Blood?

A friend and I have been playing through OoT recently, and we're currently at the Bottom of The Well. Now, the floors and walls are slathered in blood, there's a cross, and there's a room with pairs of skeletal hands poking out of acid. Again blood EVERYWHERE.

My question is this: how can OoT scrape an E Rating while TP gets a T for Blood when there's only a teensy bloodstain on the KaKariko gate?

Re: Blood?

Good question.

Bottom of the Well is pretty graphic for an E-Rated game.

Re: Blood?

Someone asked the same thing once. The bottom of the well has blood all over. If I'm not mistaken, Shadow Temple has, too. But I really don't know why it's E. When I was a kid, I hated the bottom of the well xD

Re: Blood?

Funny, I've always hated the BOTW, until last night.

It was probably my favorite part of my current run.

I don't know, I actually I thought the Kakariko gates were just painted or rusting. OoT Ganondorf vomits a puddle of blood, TP Ganondorf just dies standing up. TP had half-nude Great Fairies (though it wasn't rated for that), OoT has a fully-naked Zora princess. Both of these points and many more only prove that Ocarina of Time should have had at least a T rating. I guess when OoT was remade on GameCube, ESRB changed their minds and wanted it to be rated T then, but Nintendo changed just a few things so that it wouldn't be. I don't know what they were scared of if they got Twilight Princess rated T though. Plus, although there were things removed, OoT was still more graphic than TP.

EDIT: Dead Hand alone could be in a M game. There are severed arms reaching from out of the ground, and a glob of meat and gore that chews off part of your face. HOW was this game rated E? The TP Redeads aren't even as creepy as OoT's.

Re: Blood?

The red areas could as well be shadows since dark areas of blue can produce deep, red shadows. Or, it can be rust. Rust can turn into a vibrant red at times with the right chemicals and salinity.

If it was blood, Nintendo should have raised the G8+ rating a little...

Because I have to admit that I was freaked out as a little girl when I played OoT for the first time as it came out on the N64. Terrible really. :/

Re: Blood?

I often wonder how Ocarina of Time got an E rating as well.

Speaking of the Bottom of the Well, here's something spooky that a friend of mine realized:

The lowest part of the dungeon, the dirty area with the ReDead(s), the rotting arms/hands sticking out of the acid, and the Silver Rupees, can only be reached by falling through the floor in various places (which are often obscured by illusions). What's so creepy about this?

The map of the lowest area is shaped like a falling person.

http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/ze...11/Welloot.jpg

See the map on the far right. The tunnels with the D and E at the end are the legs, and the tunnels with the C and the map symbol are the arms. The "body" is bent as it falls, and the spot labeled 7 is where the head would presumably be.

Creepy, no?

Re: Blood?

Perhaps ESRB had a different standard for rating games back then.

Re: Blood?

I'm seriously not sure. I don't understand why even OoT would need a T rating and putting one on TP was just silly. But I do agree, if any Zelda out of the two should be rated teen. It should be OoT.~ ^^

Re: Blood?

Yeah, the Bottom of the Well and Shadow Temple are bloody places.
But remember, no animated blood.
Even so, the European Virtual Console classifies the game as 12 +, which is sorta like "Teen", right?

Re: Blood?

It could be E still simply because the game graphics themselves weren't that detailed with the blood. Whereas in TP, the blood and game has better graphics and detail, making it T.

That place really messes with your mind.

Consider, however, that ye olde 1998 people were not concerned about games causing violence.

Re: Blood?

There is barely any blood in the Shadow Temple. I was reading all these things saying how much it scared people and how hard it was and all the torture devices etc. There is barely any blood, very few torture devices and it IS NOT SCARY (maybe that's because I'm not a little kid). Either nothing scares me or you guys are wimps.

There might not be that much blood in the Shadow Temple, but there is in the Bottom of the Well. In fact, the first hallway with a skeleton in it has blood all over the floor, the walls, and even parts of the ceiling.

Yeah...that's pretty ridiculous. I remember going into the first hallway, which looked like a dead end...and the first thing I did was press top C and look around...There was blood smeared all over and rusted chains and broken fences...Freaked me out so bad, I immediently turned around and left...after getting attacked by the Skulltula of course. xD

Re: Blood?

The bottom of the well? Don't even get me started. After my first trip in there, I couldn't eat anything red for a half a week, and I'd only been in there ten mintues, tops. Granted, the Shadow temple wasn't as bad. It was more mind tricks then straight-out bloody horror.

On the tangent of Twilight Princess, I found it irksome that they gave T for a few drop of blood while OoT has bucket loads. Just goes to show how 'mainstream' video games have become.
