Lightbulb The Unsolved Mysteries of Ocarina Of Time.

Ok. I think there was a thread about this, but it is probably long gone now. Plus I want to edit this page. So please let it stay mods

Red means: My theory

Blue means: Somebody else's theory, bolded in person's name.

Gold means: What we know.

Ok. I am playing through OOT again and there are a lot of things that never made it into the final game. Please put what you know and your theories about some of the Mysteries in OOT. I will update if you say some new ones.

--------------------------------------------------List-----------------------------------------------------------------

1. The drawing on Link's house.

My theory: Link made it from what he saw in his dream, himself with a fairy fighting.

Nick B's theory: Him and Saria where playing a game where Link had to save Saria from a dragon of some sort, and after they where done (or while they where playing) they drew it on the tree to remember the time
forever

The War Cheif's theory:Naturally, when you're a kid, you will draw on the walls of your home. This is like drawing on his house, probably when he was daydreaming.

El_Lobo's Theory: How do we know that it was Link who drew this? If he did draw it though, maybe it was a reflection of his desire, I mean he was supposedly strange for a kokiri (we know he's not but thats not the point). Maybe Link's dreams were to have adventures in far off places.

Mizutori's Theory: I think that Link drew it himself, as all kids have that kind of imagination - they all want to be heroes and the like. It's also foreshadowing in a sense, he might have had a dream about a future event (he has futuristic visions in his dreams as we learned at the start of the game, just like Zelda). Finally, the game designers might have simply put it there for the player to remember the first 2D Zelda games, seeing as the shield design is the same as in the originals. That would only count for the shield, as there's a fairy there.

2. The statue in the Courtyard. ( I think there is two, but I think I know one of them)

My theory: The King of Hyrule with all of the Hylians cheering for him.

Okralord's theory: I always thought it was the three goddesses

3. The scratch on the Tree in Lake Hylia.

Blue Knight's theory: I remember one guy saying that a T-Rex did it.

Daeth's Theory: The scratch marks on the tree are probably either from a quest or storyline bit that was never finalized, or it was out there to make us scratch our heads

Metalmassacre's theory: I think that the only reason there is a scratch on the tree at Lake Hylia is so that you will mess around with it and figure out there is a gold skulltulla atop it

Orkalord's theory: To find the gold skultula on top of the tree

The War Cheif's theory:There might have used to be a Wolfos battle. The scratch marks would give a clue, and then it would be like a mini boss. Note, it is in Lake Hylia, near the Zoras. They probably got rid of it, put the Wolfos in the Ice Cavern, and since they were under time restrictions, they just never bothered to remove the scratchings.

Zzanitari's Theory: The owl crashed into the tree. He thought he was going to get the gold skulltula before link did and day time came and it dissapeared(you know how they appear only at night and dissapear in the day time.)

4. The hole in the ceiling in Darunia's room.

What we Know: In an early version of the game, Link was supposed to come out of that hole after beating King Dodongo. It's not a guess or something it's a FACT. I've read in NOM UK (Nintendo official magazine UK) and many other magazines/sites.

5. If you look around Link's house you will see: Axe's, pitchfork's, apples, and a bottle. Also did anyone ever wonder what was out the window in the back of Link's house.

My theory: It is the same image showing outside of Link's house in the front. It doesn't match Kokiri forest at all

Micron's theory: I always thought that looked like somewhere in the Lost Woods.
Because if you actually go outside Link's house, look behind it and there's a wall.
The only thing behind that wall is the Lost Woods.

The War Cheif's theory: These are merely Link's personal assets. He's a Kokiri, he may have to still work. Where do they get their food from? The forest... farms. Wood for burning? The forest? They may love the forest, but they still need warmth. And those trees are merely pre-rendered graphics. Although, if you want a game (fictional) explanation, notice how all the trees in the Lost Woods are really tall and skinny, like the ones in the bridge area between the field and the forest... he's looking into the Lost Woods.

6. The holes all around Goron City.

My theory: The goron's live inside them.

GoronGeak's Theory: When dogdingos cavern was infested thay were starving
They were scavenging to see if they could find some rocks to eat so the holes are the remains of that

The War Chief's Theory: It's simple, the Goron rooms are there, like all the other shops. The females are probably hiding in there too.

7. Why does Navi turn green for random reasons.

What we know: There's a sign you can read or Pierre the Scarecrow is nearby, play the Scarecrow's Song and he'll appear, giving you a place to aim your hookshot or a Rare Red Fairy is near, play either the Song of Storms or the Sun's Song to make it appear. The Red Fairy replenishes both Health and Magic Power.

8. Why is there a Gerudo and a cow at the bottom of the river in Gerudo valley.

GoronGeak's theory: Easy one because the cow oviosly dropped and they still cant figure it out on how to get out.

ZeldaGamer1's Theory: The Gerudo is a farmer! Maybe he fell with his cow and now they are afraid to jump into the river

The War Chief's Theory: Maybe cows aren't accepted in gerudo culture, and this one's trying to get rid of it. Or it could be it was part of a quest but because of time it was just abandoned and left there.

9. There seem's to be a hidden hole at the bottom of Zora's Domain.

What we know: Mystery solved- there's nothing in the hole.

I used a gameshark hack to make Young Link wear Kokiri Tunic + Iron Boots, then went for a little investigation.

10. What happend to Lord Jabu Jabu when you're an adult.

Mobius1's theory: He was forced to leave, because Ganondorf's evil forces cause disturbances in the water, and disturbances in general. Lord Jabu-Jabu seems to be some sort of deitifed creature, and seems to be very wise. Fairly sure he survives, as Jabun from TWW is Jabu-Jabu under a different name.

Mafoofoo's theory: Or maybe he froze, there is that huge block of ice where jabu-jabu used to sit........

Phazon Goron's theory: lord jaba jaba either died, or swam away, then swam back hundreds of years later to that island.

Damien's theory: Maybe Lord Jabu Jabu died or moved on to another area.

~Paine~The~Warrior~'s Theory: It is pretty obvious that Jabu-Jabu is Jabun from TWW, so he just...left. The block of ice where he would have been is NOT him, because if you examine it enough it is a totally different shape and you can see through it slightly.

ZeldaGamer1's Theory: Maybe he left after Link healed him. Because he shows up again in WW! So he left!

Bingo675's Theory: Lord Jabu Jabu fled far away and returned to Lake Hylia years later, after Hyrule had been liberated from Ganondorf's control. He could ot return to Zoras domain right away, as it was frozen. Once the flood covered the land, he floated up to the nearest island: Greatfish.

Chu Jelly's Theory: As for the Jabu Jabu disappearance theory, he was invaded and being ripped apart from inside by parasites sent by Ganondorf. Even if Link destroyed most of them, the King Zora still says that Jabu Jabu is getting to looking "green around the gills" or something like that, showing that he is ill. Over the 7 years in the Chamber of Sages, the illness must have intensified and the poor Wind Fish passed away.

The War Chief's Theory: Zora's Domain becomes very cold, so he migrates to warmer climates, just like any other creature.

11. Why do Skeleton Zombies come from the ground when you are a child and everything is normal, but don't when you're an adult and everything is in peril.

Stuit's theory: Because they only attack children. They're probably the reason why the Kokiri aren't allowed to leave the forest.

Arin/Knight's theory: This is a fact. The skeleton zombies are called Peahats and they just want to play with you, but their play is hurting someone. They don't come out as an adult because they are scared of Ganondarf's monsters.

~Paine~The~Warrior~'s Theory: The Kokiri do not die when they leave the Kokiri Forest, much like when they get lost in the Lost Woods they become Skullkids, so, when they leave Kokiri they become Stalchilds because of the evil which lurks outside their Kokiri Domain.

Pinecove's Theory: Lord Jabu Jabu died. the monster you fought in him was something that attached to his heart. oviosly Link destroyed the heart so he died.

The War Chief's Theory: Ganondorf thought they would be better off in his dungeons, protecting them, so he converted them into Stalfos.

12. What happend to Malon's mother.

GoronGeak's theory: Talon fell in love with the dancing girl in the town then she dumped him for that romeo guy or Talon fell in love with with a gerudo(they would go to the market and flirt. Most of th gerudo have red hair...

Oraiste's Theory: I always thought of Malon's mother being dead, maybe even before she was born. I'd also like to think that Epona's Song was created/written by her mother, I certainly can't see her father singing, and as an adult Indo shows a hatred for the song. At night when she's out singing if you talk to her, she says something along the lines of "Please don't tell Indo that I'm singing this song." Also, if Malon's mother was a Gerudo, I can't see her creating a song or being around to teach Malon the song, I always thought of the Gerudo's as a hit and run sort of deal, plus since Malon was female, wouldn't she have grown up to be a Gerudo guard?

The War Chief's Theory: She died at childbirth. Many women did at that time period, so it wouldn't be suprising.

13. What was Nabooru going to do for you if you got her the Silver Gauntlets.

Ganonslayer2000's theory: I always thought that Nabooru wanted to perform a sexual act with little Link for getting the gauntlets. Kind of erotic and disgusting at the same time.

Orkalord's theory: Obviously she wanted to get the gauntlets and leave you stranded. She's a Gerudo guys. What do you expect?

Mizutori's Theory: well, it's been mentioned before, but it was most likely gonna be a sexual act, indeed, or maybe just a kiss, who know? (The latter is more acceptable though...) If you think back to what she said after she gave you the Medallion, it supports this; she says something along the lines of "If only I'd known you'd be so handsome, I'd have kept my promise".
I doubt she'd just have locked him in the Temple or not actually given him anything in return - sure, she's a Gerudo, but she's also very against Ganondorf who is evil and kills people. It doesn't seem right for Nabooru, who opposes evil like Ganondorf, to lock a small kid, who went to all the trouble to get her something valuable, in a dangerous place like Ganondorf's hideout.]

Fire Temple's Theroy: I think she was going to let him join the thiefs.

The War Chief's Theory: Either just leave him, or give him some kind of treasure. Come on, she's a fully grown female, I doubt she's a pedofile. She may have been having second thoughts for adult Link, but that's irrelivant.

14. How did Malon get the cow inside your house.

GoronGeak's theory: In zelda games cows are feather light (there was on floating in the water)

Orkalord's theory: Malon made a deal with the piccori of course.

The War Chief's Theory: Horse and Cart, and then a rudimentary pully system. Or maybe she simply got Talon to hold it up, with a few Kokiri, and Malon and a few Kokiri pulled it up. Use your brains! How did they move things like that about in Medieval Castles?

15. Why did Zora's Domain not unthaw? Is there an actual reason within the story (it seemed to be only a brief mention) or did the developers wish it to be so?

F3's theory: I believe this is more of a design issue than a story-related issue. There's nothing to do there after completing the Water Temple (And it doesn't appear that there ever was), so nobody bothered to have it thaw out. Zora's Domain is thawed in the credits, however.

Orkalord's theory: It takes a lot of time.

ShiekahSage's Theory: Technically, if the game let you go to Zoras domain after you kill Ganon, it would be thawed, but Nintendo didn't feel like remaking Zoras domain after it thawed out.

The War Chief's Theory: There was no reason, with nothing to do in there after. The developers saw it as useless, and used the time to do something useful, like make a Spirit Temple.

16. I have another question ,if 7 years past and Link became an adult becuase of the Sacred Realm Power... when did he cut his hair, put him ear rings, and got those golves etc etc that doesnt fit at all.... or maybe they dress him lol and navi?

Newguyonthebloc's Theory: On the gloves issue, all i can say is that they are the same gloves, but they stretched and the fingers were cut off, also, the realm may just show link as what would of happend 7 years in the future,if he hadnt stayed there.

~Paine~The~Warrior~'s Theory: His hair isn't shorter for a start, if anything it is longer. So that makes sense. Next, he has earings becaaaaause...well, I haven't an answer for that, these sorts of things in such an old game are passable. I believe the clothes he is wearing grow with him especially since he was sealed into the Sacred Realm for four years, and besides what's he going to wear when he comes out? Nothing? Magical powers give him the same clothes grown. His gloves are obviously given to him too, well, because they're cool =P

Hylian Guardian's Theory: He probably woke up and was still wearing his old clothes and had longer hair. When Rayru saw that he was old enough to be the Hero of Time, he dressed him in clothes that would fit him better and cut his hair. The Hero of Time's got to be good looking, you know? Link just doesn't remember because the Chamber of the Sages was opened and he was still only vaguely awake. When he woke up fully, Rayru had made him look nice, and he was a bit surprised.

Oraiste's Theroy: In video games, hair doesn't grow and people can wear the same set of clothes after seven years of aging, this is what I've always thought. It's a video game, it's not nesisarly realistic. Also, in the non-cannon manga, it explaines that the Sheikan men used to receve ear peircings as a sign of manhood, and in this manga, Impa peirces his ear and puts a loop in it.

Acid's Theory: The sacred realm keeps hair from growing, that and nails, are the only thing that cannot grow in the realm. That is why Link as no facial hair either. His clothes are elastic and that would answer your question

Mr. Crowley's Theory: His clothes are of rare kind of rubber... OR it is Rauru that has made him ready for the world when his seal was soon to be gone. Who leaves a hero naked, hairy and uncool on a journey to save the world? Only Ganondorf would do that.

ZeldaGamer1's Theory: Link was trapped in the Sacred Realm for 7 years and there he grew out of his old 7 year old clothes (obviously) and the Sage of Light made his Kokiri Tunic larger for him, the ear rings I can't explain, and Fairies live forever so Navi waited until Link awoke!

The War Chief's Theory: Rauru. You're sitting there for years on end, you're gonna want something to do. Also, he knows that Link's clothes won't fit him anyway, so spare him the embarrasment, and dress him up!

17. Who put up the Gossip Stones?

What we know: It says in TWW that the gossip stones were made by the royal family as a form of communication

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am very observant this time while I am playing OOT. I will update you on some more if I find any.

That extra ending isn't true. When I first got OOT (I was young), I named Link Zelda, nothing happend. Good mention though.

Re: The Unsolved Mysteries of Ocarina Of Time.

I always wondered about the scratch on the tree in Lake Hylia. I have no idea what it represents, or how it got there. I like your theory about the statue in the courtyard, as well as the drawing on Link's house. As for the hole in Darunia's room...I don't remember that, so I'll have to check it out next time I play.

Best explanation I ever heard went like this: In an earlier version of the game, Link descended from this hole after completing Dodongo's Cavern. There's nothing up there, and it's not clear if there ever was.

I have a really lame explaination for that I heard, but I think it's dumb enough to be funny enough to be worth mentioning.

I remember one guy saying that a T-Rex did it.

Told you it was dumb.

Re: The Unsolved Mysteries of Ocarina Of Time.

There are a lot of oddities in Ocarina like there were in Goldeneye 007 (just go to a fansite, huge compilations of Unsolved Mysteries).

In my opinion, most of them were just blips that weren't ironed out. I would agree that most served a purpose but the purpose was taken out. I don't mind, I find it interesting. There is an absurd number of theories revolving around the Zora's Domain hole. My favorite? That it leads to a shop with all the items for really low prices.

Well, Navi usually turns green when-
A: There's a sign you can read
B: Pierre the Scarecrow is nearby, play the Scarecrow's Song and he'll appear, giving you a place yo aim your hookshot
C. A Rare Red Fairy is near, play either the Song of Storms or the Sun's Song to make it appear. The Red Fairy replenishes both Health and Magic Power.
