Re: What was it?

It was the mask itself. Notice that the mask is what took over Skull Kid. It might have been someone else at one point, but it certainly wasn't Ganon, becuase on has to die to become a mask, and Ganon was just sealed away.

Re: What was it?

Perhaps someone died who was purely evil (excluding Ganon, of course) and their deathly spirit was entrapped in the mask.

Re: What was it?

I know the answer!!!
Long ago there was a evil named Majora (monster sorcerer or something) that plagued the land of Termina. Before Majora destroyed the land the wise men sealed Majora away in a mask now called Majora's Mask. They hid the mask in a mountain cave. Many years after that the Happy Mask Sales jerk came and found the mask since the ancient race of people were gone. Then the Skull Kid mugged him and took the mask and when he put it on Majora's seal was broken and Majora basically took control of the Skull Kid's body and used him to try to bring destruction back to the land.

And you know the rest, if you haven't finished the game.

Re: What was it?

The problem with your theory is that the Majora's Mask came from Hyrule, not Termina.

One has to die to become a mask? Where do you have that from? Personally, I don't think that the mask itself is the evil. Remember when the Mask Salesman said, 'Oh, so the evil has left the mask after all'? That's evidence that it's not the mask that is evil, but a daemonic creature that's sealed within it.

Majora's Mask did not come from Hyrule. What gave you that idea? Ganondorf and Majora were two different evils in two different places. Please give me a logical explanation of how the heck you figured out that Majora was from Hyrule.

Re: What was it?

I suppose he said that because the Happy Mask Salesman is in Hyrule in OoT, and in the Lost Woods when Majora's Mask is stolen from him.

Doesn't it say somewhere that it was used by an ancient tribe in their hexing rituals? I'll go and check the text dump...
Aha, here it is.

Quote:
The mask that was stolen from
me...
It is called Majora's Mask.

It is an accursed item from
legend that is said to have been
used by an ancient tribe in its
hexing rituals.

It is said that an evil and wicked
power is bestowed upon the one
who wears that mask.

According to legend...

the troubles caused by Majora's
Mask were so great...

the ancient ones, fearing such
catastrophe, sealed the mask in
shadow forever, preventing its
misuse.

But now, that tribe from the
legend has vanished, so no one
really knows the true nature of
the mask's power...

...But I feel it.

I went to great lengths to get
that legendary mask.
When I finally had it...

I could sense the doom of a dark
omen brewing. It was that
unwelcome feeling that makes your
hair stand on end.
And that's pretty much all we know about it.

You should pay more attention to the game. The Mask Saleman came from Hyrule. He was in the LOST WOODS, in HYRULE when Skull Kid stole the mask. Therefore, the Majora's Mask is from Hyrule or somewhere in that world.

And where did I say they are connected? Vaati and Ganon aren't connected, but both are enemies of Hyrule.

Re: What was it?

The evil power of Majoras mask was from an evil member of a tribe that lived long ago. When he died, he put his evil spirit into the mask. That's what I think. Don't know where I got that idea, though.

Re: What was it?

Majora's Mask is an evil mask that was used by an ancient tribe for hexing rituals. We know that it possesses all that wear it. However, we don't know what the dark force behind it is. It is not Ganon, because the game does not take place in Hyrule, and I doubt Ganon's power could extend into another dimension.

Re: What was it?

I read somewhere that the MM official manga explained the origins of Majora's Mask.

I remember something about someone dancing an evil and deppressed monster to death, and making its face into Majora's Mask, also evil.

The mangas are not canon. They are "official", but only about as official as the CD-i games. The mangas also preach other tales of romance and such, and we all know how seriously those are taken. Nintendo simply selects writers and artists that they think will make good material within a certain degree of accuracy.

Actually he was a travelling salesman, that means that he ain't from Hyrule. It means he could be anywhere. Also, how do you know they were in the Lost Woods? Were there when it happened? Do you see a sign that says 'Lost Woods'? Another thing, how does that mean that Majora's Mask is form Hyrule? Hyrule and Termina are two totally different places. How could Majora be from Hyrule and decide to go torment some other country? Please give me info on how you know they were in the Lost Woods and that Majora is from Hyrule.

True, but I think it is as close as we will ever get to finding out the origins of Majora.

Re: What was it?

as was said above, the mask was used in hexing rituals. The mask was cursed itself, and i´m ot saying that someone put a spell on it, by the dark magic used by the tribe that created it.
