HIM & Avenged Sevenfold

Personally, I love the band HIM! Favorite one! They have a very melodic sound with love and death combined. A little like Romeo and Juliette.

Avenged Sevenfold is absolutely amazing! The guitarist is what is most unique. Their new album is great, check that out. My favorite song from the new album is Dear God. Any thoughts?

Dam. I was going to start a A7X thread but it looks like I waited to long.

I will say some stuff about A7X anyway.

Avenged Sevenfold Is the best band in the entire world! I love almost all there songs they kick major ass.
Best Cd they got out is Waking The Fallen.

Current members
M. Shadows - lead vocals, piano (1999 - present)
Synyster Gates - lead guitars, piano, backing vocals (2000 - present)
Zacky Vengeance - rhythm guitars, backing vocals (1999 - present)
Johnny Christ - bass, backing vocals (2002 - present)
The Rev (The Reverend Tholomew Plague) - drums, percussion, vocals, piano (1999 - present)

Bio: Band name and lyrical content

The band's name is a reference to the Book of Genesis in the Bible, where Cain is sentenced to live in exile for murdering his brother. God marked him so that none would kill him on account of his sin; the man who dared to kill Cain would suffer "vengeance seven times over" (KJV). The title of Avenged Sevenfold's song "Chapter Four" references the fourth chapter of Genesis, in which the story of Cain and Abel takes place. The song's subject also appears to be this story. "Beast and the Harlot", yet another song derived from the Bible, comes from the book of Revelation only it is written in the first person and refers to the punishment of Babylon the Great, world empire and seat of false religion. Another biblical reference occurs in the song "The Wicked End". In this song, several times it is said "dust the apple off, savor each bite, and deep inside you know Adam was right." making reference to Adam eating the forbidden fruit. Although the band's title and members' stage names make references to religion, Shadows stated in an interview that they are not a religious band. "Anyone that reads the lyrics and really knew anything about us, they would know we're not promoting either," he said. "That's one thing about this band that I love is that we never really shove any kind of, like, political or religious beliefs on people. We just, the music's there to entertain and maybe thought-provoking on both sides, but we don't try to, like, really shove anything down anyone's throat. There's too many bands that do that nowadays, I think."[1] The band has a few songs that are somewhat political in nature like "Critical Acclaim" and "Blinded In Chains".

Studio albums
2001: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (re-released in 2002)
2003: Waking the Fallen
2005: City of Evil (Gold)
2007: Avenged Sevenfold

Never heard of HIM, but I definetely think A7X is as horrible as Slipknot, which says a lot (except for maybe 1 or 2 songs at least).

I wouldn't call their guitarist unique. every single A7X song i hear (I have city of evil, and have heard other A7X songs), I can immediately pick out the influences. like on Sidewinder, it's james hetfield rhythym style all the way, other songs have flavors of early metallica, etc...
A7X is just a new generation of young guys carrying on the traditions and styles of classic metal. I admire them for it, but I don't consider them very unique.

Haven't heard much by HIM myself. They don't really appeal to me.

As fro Avenged Sevenfold... well. I'm not really a fan of metalcore, but they do have some decent songs (Seize the Day is quite good). The drummer and lead guitarist are both fairly good if nothing special, the other band members are sub-par at best.

And they are all idiots, though that doesn't have any bearing on their music.

H.I.M.: When I first got into their music, I really love it. But it seems like it can get a bit... boring after a while. I do still like "Vampire Heart", though. :3

Avenged Sevenfold: Out of the songs I heard, I do like them. But they're not really on my list of best bands ever.

A7X is not the best band ever, but man- the latin guitar solo in Sidewinder gives me shivers every time! it's awesome!

as for HIM, the only song I've heard is that stupid song about ripping off the wings of a butterfly.... GAG
that's such a cliche' "I'm so dark and poetic" thing to say, not to mention the song sounds like a cheap, pseudo-christian rock band piece of garbage.
Maybe It's just a terrible song that happens to have mainstream appeal, but I think it blows ass and if it's any indication of the rest of their music, I would pay them to put down their instruments and STFU.

Do you mean uniqe in terms of appearance?

If you mean unique in terms of music style Margar is right.
