200 years of community service?

AWKWARD ZOMBIE

Reading that makes me think "Why do they get halos and rise in a shaft of light, instead of being dragged down into a fiery pit by demonic hands?"

Any theories or explanations for this? I would understand it a fiery pit may raise the rating or something, but why have them rise in a shaft of light? It's strange.

I've seen that comic before; but I have no idea if there is any real truth in it. But, never the less, it is funny.

Re: 200 years of community service?

I'm guessing Nintendo tried to add something they thought was funny, so they had them in halos and light instead of a claw shooting out from Hell to pull them down to eternal damnation. Too bad it was only funny because I was 6 when I played it the first time.

I really think it was just for comedic effect.

Re: 200 years of community service?

Comedic effect is most likely the right answer, but I'll attempt to give a more serious answer.

Hyrule's religion is vastly different from our real-world religions. (Halos and shafts of light are just a stereotype anyway). For all we know, Koume and Kotake weren't damnable by their religious standards. They were certainly evil, but that's not necessarily an offense in Hyrule's religion.

Quote:
The three goddesses hid the
Triforce containing the power of
the gods somewhere in Hyrule.

The power
to grant the wish of the one who
holds the Triforce in his hands.

If someone with a righteous heart
makes a wish, it will lead Hyrule
to a golden age of prosperity...

If someone with an evil mind has
his wish granted, the world will
be consumed by evil...That is what
has been told...
Quote:
Though you opened the Door of Time in the name of peace...
Ganondorf, the Gerudo King of Thieves, used it to enter this forbidden Sacred
Realm!
He obtained the Triforce from the Temple of Light, and with its power, he
became the King of Evil...
His evil power radiated from the temples of Hyrule, and in seven short years,
it transformed Hyrule into a world of monsters.
Quote:
If you would seek the sacred triangle, listen well...
The resting place of the sacred triangle, the Sacred Realm, is a mirror that
reflects what is in the heart...
the heart of one who enters it...
If an evil heart, the Realm will become full of evil; if pure, the Realm will
become a paradise.
The Triforce...the sacred triangle...
it is a balance that weighs the three forces:
Power, Wisdom and Courage.
If the heart of the one who holds the sacred triangle has all three forces in
balance, that one will gain the True Force to govern all.
But, if that one's heart is not in balance, the Triforce will separate into
three parts:
Power, Wisdom and Courage.
Only one part will remain for the one who touched the Triforce...the part
representing the force that one most believes in.
If that one seeks the True Force, that one must acquire the two lost parts.
Those two parts will be held within others chosen by destiny, who will bear the
Triforce mark on the backs of their hands.
Seven years ago, Ganondorf, the King of Thieves, used the door you opened in
the Temple of Time and entered the Sacred Realm.
Quote:
That when power, wisdom, and courage
come together, the gods would have no
choice but to come down...

The power of the gods... The Triforce!
He who touches it will have whatever he
desires granted!
Apparently, the Triforce (which is the essence of the gods) cannot discern good from evil. Or if it can, it has no free will to do good or evil.

So even though Twinrova is evil, they may have been sent to "heaven" (or Hyrule's equivalent) anyway because they followed whatever citeria was necessary in their religion.

We aren't told what happens to people in Hyrule when they die, but for whatever reason, Koume and Kotake went into shaft of light with halos. Good or evil, they still followed Hyrule's religious customs.

If they are a threat to the safety of others then they should be put away somewhere and I don't care where just as long as they aren't on the loose turning people into slaves.

Except that religions revolve around gods, which in this case would be the Golden Goddesses. Gods can discern between good and evil in the Zelda series, so Twinrova should be doomed with any serious consideration.

Really, comedic effect is the right answer. The whole thing is even just a set-up for the sisters to argue about their age.

Re: 200 years of community service?

Heh... I remember that comic.

Anyway... Maybe they're so evil, that the goddesses thought that the Twinrova would like it in hell/underworld, so they sendt them to heaven/afterlife.

I laughed so much when I read that comic

Oh and on another note, Dampe also has a shaft of light and a halo when he dies...

Re: 200 years of community service?

Maybe Hyrule's religion doesn't have Heaven/Hell kind of opposites at all. Maybe they only have one afterlife, one place they all go to, good or evil. Just because the gods in this world are strict about their followers' behaviour, that doesn't mean Hyrule's Golden Goddesses are. Maybe they let everybody have an equal afterlife.

made me laugh, but I don't think that it really has any significance. I mean, it doesn't say in any specific game what happens when you die in hyrule...

But when the guard dies in the ally he doesn't get a shaft of light and a halo.

Re: 200 years of community service?

Maybe they go to heaven, get judged, then sent to hell.

Reminds me of a dream I once had, I went to heaven, and had to wait in line to get to a desk were some lady had my profile on a computer and I had to fill out paperwork.

I doubt they'd damn someone in a kid's game. There's also the comic effect.

If we are going to go with a proper in game reason (Instead of just pointing out the creators probably did it for comedy (as they probably did)) then I would go with Meralia.

There are many real world religions that only have one afterlife destination (I think generally believing your punishment happens in this life rather than the next) so I would say that that the Zelda universe’s afterlife would probably be similar.

They can't really insinuate that you go to a bad place when you die, and they have to go somewhere. So where else to go but up?
