Majora's Mask. play it again?

Alright.

I caught your attention with the thread heading that explained absolutly NOTHING about this post. so now you have to stay and read this.

I sit here, my tv beside me. I have my Gamecube turned on and Majora's Mask just started. Currently Link is standing in the entrance to the very first temple in the game (name? it sprung out of the water when i played a song with the Deku mask on) anyway, I was just about to start playing when i kinda just didn't feel like it anymore. See, I have only ever played thru MM 1 time, I bought the game the first day it came out for the N64 and i played it right thru untill the end in 1 sitting. (i stopped for food and bathroom breaks and thats it). When i played it, i didn't give all my masks to the kids on the moon and therefore never got the fierce deity mask, i still beat the game however.

I decided way back then after playing the game in 1 sitting that i didn't like it as much as OOT and never ever played it again. Now i sit here and try to think...of ANYTHING about the game that i remember. I remember nothing. its like i never played the game, so in some sence im lucky! I love OOT but i have it memorized to the point where its almost not fun to play.

So here i sit, with a game that TONS of people on here LOVE...and its like i've never played it before, but i have this nagging feeling.... that tells me i hated it once..so why try it again....

what do you all think?

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

You should play it again, I had it for 64 and got stuck on the 3rd temple (I was a little kid at the time, just entering the zelda world after Oot) and quit, fastforward about 8 years, I replay it all the way through, awsome game. (Still not Oot, but still an awsome game.)

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

Ive kinda had that same experience.

Never bought OOT on n64, but I borrowed it and bought Majora.
I only recently went back and beat The skull king dude and got the mirror shield, and am have yet to do the last temple.

I don't remember much so maybe I should go back and replay it...

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

I just played up to and thru the first temple in MM.... i found the temple itself to be fine.. but the MUSIC! oh god the annoying music was only offset by the even more annoying final boss.... bleh. so far i still hate this game, although im quite happy with the fact that i feel like im playing a zelda game i never have before. hehe, its like i didnt have to wait!.

I hope the game gets better from here on out. I seem to remember thinking that the Deku part was the most painful.

Each to their own, I suppose. I am of the opinion that Majora's Mask is far better than Ocarina Of Time.

If you really want to enjoy it, look behind the gameplay and enjoy the storyline. Complete every sidequest. Appreciate the challenge. Majora's mask is far deeper than Ocarina Of Time, although you may have to approach it in a different way.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

Ha. I just started replaying the masterpiece of a game today.

I too found (and still find) Majora's Mask to be way greater than OOT. In fact, it's my favorite 3D Zelda thus far. There's so many memorable characters, songs, scenes, etc. I just can't get enough of the game. I always replay it to think back of how a Zelda game should be in terms of characters, story, and plot. It's an epic experience every time.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

Interesting. so many people LOVE MM. odd indeed.

This topic actualy goes a little deeper then most people would assume. I - the quintessential OoT diehard fan. - am now embarking on a trip, to see if i am indeed correct in my feelings.... feelings that i am now going to test. First is Majora's Mask and next.... I will try Twilight Princess again.

Will i still think OoT is the best Zelda game ever made? I think i will. but i suppose we shall see. I have high hopes for Majora's Mask.

Definatley. You have a once in a life time chance to expirience MM anew. The first time is always the most exiting so you should play it again. Right now.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

Interesting. I just did the Side mission for Anju and Keif (hope i got the names right) I just started the game so i could only progress a little ways. I ended up giving the pendant of memories to the girl.... and she waited. She waited and waited and all she ever said was "I have decided to wait for him" "It's ok, i know he will come" (not exact quotes) but you get my drift. I didn't know and don't know yet how to complete this side quest (NO i dont want to know, i'll figgure it out) so in the dying moments of the world of Termina....when everyone else had left the little town.... there she sat... on a bed at the inn. She waited..... he never came.

Seeing this happen. Standing beside the bed and watching the last seconds tick by, knowing her whole family had fled town and she had stayed behind for her love. I know its a game. but it evoked an emotion that i haven't felt since i first played OOT. I cared about a character in the game. Its kind of a sad feeling, but at the same time im happy, because i FELT something. So much so that i couldn't bare to let her die, i pulled out my Ocarina and returned time to the first day.... *shrug*

and THAT right there is what is missing from Twilight Princess.

anyway, im gonna keep playing now.

That's pretty lucky. I had a similar experience with Animorphs over the summer. I love the series and I have all the books, but I hadn't touched them since they ended in 2001. I remembered very little about the later books, so when I finally reread them it was like I was reading them for the first time again.

You might end up liking MM more this time around. Yeah, it has its unique slew of frustrations, but it seems to have drastically risen in popularity since TP. I guess people felt a lot of what was lacking in TP was overwhelmingly present in MM, and on top of that it's not stuck in OoT's shadow anymore. So, enjoy. The general consent is that game improves with every new dungeon and region.

Although I have memorized the whole OoT game, from start to finish, I still find it alot of fun to play, starting a new file from the beginning.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

I find that when I blaze through a new great game in just a couple of sittings, I find myself unable to remember much about it as well, which is kinda sad considering the reason I rushed through in the first place is because I love it so much. :,( Now I try to take my time and smell the flowers so that I actually have some memories and I get more time to enjoy the experience.

The games that I rushed through were MM and WW, and probably others that I can't remember. I only vaguely remember that I like them a lot, and I'm trying to play through them again more slowly now. On the other hand, I know OoT and TP top to bottom because I spent so much time just hanging around and taking it all in. I have many more fond memories of them.

Try going for it again. Get some masks, complete some sidequests, and you might see why you liked it before.

Play through the game, and the feeling will leave you. Once you play it again, you'll realize you like it and you'll remember more of it. Ever read a really good book and got bored with it the moment you started reading it again? Just read the book, and the weird feeling will be over. It's the same situation.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

Wow, i forgot how cool the Mountain regions were. I just got the Goron mask and unfroze the Blacksmiths shop so they could sharpen my sword.... i have a feeling there is more to that being as he tells me my sword will only be good for 100 swings. I remember a cool 2nd sword in the game....but i dont remember where it comes from or why. YAY!

side note *Blacksmith is freakin hilarious, the sound effect they gave for him telling his huge helper to shut up made me laugh out loud. Make that 2 things that MM has already done better then TP. Its funny. I knew OoT was better then TP and I know that PH is more fun then TP and now, im only a quarter the way thru MM and i already like it better then TP.

stupid TP... *shakes his head*

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

It's definitely a good idea to play it through again. If it helps, don't play it all in one sitting - give it time, complete it over the space of a week or so. It keeps it exciting, and you'll be able to take a lot more in. And remember to do all the sidequests, because they're great fun.

MM's always been my favourite because it's such an emotional game. I find that it's very easy to connect with the characters and how they feel. There's depression and fear and joy and humour, and that's why it's a great game, with well-developed characters. You can get a sense of nearly all the characters' personalities. Whereas in TP I found everyone quite shallow.

Anyway, I'm going off topic now, so I'll stop. xD

Have fun with the game.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

At first, I didn't really like the fact that they used the same character designs. But these days it pretty much just brings back nostalgic feelings.

Re: Majora's Mask. play it again?

~SPOILERS~

I gotta say im havin fun, im not playing thru this nearly as fast as i did the first time.

Im still in the mountain region. It took me forever to figgure out i had to go punch a snowball and find the old geezer and learn the Goron Lullaby. I would have to say that MM is alot harder then most of the other 3d or handheld zelda games of the current era, it really dosn't give you any hints as to what to do. No NPC told me anything stupid or wierd like

"I hear the old geezer was walking thru the valley of snowballs, he walks so slow...i hope he didn't freeze into a snowball himself, haha"

Twilight Princess and PH both HAMMER you over the head with hints just like THAT when it comes to puzzles. MM defenetly makes you think for yourself in many cases. for this i am glad!

So yea, still havin fun with it. Finaly learned the Goron Lullaby and I'm yet to enter the mountain temple. That huge Goron you can see with the lense of truth is still blowing wind across the pathway.... I haven't tried yet but i assume i need to play the lullaby to make him stop. I found all the faries in the Deku Temple so I plan on trying to find them all in this temple as well.

I still haven't figgured out what that Goron who is standing at the begining of the mountain region is talking about.... he says he's going to starve and he wants something *Tough* to eat.... so far im like... wtf?

I notice the powder keg bomb shop is frozen over, i havn't tried to make it there to unfreez it yet. i assume having a powder keg will let me get to the ranch and get epona thus allowing me entrance to other area's of the game. Also of note is a frozen ice block over a hole in the
