forest temple entrance help

I am in the sacred forest meadow. I can kill the gaurds that look like bulls that are in the maze, but when I get to the big one with the hammer that guards the top of the stairs I cant figure out how to kill him. Can anyone tell me how to do this I have been trying for a while and just cant figure it out. Please help!

When he smashes the hammer on the ground, it sends out a shockwave. Just dodge the shockwave by running around it (if it's on the right, go left, for instance), run up to him, and slash him with your sword.

What I did was dodge his shockwaves and throw bombs at him. It was kinda hard but it worked.

What I do is this, after dodging his shockwaves, once I get near to him I stun him w/ the hookshot. Dispense of him from there with ease. You'll have to be quick enough to take the hookshot out on your own though, I find it helpful to move side to side once and as soon as he starts going down, hop to the other side and hookshot him. My $.02.

It's easy to just roll out of the way, when you get behind him, you can just hit him with your sword til he dies, or just screw it altogether and keep going. When you get teh bow and arrow from the Forest Temple, it is very easy to kill him from afar.
