Why is OOT called best game ever?

Sure, it was a great game. But it lacked the difficulty of the prevouis games, plus there was Hyrule Field, which was not only empty but there were no enemys in it at all but peahats, skeletons (forgot there names), and poes. The legend of zelda theme wasn't in it at all, plus I thought the mini-games were boring. The main town wasn't to good either.

Cause it contained what we call industry standards now. Ppl had never seen lock-on targeting before, atomatic jumping, or graphics of that calibure. It's considered the Casablanca, Godfather, or Star Wars of gaming. (however you want to put it.) I don't think many had seen a game that long before either.

It was an amazing(ly) (surprising) transition from 2-D to 3-D, for any game. It had the best video game story at the time as well.

I guess so many ppl think of that game when you say Zelda. And did so much for the gaming industry ppl just never forget it.

Not everyone calls it the best game ever. For me, that honor rests with Super Metroid.

For most people, the meat of the game and the reason that it was so good was not because of the difficulty, towns, or the enemies in the main field. It was because of the plot and the fact that it took the step into 3-D, essentially defining what good adventure games should be like. The combat worked surprisingly well, the graphics were way better than any Final Fantasy at the time, and everything gameplay-wise worked perfectly. It introduced the Zelda universe in a new fashion that blew pretty much every other adventure game made up to that point clear out of the water. OoT was a truly genre-defining game.

That being said, it seriously ****ed up the timeline. That's really my only complaint with the game.

Innovation is NOT the same as being a good game. When you pick up OoT today, it's not what features were new in 1998 that's going to keep you playing. It's the excellent gameplay, storyline, sidequests, etc., which are still 10 / 10 by today's standards

Oh I thought he meant the whole game, lol. But the theme song is still zelda too.

Oh ya and if you (heroman) think that the game is too easy then you should try master quest, it's alot of fun.

Or the 3-hearts challenge! I did it with minimal items too, i.e. no lens of truth / zora tunic (I accidentally got the fire tunic so I let a like-like eat it, lol)

Yea, my full list was:

3 hearts
No rings around hearts
First half of magic meter
No maps or compasses
No lens of truth
No deku nuts on inventory screen
No magic beans on inventory screen
No deku seeds to recharge slingshot
No fire / ice arrow
No farore's wind / nayru's love
No bottles except the mandatory one from Ruto
No biggoron sword / giant's knife
No horse / epona's song
No wallets > than the kid's wallet
No gold skulltulas
No quiver / nut / seed / stick / bomb upgrades
No zora tunic
No goron tunic (messed that part up but got rid of it)
No song of storms, sun song

You can also avoid the bolero of fire, and if you're really good, it might be possible to beat the game without ever picking up arrows anywhere (does it take more than 30 to beat the game? I really don't know), same with bombs. I think you would need to pick up magic power though, for the light arrows against ganondorf

Yeah MM had the original Zelda theme in its field, it was nice.

I have never played Master Quest, though I read here that it has harder dungeons, except for water temple if I am not mistaken. The puzzles are different. I saw a cow in Jabu's belly on youtube...

I'm really not sure.

Zelda fans need to make a difference between "Best for it's time" and "Best NOW".

OoT is definitely the best Zelda "for it's time" but NOW it's aged and definitely is not the best game ever, by any means.

Wow, u r my hero! (jk)
Anyway, are u sure u wanna ask that, heroman? This thread could continue 4evur... but yeah basically people like it because it was so great for its time. It's also The Classic, everyone's fav from back in the day, giving it nostalgic value.

I should write down that list...

I've never rated it as the best game; I've never even rated it as a good game. Give me a list of all the games created and I could find dozens, neigh, hundreds of games that I consider better.

2.Super Smash Bros Brawl
3.Wind Waker

OOT isn't even in my top 20.

Maybe because the main overworld theme was nowhere to be found.
And some other reasons too.

I don't know, it's not the best game I've played. But what I mentioned is definitely one of it's greater aspects.

Just go to metacritic.com and look for the game's reviews. You will see why they hail it as the best ever.

Because Ocarina of Time is a very important game that pushed the video game industry forward in the same sense that Super Mario 64 did. Not only that, but it is a great game that has no glaring flaws, just little nitpicks that add up to nothing. With that said, I feel that Majora's Mask surpassed it in every sense, Link's Awakening had better writing, and A Link to the Past is more timeless. Ocarina of Time is still aging quite well... The gameplay is still above most of the games that come out today, and the atmosphere for the temples are only surpassed by the worlds in the Metroid games.

I found OoT's Hyrule Field theme way better than the classic overworld theme.

That's funny, because I found OoT's Hyrule Field Theme to be a rather bland, Pokemon-ish song. They really should have used the classic overworld theme for the field.

It's also rather odd to note that OoT is the only game in the ENTIRE SERIES not to feature the Legend of Zelda theme for a least a little bit. (Even TP stuck it into the credits)

I consider it the 4th best Zelda, after MM, aLttP, and LA.

Lots of people consider it the best because it was the first Zelda they played, and because, in it's time, it was extremely good. However, it was a carbon copy of aLttP, and as it wasn't my first Zelda game (AoL was mine), I didn't get the nostalgia kick.

I must admit, I find OoT fans somewhat irritating. It really isn't quite as goo as they make it out to be.

EDIT:
Quote:

That was uncalled for. While some of the music is admittedly bland, some is brilliant. Take Stark Mountain music, Red's theme from GSC, Cyrus battle music, the main Pokemon theme, etc. That series does actually have some brilliant music.
