Majora's Mask Ending

Alright, this has something that has always bugged me......near the end of the ending sequence, why is the Deku Royal Family Butler greiving over the deformed half deku half tree thing you see in the beginning of the game? I have never understood that part of the ending......when I stumbled upon these forums I figured someone might know....or at least have a theory.

It's generally thought that this tree is in fact his son, which ended up wandering off never to return some time before Link comes to Terminia. The Butler mentions this in his conversation with you after he gives you the Mask of Scents. There have been tons of theories about it, about how he managed to get past the "Gear Door" in the Clock Tower, but nobody has figured it out. Generally, people seem to think that upon leaving, he was attacked or something and was turned into the deformed stump that Link finds...

I doubt that we'll never know. Those are all theories, and nobody has been able to get back to that place after the door seals shut. And trust me, people have tried. Oh, how they have tried - perhaps nearly as much as they did to find the Triforce in Ocarina of Time.

And I'm sure that there are others who are going to comment on this...could even awaken a huge tsunami of Majora's Mask theories from the dead.

I think that that was really kinda sad. It's like aw, poor guy, his son's a frozen stump. It didn't really seem to fit in with the light hearted feeling of the end, you know??

I think that it's the buttler's son.
He found a secret entrance to the room , and he and his dad are the only ones who know about it.

When Link was turned into a Deku Scrub by Skull Kid , he got the Deku Buttler's son's soul.
I say this because the souls of Darmani and Mikau are in the Goron and Zora Masks too , so it would make sence that the Deku Mask has a soul in it too.
When the Deku Buttler's son got his soul ripped out of his body , he turned into a lifeless tree.

Well , that's my theory , it makes sence to me.

It makes a lot of sense to me too. I have been thinking which souls belong in the 4 transformation masks. I still am thinking hard about which soul belongs in the Fierce Diety Mask.

Show me this stump-son guy. I got past the beginning, I just forgot what this dude looks like.

that theory is what many of us thought from the end - some were skeptical at first, but now it seems that it's spreading.

I think little things like this were intended by the game designers to be a mystery and that they trusted that fans like us would make up these theories and that they might someday become an actual part of the story line. who knows? maybe one day they'll finally make the "ultimate legend of zelda" including redesigned versions of all the games with the same basic frame and enhanced graphics and added storyline bits based on what we make of the story

You would have to be dumb as a stump to not realize that that is the Deku Butler's son, and that his spirit was used to turn Link into a Deku Scrub.

yea, its quite obvious that the skull kid did it. he is the only one capable of doing such an evil thing. and it is almost definite that it is the spirit trapped in the deku mask. my theory is that the skull kid used him to turn link into a deku scrub, they both look similar. they have both got a sorrowful look on their faces. and the butler said that deku link reminded him of his son.
