OoT and FF7 similar to you?

Well, they are both very different games with little in common, except for the fact that both star brooding blondes with big swords who assemble a crazy crew (Link meets up with bearded rock men, fish girls, talking faries, while Cloud runs around with busty barmaids, vampires and flower sellers).

But then again, I do think they are similar in some ways.

They both came about the same time (1997ish)

They were both the first fully 3d games for both franchises

They both turned the franchises into something mega popular

They both had graphics that were groundbreaking at the time

They both have become the standards for which each franchise was judged

They both are the most popular games in each series

Both are regarded as masterpieces among masterpieces

I can think of a few more reasons, but what do you think? For a while I considered7 the OoT of FF.

Re: OoT and FF7 similar to you?

Similar in success, not similar in anything else.

Honestly, Whenever I see a Zelda fan or I think about past games, The fan can remember every plot point and what made it unique, and I can too. Also, every Zelda fan seems to come off of the Zelda series thinking it is epic and balanced. Every FF7 fan seems to only remember or care about Aeris dying, Cloud being emo, and the end. That's pretty much it, and I even played the game and that's all I remember. In that aspect, I'd rather have an epic tale that is memorable than a rather cliche/emo/outcast story that can only be remembered in three segments.

Well that#'s what I meant. They have very little in common, except for the place they hold in each francise. The game that reinvigerated the francise, and unfortunately, became the comparison for every other game after it.

Zelda as a model=good.

FF7 as a model=BAD.

FF and Zelda were mega-popular long before 1997.

Re: OoT and FF7 similar to you?

Well, I thought the franchises were already popular enough. Wasn't A Link to the Past pretty revered in the community? But yeah, the circumstances are pretty similar. The actual content - less so, I think - but the high production values with the epic, grandoise feel - definitely in both.

Re: OoT and FF7 similar to you?

I wouldn't say that FFVII was fully in 3D.. the battles were but the rest.. well, I wouldn't count prerendered backgrounds as full 3D.

The first fully 3D Final Fantasy would be FFX and that one feels similar to TP in graphics style IMO.

It's quite the coincidence that both games are considered to be the best among their fanbases. Another coincidence is that I consider both to be overrated even if I do love them both.

FF7 did everything better than OoT, although OoT was great, the techincal problems keeps it from being better than FF7.

I have no clue what technical problems you're refering too but I don't see how you can compare Zelda with Final Fantasy since they are two different genres. Sure, they are both fantasy games but that doesn't mean that they belong to the same genre.

Re: OoT and FF7 similar to you?

I read the title of the thread and was like "what the hell?" But you do make some valid points. While they are similar in those aspects (which I wasn't really thinking about), I can't really find any similarities about them aside from the ones you have mentioned.

Re: OoT and FF7 similar to you?

i love both games...with final fantasy 7,i loved the amusement park you can visit, and go on the rollercoster and the arcade machines...wheras zelda,it was the fishing that would keep me ocupied for so long

sephiroth and ganondorf are both great bad guys as well

FF7 was more futuristic type fantasy, whereas zelda was past fantasy...so,gave two completely different experiences

i agree with you about them both being the best of the best in their series...the later games in both series have tried to be better but arent, and to give them credit they have come close..IMO

Well they have some similarities but OoT and FFVII are totally different storylines. Plus, I think OoT is better, but FFVII is the close second! OoT is actually number 1 on the top ten video games and FFVII is number 2. Both of them are GREAT games.
