The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
As you may have noticed, both The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker are direct sequels (or continuations) of the Hero of Time story told in Ocarina of Time. My question is: Which made a better continuation/sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I am NOT asking which game do you like more, I am asking which was a better continuation of the Hero of Time's legend. Give reasons for your opinion.
I personally believe that Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker were two of the best games in the Legend of Zelda series. I enjoyed both of them, but which made a better sequel/gaiden to Ocarina of Time? After thinking about it for a while, I decided that I thought Majora's Mask made a better sequel/gaiden to Ocarina of Time for a few reasons. After beating Ocarina of Time I wanted to see more of the Hero of Time. I wanted to see what he did after saving Hyrule from Ganon. I really didn't want to see some random boy become a hero and save the world from Ganon again like in The Wind Waker. The Link in the Wind Waker (Hero of Winds) wasn't nearly as interesing as the Hero of Time. All throughout The Wind Waker, you hear about the Hero of Time and the old Hyrule from Ocarina of Time. All the game is about is becoming what the Hero of Time did 100 years ago. When playing the Wind Waker, it feels like the game is telling you "Go play Ocarina of Time and see the Hero of Time save the world. Who really cares about the Hero of Winds?" That's the message I got from playing The Wind Waker. The Wind Waker just retold the Ocarina of Time story, it didn't really continue off it. In Majora's Mask, we got to see the true hero of Hyrule once again. It takes place right after Ocarina of Time. In Ocarina of Time, the game started off childish in a way, but it matured till the end. Since Majora's Mask continues right after, the game starts of as mature as Ocarina of Time ended and matrues even more till the end. In the Wind Waker, you had to start all over again. It started off kiddy and took till the end to mature. Like I said earlier, The Wind Waker just retold the Ocarina of Time story, it didn't really continue off it. Anyways, in Majora's Mask...The Hero of Time leaves Hyrule to find a friend, something he was looking for in Ocarina of Time. But unlike Ocarina of Time or the Wind Waker, Link is not saving Hyrule from Ganon. Ganon is sealed away in the secret realm, and you are not in Hyrule. It's a brand new story, but still stays true to the spirit of being a sequel to Ocarina of Time. Wow! That was a long post, but you might want to read it all. I think I brought up some good points. Oh, and by the way, I really didn't mean to make The Wind Waker look bad because I like that game a lot. So sorry if it sound like that. |

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
Well, since Majora's Mask is my favorite game, I think the answer is quite obvious for me.
The Wind Waker explains what happened to Hyrule after the Hero of Time left, but it never tells what happened to the hero itself. Although the ending of Majora's Mask is open-ended, it tells what happened to Link along the way. Also, just the fact that it's the same Link as OoT Link seems to make it a more relevant sequel, in my opinion.

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
I agree, Majora's Mask was the better sequel. But even though Wind Waker came 100 years directly after OoT, I don't see it as a sequel. I classify a sequel for Zelda as a continued quest, but I know what you're saying.
I kind of thought young Link actually was more mature in MM than OoT. He even looks different, and he is stronger. TWW just showed us what happened after OoT, mostly in the Intro. I guess it is some what of a sequel in a sense. |

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
yeh, definitely majora's mask...
one big reason is the graphics...I mean, if you continue a game(make a sequal)...I think you should make it much similar to the last one. my opinion is that wind waker didn't make that much sense if you put that as a sequal for ocarina of time...now majora's mask, it makes a lot more sense: "he fled from the place he was once considered a legend"..or however it goes, ..it just makes more sense...I don't really know any other way to say it. |

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
It's a tie between MM and tWW. MM had the same charecter (Hero of Time). But tWW told what Link did after MM and I think TP.

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
Majora's Mask is the definitive game to play if you need the Hero of Time contuinity, in my opinion. Link dosen't really develop or anything and the only thing he acomplishes(in my own theology) is saving Termina from devastating circumstances. Wind Waker tells us about the Hero of Time and such, but I think the reference is too vauge to make a "sequel" out of it. Hopefully, Twilight Princess may fill the gap and be the sequel you're looking for, I guess.

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
#1.This thread should be in General Zelda. And #2, MM was better because it had good graphics, a bad storyline(yet better than WW, still.)
/ And it didn't involve crossing the sea on a stupid 'living' boat.

Anyway, I'd definetly have to say MM because it was the same hero and It continues pretty much directly after OoT leaves off. All the fans of OoT got what they wanted in that sequel-more of the Hero of Time. Also when you make a direct sequel you really should make it look more or less the same.

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
I'd have to say tWW, because MM had less to do with the HoT (which young Link kinda wasn't... yet) and more with Termina's plot. Wind Waker is a direct sequel to OoT, and MM is a kind of... sidestory? I dunno.

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
Majora's Mask is my favourite Zelda game, but the Wind Waker seems to fit all of the conflicts that arose as a result of the events that transpired in Ocarina of Time.
Erego (tee hee hee!) I would be inclined to say that the Wind Waker is the better Ocarina of Time sequel, although, I thnk, that in order of what is the better sequel, the order is; OOT -> ALTTP -> tWW -> LOZ. |

Re: The Better Ocarina of Time Sequel.
as fun as ww was, mm was my first game, so it holds the superiority in my opinion to be the sequal, because the skull kid is in the OoT, and then link says "that was fun, i want to find him" so he goes to find his former friend, and what quest is a more pure quest, than one for a friend?
