Nearly Equal
I have very fond memories of both games, however, if I was stuck with one, I would have to say OoT. OoT simply revolutionized the 3rd person adventure game (it is NOT an RPG). Majora's Mask improved upon every aspect, but didn't quite impact you as much as OoT. There is much more to MM that is for certain (e.g. getting every mask, it's hard, don't lie, it is). Also, the dungeons are bigger in MM. MM had better graphics and possibly a better story if you looked deep enough into it and didn't just read the shallow, surface storyline (the moon symbolizes...). OoT is better, but juuuust barely.

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
Oh wow, very tough decision. Where do I start? Well, I really love both games. Each is unique in it's own Zeldaish way, yet they both are so similar. OoT had a great plot. I was so addicted to the game, and it's story, I practicaly ate, and breathed everything Zelda. (I was deprived of sleep because of the hours spent gawking at the t.v.) It really is a great game, and I play it all the time. MM, however, was more challenging. I loved the idea of the timed days, and the billion side quests that were required to do made me determined to finish the game. Sure, I had to start all the way over due to my 4 year old nephew erasing my file, when I had all but ONE MASK.. *breathes* But It was still worth it. I had a fantastic time playing both, so in my opinion, I can't really say which one is better. Equal!

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
I think OoT is better (well pretty much everyone does, isn't it
). Just riding across the vast beautiful plains of Hyrule Field... It's an experience that will likely never be matched by anything ever. Traversing the Haunted Wasteland, making your way through the Lost Woods, or finally facing Ganon in the BEST BOSS BATTLE EVER!! Sure, Ikana was brilliant, the Song of Healing very, very beautiful, and I loved the apocalyptic feel of the last hours of day 3 in MM... But it just can't match OoT

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
Well, I like them equally as well. Each Game holds its strong points and weaknesses.
For example; OOT was an impressive game back in it's time. The graphics are fantastic (for its time) and the game gives you dungeons that get harder and harder with each heartpoint. MM was also an excellent game for its time as well. Even though there is a shortage of dungeons in the game, mini-games and extras can be found anywhere, making the MM world fun to play with. |

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
I liked Majora's Mask better. It hooked me a lot more than OoT did. I love how there's a hundred sidequests and the whole deal with time. All of the other charactors had their own background, things to do and specific times, and personality. I just think that game's awesome.

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
Majora's mask would make a good movie. The moments I liked best in Majora's Mask were the intensely atmospheric ones, the ones that made me feel happy, sad, scared, etc. For example, the whole alien subplot really upset me when I lost the challenge. It freaked me out when Romani was abducted. With ocarina of time, it gives you this big, medieval world (with more than just lots of empty space like in Wind Waker) and lets you react to situations the way you would personally, not as much through cinematics and plot. I'm big on story and sweep rather than intricate details when it comes to video games. For example, in Majora's Mask, my emotions were manipulated because no matter how many times I saved people, the moon was still going to fall the whole game. I did not want to play a game about tragedy. However, in Ocarina of Time, there is a simple story, an outline, with lots of description, like how you get to know the carpenter's son and he turns into a skull kid in the Lost Woods, but in his place is a smilining Kokiri girl. There are no facial closeups or dramatic changes in music. I thought it was funny how she ends up giving you the saw. When I play a game, I don't want to experience emotional turmoil. I live with my grandparents, I have enough of that. Ocarina of Time was about heroism and was just enough like a world to captivate me. It was not thematically random. When something bad happened, there was resolution. Majora's Mask was about the end of the world and seemed almost existential in parts. Why are there aliens. Because. And they are annoying to beat to frustrate , not challenge you.

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
For me, that decision would be impossible!! OoT was awesome. It was totally perfect. It was incredibly epic, had an awesome story line, and blew me away. After beating Ganon (who happens to be my favorite boss of all time) and beating the game for the first time, I thought to myself, "Man, there is no way they could beat this game!" I was wrong. I was skeptical of MM at first, but my skepticism was put to bed when I started to play it. They had taken all of OoT's greatness and gave it an incredibly unique twist. It was just so different, and that's why I think it's so darn good.
In short, if I was forced to make a decision between the two, my head would explode. ![]() |

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
DUH, obviously OoT. Although MM has its own luster in its own little way, OoT's storyline is much better. When compared, they really don't compare. And then, there's the fact that he's back into a kid in MM. I like the *Adult* Link! Who doesn't? And Epona is cooler as a full grown mare.
![]() And the music is better! I mean come on, that "Song of Soaring" was a pathetic attempt at good music. The Song of Storms is cool!! MM still rocks, though. Just not as much as OoT. BYE!

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
Although I greatly enjoyed Majora's Mask, I would have to say that Ocarina of Time is better. The main reason behind this is probably due to the fact that Ocarina of Time was a big step in the Zelda series whereas Majora's Mask built on that step, but didn't really revolutionize anything. Needless to say, both games were greatly anticipated by the general public.

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
I like both fairly equally.
Ocarina of Time, which is my personal most favorite game, is damn near pefect. It has it all: a wonderfully epic storyline, complete with a great cast of characters, superb (for their time) graphics, an utterly fantastic soundtrack, great controls, and simply fun gameplay. No matter what you do in this game, be it riding around Epona at dusk in Hyrule Field, or stomping Dodongos, this game is just great fun. And the ending is just...wow. Majora's Mask is also a really great game. The storyline is interesting, but personally, I think the focus of the story is -less- on Skull Kid and Majora's Mask, but -more- on the people of Clock Town, and how they deal with the prospect of their coming annihilation. You could say the game has two goals: 1) beat Skull Kid/Majora's Mask, and save Termina, and 2) make the people of Clock Town happy. This concept comes into play many times, if you follow the Bomber's Notebook. Especially for the Anju/Kafei storyline. The gameplay is also fantastic. Four big dungeons, lots of unique puzzles, the transformative and other masks, and so on. The graphics are notably better than in OoT, and the soundtrack is every bit as good. And there's plenty of sidequests, to be sure! This game has a lot more replay value than OoT, IMO, especially becuase you can refight the bosses. But, overall, Majora's Mask is just very slightly behind Ocarina of Time. It's a wonderful game, but I do wish it were a bit longer. Maybe one or two more dungeons? Of course, that would kinda mess up the whole idea of the Guardians, but. Do keep in mind that Majora's Mask is probably my 2nd most favorite game. ^_^;

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
They are both great games! MM seemed to be more in depth, I really enjoyed interacting with all the caracters and finding out what made each and everyone of them unique. The mask transformation was just awesome! But my vote goes to OoT, the game was more epic, more inspiring, it had more of the details that make up a Zelda game, the boss battles were more exciting (unlike that gryorg, I hate you annoying fish!!!!), OoT made me feel that natural Zelda feeling that MM could not.

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
MM is loads better in my mind. Its a lot longer, there is a billion cool side quests, and the masks were awsome! I could play that game for a month and still not get to the end. OoT was too short for me. And five, five!, different links to play with!!! How sweet is that?

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
I really liked Majora's Mask better. I really liked the dark storyline. i found it sad that everyperson you meet, had a messed up life because of the Skull Kid. i found it gave me much more a drive to kill the mask then i ever felt to kill ganondorf. i also loved all the masks, especcially the zora's mask.
dont get me wrong, Ocarina was great as well but i found that it got a bit dull after about the water temple, even though i absolutly loved fighting the witches as they were the most fun boss EVER. i thought that oot was a bit too forced, as in you had to do it the way they wanted you to. in MM you at least had the choice to save certain people, and i for one liked the time thing because i liked to see what the people did if i changed what i did during the first or second day... i am done now.

Re: OoT vs MM: which is better?
I like MM for the same reasons tdog101 did. I thought turning into Fierce Deity Link (oni-Link) was awesome (you can tell by the generic avatar). Also, I liked the world of Termina better, and then there's the storyline, whew, it was awesome. All the emphasis on friendships and the killer moon, it was sweet. and the field on the moon with the one tree, I could look at that forever, it's so placid.
