Deku Butler and Son?

Now in MM, if you may recall the Deku Butler told you of how his son ventured out into the world and had no idea of what might have happened to him. At the very end of the game you see him staring at this small tree(that resembled a sad deku scrubb) that you originally ran into when entering termania. Now does anyone believe that to be his son and if so, how do you think it happened?

I think it could be. Maybe the Skull Kid (with Majora's Mask on) turned him that way for one reason or another? I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas around mainly.

I think the Skull Kid cursed the Deku Butler's son and used his soul to curse Link. Then when Link played the song of healing it was turned into a mask.

When you play the elegy of emptiness as a deku the statue looks a lot like the twisted tree.

I think the Deku mask is the Butler's son.

You know how all the masks that require the Song of Healing are taken from deceased spirits? If this is so, it's very possible that Skull Kid killed (and pertified) the Butler's son, and attached his soul to Link. That would make the most sense to me.

Besides, the Elegy of Emptiness, like spruce said, shows the spirit of the mask, like with the Zora and Goron Masks, and the spirit of the Deku Mask just-so-happens to look like the twisted tree.

Hm...I've never thought of that before, but it's a good theory. I bet it is true.

I am pretty sure the mask was just the evil magic of the Skull Kid. Not some guy's son.

I'm in agreement with this as well...because they take the time in-game to point out the connection. Tatl mentions that the tree looks a lot like Link in Deku form. The butler remarks that Link reminds him strongly of his son, and then at the end of the game, the butler is mourning in front of the tree. I doubt that was in there just for kicks - they wanted us to make the connection without suckerpunching us in the face with it.

Every transformation mask contains the spirit of someone who has passed on. Mikau and Darmani both died, and while we never see what exactly happens to the Deku responsible for the mask, all the signs are there. The twisted thing is that for Skull Kid to have done that to Link he effectively killed the Deku child himself, using it's soul for the mask...

Besides, it adds much more depth to the ending of the story (as if the story didn't have enough already) if the stump is his son's remains... It's all well and good having the Skull Kid reunited with his friends and purged of the evil that was in the mask, and the wedding of Anju and Kafei is a heartwarming one, but the game doesn't let us forget that while Link saved their world there are still major consequences to the story.

My theory on the Deku mask is this...

The Skullkid wields the power of Majora's Mask, and can transform Link into a Deku Scrub without the use of a soul or anything. So he transformed Link into one, because he felt like it (and he's evil). Then when the Mask Seller plays the Song of Healing, Link is healed, and transformed into a mask, but his human form wasn't sealed in the mask because it wasn't his original form. It would make more sense this way, because if it was the Butler's Son, then wouldn't the Skullkid have his mask? =\ But it is possible Link is supposed to represent the Butlers son, something a little similar from FFX between Chappu and Tidus.

how many times has this thread been made? its gotta be his son, if you look at the butler he seems almost as if he is crying.

Yes, yes yes we all (or enough of us) agree that the Buttler's son was the deku tree at the beginning and at the end.
He says his son was gone somehwere, then he's crying in front of him at the end.
Why else would he be crying unless it wasn't his son?

The Deku's son is the Deku scrub. In the beggining of the game that tree is him.

Thats why the butler tells you that you remind him of his son.

If the Deku Mask contains the spirit of the Butler's Son, then that makes the game even more dark and sinister that I'd previously thought.

Think about it: The wthered tree (son) was located in the place before you get to the clock tower, right? That would mean that the Butler's son would have to go inside the Clock Tower. This would also mean that he would have to pass the Happy mask salesman. The disturbing thing is that, seeing as small and fragile as the child looks in his Elegy of Emptiness potrayal, why didn't the Mask Salesman didn't stop him? He knew it would be dangerous with Skull Kid in the area. So he kinda had forthought that the Deku child was going to die.

To me this suggests that the Mask Salesman was pulling a few more strings than previously thought. Maybe he allowed the child to die specifically so Link could get the mask, setting off the events of Majora's Mask? Disturbing. It makes me start to think that Link coming to Termina was no accident.
