Any motivation to keep on going?
Hi guys,
Yesterday I thought; let's try Majora's Mask again. I played it when I was like 10/11 and I thought the time-thingy sucked. I couldn't get used to it and it just irritated me too much... Now that I found this forum and stuff I felt like trying the game again. And so I did. Last time I quitted right before the first temple. Now I quitted right after it. Why? Well - eventhough it's been 7 years, I still find the time-thingy very irritating. I can't get used to it and it puts too much pressure on my Zelda-play. I went into the dungeon, finished it, came out, had 3 more minutes left, went to the Deku Shrine with 1 min to go and I thought: I simply have to get this item before I play the song of time again...otherwise I have to do this again. But...I was too late. Bam, everything gone. Could start all over again (didn't save in the meantime; just kept on playing). So, now I'm thinking about leaving the game for another few years until I touch it again. I seriously can't be arsed to do the stuff in the beginning all over again...exactly the same way. It's just plain boring. But there are some people who say that Majora's Mask is awesome. I'm sure there are fans on this forum...can these people please tell me some things, which will motivate, without spoiling stuff, to start over again? Somewhere inside I simply have to beat this game...

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
use a walkthrough. it will at least help you advance through the game in an efficient manor, with as little time travel as possible. now I know some people will scoff at this suggestion, but at least you'll be able to see the whole game and experience the great story and characters. they're worth it.

No way! Walkthroughs ruin the fun! The time thing never irritated me, in fact I think it was a great addition (the saving system sucks though). Have you tried playing the song of time backwards? It should give you more than enough time (the normal time is still enough to me though).

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
I agree with Trickster. The time element was great! A tad pressuring, yes, but still great. Especially how all the schedules worked out. The saving, however, was a pain. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game.

also, you can't just play the song backwards and have it work. you have to get the song first, and he said he just got past the first dungeon. so obviously he hasn't gotten that far yet.

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
???? The song of time is the first thing you get on the game.

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
Sometimes I feel like I love MM more than anyone else in the world.
I don't know, for me the time thing was absoflippin'lutely smashing. It made me feel like I was actually a part of the game, and that I had more meaning in it. The fact that if I was at a certain place at a certain time, a certain somethig would happen, just for me. The idea that I was trapped in time. The fact that I had to hurry to get places and do things alone was my motivation. Of course, the insane amount of emotional roller-coastering helped a little. But if you're not into that cup of tea, just reverse the song of time (I'm quite sure you're able to do that from the minute you get the ocarina), and you should have bags of time. And if that's still not enough, get a walkthrough. But you must experience this game.

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
I found I was rushed as well. How I kept going? I didn't take any time to complete things. There are so many side quests I left unfinished and dungeons unexplored in that game. I didn't have time to look for everything.
I'm also planning to play Majora's Mask again since it's been about 4 years since I first played it. I think I'm going to use a walk through to ensure I have a complete play though. I am usually against walkthroughs, but since I've already beat it by myself, I won't feel guilty and I usually use some sort of guide for all the extras. |

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
Haha, my love for Zelda makes me weak. I just finished the first dungeon again...
![]() I was bored and I thought; man, I just have to do it. I'm not the kind of guy who uses a walkthrough nor the kind of guy who cheats (using that song while I havent learned it yet), so I just did it the normal way. Surprisingly I had 2 full in-game days left in stead of 3 minutes after the dungeon! I was amazingly fast, because I knew exactly what to do. I was also able to skip the bean-part and the sneaking in the Palace Garden; seemed like I saved in between after all. Anyway, now I can keep on going ! Thanks for the motivation guys. The argument: use a walkthrough, worked, because it made me think: "Omg, those guys think I can't beat it the normal way!" .

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
that song is not a cheat, in fact the scarecrow tells you about it. The song you have to play backwards is the song of time, and I'm pretty darn sure you already learned that one. Go talk to the scarecrow and he will tell you about it.

Re: Any motivation to keep on going?
You can use the Inverted Song of Time to slow it down quite a bit; I also suggest using a walk through to at least map out a course of action so you spend less time wandering (number one annoyance with this game).
