comparison between past OOT hype and current TP hype

I was wondering what the similarites, and differences, are between the hype now for TP, and the hype from way-back-when about OOT.

Re: comparison between past OOT hype and current TP hype

I dont really remember any thing much about OoT, because (only from what i remember) it was not as expected to be as great as it was. So there was excitement, but no one may have expected how great it was going to be.

THe difference is, now we already know what they can do with this series in 3D.
We have so many ways of finding out info, and we are expecting somthing maybe even more than what the game could be.

Also, TP has attracted some new crowd. OoT was more of the earlier Zelda fans.

All of this is mainly opinion though. But frankly, i think we are getting way to hyped for this game. I want it badly, but i dont want to play it, and then be like, "Aw man!" This game wasnt nearly as good as i EXPECTED.

So the hype for OoT was that people didnt know what to EXPECT, but now people are EXPECTING too much for TP i think.

Thats me though.

Re: comparison between past OOT hype and current TP hype

I'm more or less in the same crowd with DekuQueen, being more in the 90s and remember little of the hype at the time. I was like eight when it came out, I beleive and I didn't even remember trailers on TV or anyting of that sort. And I was nearly ten by the time I actually played it first, so I have virtually no recollection of its release, I guess.

But I agreee with DQ, Zelda's fan base was probably less expanded at the time. And by TP, I think we have already lured enough guys, so it'll probably be at a bigger mass scale, but that's not bad either-- unless TP bombs really bad. Which I doubt.

Same here, plus, I wasn't into Zelda as obsessively as I am now, so I would logically choose TPas having the bigger hype, butthat's just my opinion!

Re: comparison between past OOT hype and current TP hype

Most of the Zelda sites I've seen so far weren't around until after OoT came out. So that means people didn't talk about the future Zelda OoT (back then) like they talk about TP right now. I think there was a bigger hype for Ocarina of Time after it came out and the hype's peak for Twilight Princess has been going on since we all found out about it. I think the big hype for OoT was just the fact that it was a different kind of Zelda, 3-D. And everyone loved the darkness and the mysterious adventure the game had. And Nintendo takes it even farther! Majora's Mask! Wow, Zelda is gonna be great! Now that we have experienced this, we have been waiting and waiting for Nintendo to take advantage of its new capabilities with the GameCube and finally... a Zelda game! But wait......what the?!!! Nooo!!!!What have they done to Link? He's a cartoon?! Oh well, eventually we were so desperate for another 3-D Zelda we began to actually anticipate this game. We get the bonus disc and a reservation for the new game called "The Wind Waker" It comes out and we rush to the store to grab it before it's gone. Well, we play it...hmm not too bad! Hey this is pretty fun! Next thing you know you've beaten it and all its sidequests. So this is what Nintendo does with its new technology. A few years later a rumor begins... who drew this awesome picture of Link? He looks different! I go to click a link to a video. YES!!!!!!!!!!!! My dream has come true!!! The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess... I'm waiting for it and I think I speak for everyone when I say, I could not be any more hyped about this game if you showed me how to find the triforce in Ocarina of Time!

Well of course. Zelda is like fine wine: It gets better as it ages.

Not necessarilly true. If you look at most Zelda forums (such as ZU), you'll find that most members are quite young and fall under the "OoT/MM" era meaning that OoT and/or MM was one of their very first Zelda games (people are naturally attracted to 3D games that 2D games if it's their first experience). Just like OoT brought in a crowd, I think TP will do the same. So sooner or later we'll see "TP fanboys" and whatnot.
