Favourite part in OoT/MM from an artistic standpoint?

Hey guys, new member to this forum... Been a Zelda fan since OoT first came out, so not since the true beginning. I've gotten back into Zelda recently due to the release date of Twilight Princess drawing ever so closer, so ive been reading up on these forums (not in teh spoilers section) and remembering fond memories of when i played the games teh first time through.

So, on to the thread, i ask you... What was your favourite part of these games from an artistic and memorable standpoint? Perhaps the part that whenever you think of the games is the first scene that comes to mind?

For me, in OoT it would have to be the Spirit Temple, When you first arrive and look upon it, with the great music in the background and captivating scenery. The first time i saw this temple i was instantly more impressed with it than the others in the game, Whilst the puzzles within may not have been as enjoyable, the outer scenery and music to me was nothing short of spectacular.

The entire feel of MM to Ocarina was completely different, most would say. I personally enjoed the game alot more... the darker, more intelligent story braught me into the game a bit more. And whenever the 3rd day would roll along, I would feel that sense of urgency. Especially in Clocktown, where the music would all of a sudden feel slightly more sinister, and the depressing conversations you would have had you not completed certain sidequests within the village with NPC's. I think they did a really great job in creating the mood.

I didnt go into much detail on my choices but mostly because i want to hear some of yours first. It can be a cutscene, a stretch of gameplay, the scenery/level design or even the music.

So what are yours?

Re: Favourite part in OoT/MM from an artistic standpoint?

aside from all the music in Ocarina of time...

this is tough...

well, the final battle with Ganondorf was always striking to me, especially when he is a monster. the music is amazing...it just feels so epic.

and hyrule field. i just love it! again, the combination of visuals and music is perfect.

As for Majora's mask, i like the beginning of the game, especially the cutscene where link is transformed into a deku scrub.
i totally agree with you about how great the dark atmosphere of that game!

....but i like ocarina just as much...i have too much nostalgia for that game.

Also in Majoras Mask, i love the song of healing. it makes me feel so calm...but at the same time makes me want to cry!

I like the design of Clock Town. The colors are so warm and make me feel like im right at home, and there is so much detail to everything, especially inside the buildings.

And welcome to Zelda Universe!

First of all, Hyrule Castle is possibly the most beautiful building in OoT and MM. It's just so gorgeous, sitting among the lush green hills, in it's glowing glory. Of course, Kokiri Forest is absolutely adorable - it's just so... welcoming? I'm not sure how to explain it. Oh, and Link's ocarina playing is magical.

// And welcome to ZU ^^'

When Sheik revealed himself to be Zelda in disguise, my first glance at the desert collosus and the stone tower in majora's mask, when ganondorf transforms into ganon and most importantly, at the end of Ocarina Of Time when Navi and Link go their seperate ways.

Re: Favourite part in OoT/MM from an artistic standpoint?

Artistically, all of it. The entire setting of both games were not only well realised, they were notably unique in many respects.

Ocarina of Time. The first thing to notice is all the green forestry of Kokiri Village. How about standing anywhere in Hyrule field and seeing Death Mountain, complete with smoke/fire ring?

Escaping the ranch with Epona, when the game shows you a little scene with Link riding out into the field, Epona rears her legs all to the backdrop of a sunset complete with flare. Emerging from the Temple of Time, to find everything in darkness and in ruin.

Majora's Mask took all of this, and gave it a surreal twist, whilst still retaining its quality. All of the components on the clock tower, as bizarre as their design was, still completed the mechanism for it all to work.
The swamp was probably the most diverse area in all fo Termina, lots of vibrant, contrasting greens and purples, with a light haze around the water, creating a stagnant effect, but remaining pleasing to the eye.

Termina bay, swimming or walking underwater, you could see lots of little shellfish or starfish, but above water rocks were covered in seaweed and the water washed onto the shore.

There's so much I could cover, but I don't have the energy. In short: all of both games.

I was amazed when I first saw Bongo Bongo, that arena just gave me chills, the ambiance was amazing. I also enjoyed the music in the temple of time, and the sacred realm.

Apart from the ones said above, I'd say reaching the Moon was pretty memorable. Instead of some dark, twisted dungeon/castle or a barren wasteland we are treated to a green field with a lone tree in the middle. It was quite a shock for me.

Re: Favourite part in OoT/MM from an artistic standpoint?

I think the best part was the Sacred Meadows. It seemed so peaceful, unlike the rest of the Lost Woods and Kokiri Forest. Kokiri Forest just seemed too busy for a forest. Also, it was so perfect how it's form seemed to coincide with the Lost Woods music. I mean it felt like the Lost Woods should feel: mysterious.

OoT: the forest temple just looks like ancient ruins and has a nice artistic feel to it

MM: The swamp area has the best artistic feel.

Re: Favourite part in OoT/MM from an artistic standpoint?

Lake Hylia when the sun is just setting, the colours and senery is amazing. Can never forget the first glimpse i got of Kokiri Forest when i began playing OoT as my first zelda ever played. As for MM i must say the plain field with the tree, when you are talking with the masked children, not sure where it is but whatever its called, love that place, so relaxing...

I think that the who of lake Hylia was very well done, like khayoz said. Very pretty colors. I also liked Gerudo valley, I'm not very sure why though. I also liked snowhedge in the spring. It really did look like spring, not just like all the other areas in the game.

For me it would definitaly have to be hyrule lake and romani ranch. Both of those places are realaxing. Along with kakario village, That place felt like a real town.

The whole desert and gerudo valley etc. That was really beautiful. The interior, and the whole feeling.
Though the Temple of Time still manages to impress me. Even now, it is stunning and that Temple is right up to date with current graphics.

Oot: I think the Lon Lon Ranch because there is no fighting involved and it gives me a chance to have fun and relax at the same time. The music there is quite relaxing.

I liked the part in MM when Link found the first Giant. The Giant sang while Link played, and it gave me that chill you get when you see something cool.

Re: Favourite part in OoT/MM from an artistic standpoint?

I think the most brilliantly designed piece of architecture in both games is the large statue in the first room of the Stone Tower Temple. It looks like a distorted face sticking out its tongue, but when the temple is inverted you can see that the statue is actually a depiction of Majora's Mask, with the bottom part broken off. It's extremely unsettling.

I also love the design of the Clock Tower. It's so ominous, impressive, and surreal. It would be cool if Nintendo made actual clocks with that design.
