The Ancient Civilization of Ikana

The other night I was listening the marvelous work of Koji Kondo & Toru Minegishi in the form of Majora’s Mask OST and the sad tunes of Ikana valley and its surrounding made me wonder who were the Ikana? Since basically the only things I remembered about this region were the almost impossible hunt for stray fairies and the horrendous gibdo man and his daughter I decided to ask the almighty Wikipedia for some advice and while reading the short paragraph it had about Ikana I started to memorize parts of the puzzle.

So the ancient lands now infested by the living dead were once the home of two proud but war-like people Ikana and Garo. Their countless war drove civilizations into decline still centuries after the fall Ghosts of Garo- and Ikana soldiers still roam the valleys fueled by some foul magick, hate, pride or god knows what.

It seems that the lower parts of the land belonged to the Kingdom of Ikana whose skilled monarchs had clashed with the Garo ninjas for centuries. I assume that Garo were the people who built the Stone Towers, though I could be wrong. Still I suppose Garo at least lived, at least that is the place Garo Master, leader of their Clan is fought.

What started the war I do not know, if the Garo did not built the Stone Towers maybe they were tainted by the power of that temple or maybe one of the races wanted to expand, as we all know there are countless reasons for war, but only few for peace.

So here is what I managed to gather about this subject, now I’m going to throw the ball to you guys hoping you could educate me some more.

I dunno.........you seem to have formed a much more developed opinion on the matter then anyone else I know!

There is not much to say about Ikahna I suppose, besides theories. It is a horrific place considering tthe negative energy that traps and holds wondering spirits (like the Poe Sisters), as well as the people of the region like the garo and the Ihkanas.

Re: The Ancient Civilization of Ikana

Yeah, I really don’t know where my interest towards that region spawns from. It has just always felt so different, ancient, magical, tainted and evil at the same time…

I don’t know if this actually means anything but Garo seem to have had some connections to the undead since ReDeads start to dance each time Link walks past them while wearing a Garo mask (although this happens with many other masks also).

If ReDeads are dead inhabitants of Ikana Kingdom their behavior is even harder to explain. It is known that Garo attacked the castle of supposedly final king of Ikana, Igos du Ikana and by that action ended their conflict and destroyed the kingdom. Garo spirits still wonder around the hallways of the conquered castle. Maybe ReDeads act this way out of fear?

Re: The Ancient Civilization of Ikana

You have a very interesting subject here. I don't feel inclined to disagree with you about the Garo being closely tied with the Stone Tower. I'm not sure they are of a race that built it though. I think they are soley "spirit gaurdians" of Ikana. I think the Stone Tower is actually more anchient than the civilization of Ikana before it became a waundering unliving society. The King of Ikana seems to say something about his people being under turmoil ever since the doorway to the tower was opened. But I could be wrong. Alls I know is that that tower seems to have a more "anchient" eir about it than the rest of anything in Termina.
