Exactly what I was thinking. Also many ancient and present african (and from other countries) tribes have the people pierce their ears and other places when they get to "adult" age.

I have to admit, I've asked this question myself. It's just one of those questions that just bother you and just sticks in the back of your head while your playing the game. It's a stupid question to some people, but to other people it's a good one. Though, I never did ACTUALLY bother asking. It was the developers dicision, if he wanted Link to have a earing when he got older then he did. It wasn't really meant to be so complex, just a minor detail.

Its also questionable as to where he got his adult size tunic and the white leggings and sleeves, not to mention the gloves
