number of different items (just blow up the bomb bag he carries to wipe him out).

5: On the last day, enter the Swordsman's School during the last six hours to find him seemingly missing. Slash the wall at the end of the room to reveal a secret room where the Swordsman is hiding, curled up and absolutely terrified.

6: Do the Cremia & Romani quest for a second time and save Cremia's milk bottles. You just might get a nice, long hug for your efforts.


Hidden conversations:

1: First Day, 12 a.m. – Anju will try to serve her grandmother some food, but she refuses to eat. Smart move, considering the condition of the kitchen.

2: Show Anju's mom the Kafei Mask for an angry reaction.

3: Whole Third Day: If you've not spoken to the soldiers for the first two days, the soldier you talk to will now ask you whether the Carnival has been cancelled or not.

4: After having completed the Cremia & Romani quest, talk to Cremia on the last day to find out she realizes not even Romani Ranch will be safe from the moon. Then, early at night, visit the barn to see a very cute and sad conversation between Cremia and Romani. They leave the barn at 8 p.m, saying goodnight.

5: Second Day, 9.30 p.m – If you've gotten your Stock Pot Inn room, listen by the worn down wall to overhear a conversation between Anju and her mother about Kafei.

I discovered the Sakon one myself by accident. It took me a while to figure out that I had just killed an NPC for the first time ever. (Didn't have games where you could yet)

As for the Cremia hug, I could help laugh. Poor Link. XD She pretty much shoves his face right into her chest. XD He was just standing there all "WTF" while she was doing it. XD

I'm glad you make this thread, I've found a few significant hidden details that I've never seen anyone mention before which I'll post when I have time. The shear amount of hidden details in MM really boggles my mind, I've never been able to work out how they crammed so much stuff into the game in such a short period of time.

Anyway I'll post a couple of scenes discovered by others before me right now:

a) Wear the captain's mask while battling Igos Du Ikana and a hidden (slightly humerous) cutscene will play.

b) When Cremia offers you the wagon ride, CHOSE NOT TO TAKE IT and let her ride off. Once she's gone, talk to Romani with and without wearing a mask (any mask), you will recieve very interesting information about her sister.

See, it's all these little things that make MM such a fantastic Zelda game. All these little details just make it oh-so superior to OoT. But that's not what this topic is about, so I'll leave it at that.

Ah! That is soooo depressing! I really wanna see what "cute and sad" conversation between the sisters. Is that on the Final Day?

I killed Sakon by mistake, I didn't know it was possible! That was so unlike LoZ, haha.

It's been quite some time since I last played MM, so I already knew many secrets and hidden things you mentioned, but I forgot about them, and I'm glad you reminded me of them I want to see what other secrets people find.

It also shows what happens when you use the Bremen Mask against the servants of the Ikana King. Very cool.


Here's some more neat stuff:

1: Talk to the Curiosity Shop Man wearing the Zora or the Goron Mask and he'll insult you in a pretty funny way:

"Eesh. You frighten me. I keep special hours for folks like you. Try comin' back at half past never."

He'll also have an interesting reaction if you speak to him wearing the Kafei Mask.

2: Talk to Cremia on the first day wearing the Kafei Mask and she'll act slightly annoyed, wondering whether some "middle-aged woman" put you up to this and saying Kafei is not there.

3: Talk to the Happy Mask Salesman wearing any given mask and he'll tell you something about it.

LOL! The servants dancing is hilarious! And also a good fighting strategy to beat them, huh?

Helpful secrets

1: Tired of putting water in a bottle everytime you have to water a magic bean? Well, once you've learned the Song of Storms, you can just play that to water the magic bean and make it sprout. Neat, huh?

2: Having problems with the Postman's time-keeping mini-game? Well, if you wear the Bunny Hood the timer will never disappear during the game, making it so much easier.

3: Are the Gorman Brothers proving too good at breaking Cremia's milk bottles as you're trying to get that hug? If you're wearing the Circus Leader's Mask, they won't attack the bottles at all!

Hidden conversations

If you let Sakon successfully rob the old lady, he will visit the Curiosity Shop Man just after midnight on the Second Day. Their conversation is quite interesting.

Helpful Hints

The winning Lottery numbers never change, so once you get the winning numbers for each day, you can earn a lot of rupees the easy way.

Remember the lone bird flying around the Clock Town Wall? Play your Ocarina for it and it will start dropping rupees!

I knew most of the secrets you guys said, like the Castle Ikana battle masks and blowing up Sakon. (Discovered that one by accident, wanted to see if shooting him with an arrow was a loophole)

A have two helpful tips I can remember.

Tip 1: In the Gerudo (Pirate) fortress, if you wear the stone mask then the guards can't see you, except the Pirate captains.

Tip 2: Some people don't know this, but f you wear that yellow pikachu like mask (Forgot what it's called) if you go to the dancing bushes in Clocktown, a fox thing appears and quizes you. If you pass you get a piece of heart. I was surprised how few people actually knew about this.

If you wear the captains hat and talk to Dampe, he will freak out and start running around really fast. Its so funny!

Yah, most of these are easy to figure out on one's own
Fun stuff though

Hidden conversations

The girl at the Treasure Box Shop gives you a lot of unique responses to the various masks.

Wear Kafei's Mask and talk to the receptionist at the Mayor's Residence, Anju's grandmother, Mutoh, Mutoh's apprentice and Shikashi (the Observatory man) for some interesting information.

After having saved Pamela's dad in Ikana Canyon, return to the Music Box House for some intriguing conversations and reactions (like when you try wearing the Gibdo Mask while talking to Pamela, or talk to her father in a transformed state).

Helpful Hints

Want to bomb some Dodongos? You still can in Majora's Mask. Just place a bomb in front of the Dodongo right before it breaths fire, since then when it breaths in it will swallow the bomb and get blown up.

Easter egg

We all know that the Happy Mask Salesman has a Mario Mask on him. However, had you noticed this detail?

Look at the mask behind his head, that is the face that's also on your mirror shield. Spooky...

I CAN'T GET THE HUG! Seriously I have only gotten the huge-rupee from her after the mask She just won't give me a hug and I've had the game for over 5 years. But I did kill Sakon by accident when just shooting him with a bow. The video about secrets in MM didn't have the scene with Kafei alone in Anju's room if you don't give the pendant to her. That one is so sad and I found it when I totally forgot to give the pendant of Memories to Anju once.

I've heard whether you get a rupee or a hug depends on how well you protect the milk bottles. I got the hug on my first try, using the Circus Leader's Mask to keep the Gorman Brothers from even attacking. Maybe you can try doing that.

there are more dancing bushes than just the ones in clock town where the Keaton will appear, using the Keaton mask. there's another thread on it somewhere...there's one on Milk Road, and one somewhere else. you can only get the piece of heart from the quizzes once though.

I never saw the 3rd day scenes with Romani and Cremia. That's the saddest thing I've ever seen on YouTube.
