Any Ska fans here?
I've recently re-found my love for Ska. Anyone else out there enjoy it? My favorite band has gotta be Streetlight Manifesto. Not only is their wholly original work awesome, their re-recording of Keasbey Nights trumps the original. Catch 22 was clearly not big enough for Tom Kalnoky's awesome song writing talent.
A runner up to Streetlight for me is probably the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Other notable mentions are Reel Big Fish and Five Iron Frenzy.

Re: Any Ska fans here?
Streetlight is amazing. I used to listen to them all the time when they first came around, and saw them live about five times. Catch 22, and Streetlight are by far the best. MMBS are okay, though they're a little too popish I think, I dunno.
Want really good old school ska? Spring-heeled Jack is the way to go. You won't regret it.

Re: Any Ska fans here?
Ska's dead, guys. :3
That being said, get me some Specials, Skatalites, Selecter, English Beat, and Desmond Dekker any day over this alterno-punk swill that you wannabes call Ska. :3

Read: that you don't even know what ska is? Look up one of the bands listed above and then compare it to the totally edgy and completely original stuff that is "Spring Heeled Jack", also known as "Reel Big Fish Lite". If you want real ska, you've got to go at least two-tone or earlier, man - you know, to when ska didn't have the option of selling out. Check out some Symarip and you'll know real ska, and you'll know that you don't like ska. But then again, most posers your age don't like songs that don't appeal to how hardcore they are and how much they think that everything around them sucks. It takes a lot of stompin' to get to the moon, guys, and you adolesent whiners don't have what it takes to get there. :3

Re: Any Ska fans here?
Whoa, it's not that I don't like ska, as you said, I just don't know a lot of really old ska. But I'd much rather listen to early 90s "ska" as you call it, rather than a lot of todays stuff, with a few exceptions.

Early 90's "ska":Ska::Wiggers:Black People
Just wanted to make sure everyone in this thread knew that. :3 Also, you guys should check out some real ska. Desmond Dekker's "The Israelites" is a very good song to start with. :3

Re: Any Ska fans here?
I had my ska phase in high school. I'd listen to pretty much everything from the classic two-tone to the "punk" ska third wave. The Specials, The Skatelites, Catch 22, Streetlight, Big D and the Kids Table, Reel Big Fish, Five Iron Frenzy, Madness, Less Than Jake, etc etc.
I still listen to a bit of The Specials and Madness, and Reel Big Fish as well. Less Than Jake is still one of my favourite bands. I still enjoy ska, but not the same way as back in high school when it was all I was about for about a year.

Re: Any Ska fans here?
I've listened to a little bit of ska and really loved it. I want to get some really good ska music, so what bands would you guys recommend? I've listened to one Less Than Jake album, and I've heard a bit of Catch 22. Are those considered up there in the ska scene or should I listen to others?

Re: Any Ska fans here?
Five Iron Frenzy is the only ska I have right now, but when I get a little more cash, there's some other bands I want to check out.
