The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

This thread, or perhaps group, is an appreciation thread for 3D Zelda games that aren't Ocarina of Time. Why can't people understand that OOT isn't a gift crafted by the hands of god that can't be matched?

MM offered better atmosphere and challenge.
WW offered fantastic, smooth gameplay, and uniqueness.
TP expanded on everything OOT had in the first place, except for sidequests.

I could go on, but I'm pressed on time! If you're sick and tired of the raging OOT elitists who can't shut up about how much better OOT is than other 3D Zeldas, join here!

Honestly, I have no idea where to put this, so I slapped it in this board.

This is a good thread. Somebody needs to convince me that after I purchase, play, and beat Wii TP, I do not need to buy OOT. (But it does look so good...)

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

I have nothing to say about the stupidity of this thread other than...

ELITISM ELITISM ELITISM is all I seem to get in this. So what if other people think OoT is better? I'll admit, OoT MQ is my favourite Zelda but I fail to see how preferring it over the other games is "elitism", nor do I see how OoT is a "godsend", even if it (well, the remake) is my favourite.

I hope you don't really mean to sound loud and aggressive. You could just wait until people post supporting points for the other games, and then provide a rebuttal.

Oh, the Irony. You call your "group" Anti-OoT-Elitist, when what you really do is being an assy elitist yourself.

Some people just doesn't understand the word opinions.

Why be anti OOT? Why can't we like all of them? I do.

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

I must say that Oot totally rocks. But MM is amazing too. I can't say that I am a huge fan of TWW though. I do enjoy playing it after the other games have driven me crazy and caused me to pull out my hair.

It does make me mad though, that some Oot fans are so close minded they refuse to play any other Zelda games. ..(my own sister is one of them) ..it is sad because they are just missing out on so much.

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

this whole thread is subjective. seriously. when someone starts to get irked over an ONLINE community trying to promote the flagship zelda title that got zelda popular, then there are some issues, if you get pissed over the oot advocates, then dont visit the threads that OPENLY say oot on them

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

I would like to mention that insulting Ocarina Of Time is just as a common occurance as those who worship it. It has become a frequent 'fashion' to dislike Ocarina Of Time, or the people who place it as their favourite. I choose to base my admiration of each individual Zelda game based on its time. Ocarina Of Time is the very best Zelda for its time. However, overall better Zelda games have been released since Ocarina Of Time, that is undeniable.

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

At first, I thought that those who zealously preferred OoT would be the ones acting snobby and elitist (which seems to be a pretty untrue stereotype), but it seems that those who like other 3D Zelda games more than OoT are the real elitists... at least on this board.

It is hardly 'undeniable' that better Zelda games have been released, as well. It's all opinion, and while I have fun 'arguing' opinion by providing reasons as to why I prefer one Zelda over another, it doesn't really make a difference.

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

go to the bottom of this post if you don't want to see my reasoning

let's see, OoT sidequests/minigames *some of these are a bit iffy*
*a sidequests is something that takes some time or startegy, not just bomb wall get stuff and usually involves npc interaction*
Spoiler (Highlight to read):

shooting challenge *2?
mask trading
bombchu bowling
100 gold skulltula challenge
main trading sequence (with two timed portions)
race the ghost
horseback archery
gerudo training ground
mask judging
stop the rolling goron * 2
waterfall diving
horseback racing
FISHING WOOT

tell me if I missed any

most of these minigames were in fact pretty shallow, [pun] like the water full diving [/pun] *gets stabbed* and easy to do, on to majoras mask

-notes-
must restart game in order to replay bosses (sucks)

majoras mask sidequests/minigames:
Spoiler (Highlight to read):

invasion of 'them'
protect the milk from bandits
anju kafei assignment (3 day)
shooting challenge *2
couples 3 day challenge
deku playground
sword mastery school
most of bombers notebook
beaver racing *2 (greatest thing ever)
goron race
cleansing spirits one - ghosts
cleansing spirits two - minibosses
combine the big poe
island jumping game
temple fairies
almost every mask
inside the moon mini dungeons
break all the pots at once
-horseback racing (don't remember if it's necassary)
feed the fish
goron torches challenge
follow butler
trading sequence
witches target shooting game

probably more but can't remember as of now

-notes-
can completely redo any dungeon without restarting, awsome!

in summation, MM had many more minigames and such then OoT and they were all done much better. Especially the races.

now on to TP minigames/sidequests (up to the completion of snow head to my knowledge)

Spoiler (Highlight to read):

pop the balloons
canoe down the river
flight by fowl
star game *2
100 poes
bug collection
wild wild west shoot out
goat herding
snowboarding/sledding *2
find A BUNCH of heart pieces
sacred grove challenge
FISHING WOOT

I haven't really been doing sidequests so tell me if I missed some

In conclusion in terms of sheer number of minigames, TP/MM > OoT.
in terms of level design, TP > MM > OoT
in terms of ease of death MM > TP >OoT
in terms of puzzle difficulty MM > OoT > TP (TP really does have easy puzzles and the water temple had sissy water leveling instead of cool water leveling)
in terms of even item use MM > OoT > TP (I'm sorry but they took the best item in the game *spinner* and only used it for TWO ROOMS even if they were the best two rooms)
in terms of fishing TP > OoT
in terms of graphics TP > MM >OoT
in terms of use of instruments OoT > MM > TP (only howling at a few points)
in terms of frustration (greater the more) OoT > MM >TP
best character development MM (everyone has their own life) >TP (midna is awsome) > ...........................OoT (none for the most part)
best unique gameplay mechanic MM (masks) > TP (wolf) > OoT (aging)
most fun 'tween dungeon content TP (the story progresses between dungeons with lots of unexpected minigames and battles)> MM (zora eggs, castle, ) > OoT (ice cavern, bottom of the well)

conclusion:
overall graphics/effects TP > MM > OoT
overall gameplay TP > MM > OoT
overall originallity OoT > TP > MM
overall content TP?MM>OoT
overall sound TP>MM>OoT

conclusion - TP>MM>OoT

let's play present some factual basis for opinions instead of criticizing others

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

How can you have 'factual basis' for sheer enjoyment? I could care less how well made you think each game was, nor am I in the mood to construct a gigantic argument as to why I like OoT better when I know I enjoyed it more. What else is there to say?

Second, none of your conclusions were factual. Graphics, gameplay, originality, content, and sound are all matters of opinion. You can attempt to disprove me all you like, but, in the end, I'm right. There are no facts presented in your post, only opinions. If you think otherwise, no offense, but you're simply ignorant.

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

I don't have time to list everything but lets see, in terms of graphics, TP runs in 480p 16:9 while OoT and MM run in 224 - 480i (probably around 320i). In terms of audio I believe that OoT uses basic 8 bit midi files while TP uses 16 bit midis and two mp3 tracks. There is much more style in TP and MM then OoT (which wasn't all that varied, traveling in time didn't really change that much except zoras domain but it is ALSO frozen in TP) and there was more eye candy. Originality is also quanitative, if a game has a new puzzle it is more original, if it just reuses a classic puzzle it isn't. In terms of sound, zelda has always had midi but TP does have some nice old and new tunes. By the way, many songs like zeldas lullaby are from A link to the past. In terms of gameplay there are more things to do as already shown and the time it takes to do them in TP is longer. I would also like to ask you just when you played OoT because maybe your are putting a lot of emphasis on nostalgia. We aren't comparing apples and oranges here, TP is effectively fan service and story aside is a new gen revamp of ocarina of time. Everything in the game is reminiscent of ocarina of time which you probably notised when you played and I stand firm that TP does do everything better and MM is an improvement over OoT.

Anyways, I can't argue what you enjoyed more because that would be boardering fascism but if you had never played or heard of OoT before and then played today after TP then I can garantee that you would like TP more.

I'm trying to be objective when I compare these games, this isn't a 'which game had a bigger impact on gaming'

by the way, I don't call myself an elitist, that's just silly and please, tell me what specifically you liked more or had more fun with and why. If you say 'Everything' then you aren't worth talking to.

Re: The Anti-OOT-Elitist Thread, Join Now!

Why can't everyone realize that all 3D Zelda games created by Shigeru Miyamoto are great in their own rights? I love OOT, MM, and even WW when I feel like it. TP I will most likely buy tomorrow, and I'm already sure it will be a fine peice of art.
