I was just thinking about Navi and I wonderd, Is she called Navi because shes a navigator for the player?

Actually, most characters in any video game gets their name changed in localization. For example, in Japanese, Link is called Rinku.

Also, Tatl and Tael of Majora's Mask are named thusly because it's a pun for Tattletale. Exciting, innit?
