Weezer

Weezer is one of my favorite bands ever. Sure, their newer stuff isn't as good as the old, but it's not terribly bad.

Post your opinion on the band and favorite songs. Mine are The World Has Turned And Left Me Here, Only In Dreams, and Falling For You. In The Garage is also a favorite because I can relate to it well

Blue album is stellar
Green album is pretty good
I haven't heard much off of Maladroit or Pinkerton, but I'm told they're both very good.
The new stuff...eh. It's catchy, but it's just not the same.

Only In Dreams is my favourite song, awesome outro.
Hit Me Baby One More Time cover is really good too.

Weezer is my favorite band other than the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have the Blue Album, Maladroit, and Make Believe, plus a few selected songs from Pinkerton and the Green Album (like El Scorcho and Hash Pipe and Island In The Sun). I absolutely LOVE Weezer. Yes, Make Believe was kinda weak, but what the songs lack in originality, they make up in message (The Other Way should be the National Geek Anthem).

I can honestly say I have never heard a Weezer song that I hate, even though they have a few songs that are weaker than others, such as Only In Dreams, No One Else, Fall Together, Haunt You Every Day, etc. I love their catchy lyrics and their hook-heavy guitar pop. They were originally called "Alternative", but they're essentially power pop now. I don't have a problem with it, though.

Apparently their new album is going to be leaning more toward the Alternative genre, though. Due out in June (originally April, CURSE THEM!), Rivers Cuomo (frontman, of course!) has said that the album will have "longer songs, non-traditional song forms, different people writing and singing, instrument switching, TR-808s, synths, Southern rap, and baroque counterpoint." It's gonna be AWESOME. I can hardly wait!

By the way, my favorite Weezer songs are (get ready, it's a long list): My Name Is Jonas, Surf Wax America, Say It Ain't So, In The Garage, El Scorcho, The Good Life, Island In The Sun, Hash Pipe, Photograph, American Gigolo, Dope Nose, Death And Destruction, Burndt Jamb, Slob, Possibilities, Hold Me, Freak Me Out, We Are All On Drugs, The Other Way, and Perfect Situation. As you can see, I have lots of favorites. I love them so much, that I would have a very hard time choosing just one. In fact, I couldn't.

Weezer is definitely one of my favorites. Like the poster above me, I have never heard a song by them that I hate, but Make Believe was a bit lacking.

Nobody has lived until they have heard Pinkerton. If anybody out there wants to listen to a good ol' enjoyable Weezer album, go and buy Pinkerton. All of the songs are FANTASTIC.

My FAVORITE songs are a 3-way tie between:

Pink Triangle
Across The Sea
In The Garage

Wait did you say Only In Dreams is one of their weaker songs? wtf... I think it's the only song that actually gives me goosebumps.

Weezer was one of the first bands I listened to back in high school, and still one of my favourites.

The Green Album is my favorite album, but favorite songs are Say It Ain't So and Island In The Sun. Weezer is a great band, they deserve more credit than they actually get.

The new Weezer album is coming out in June. From what I've read, this one will be "The Red Album". I have a preview of their new song (only 32 seconds, but meh.)

YouTube - Weezer - Pork and Beans (Album Six) Preview

Hey, I like it already!

Pinkerton.

Make Believe.
The Blue Album.

Maladroit.

The Green Album.

This is how I feel about Weezer's albums, best on top, spaces representing how much better one is than the next. Why is The Green Album so low? Allow me to ruin it for you. It's very uninspired. Listen to the guitar solos, first of all. All ten are the EXACT SAME tune as the vocals. It also clocks in at under 29 minutes long, which is just not enough length to be a full album in my opinion. Rivers also puts less heart into singing for The Green Album than any other, and it shows. It's mostly because his greatest accomplishment, Pinkerton, didn't do well, and he poured his entire soul into that album.

Anyway, Make Believe is great. I LOVE Perfect Situation and This is Such a Pity. Pardon Me stands alone as a Weezer song in that it doesn't end with a simple vocal pitch change, as 90% of Weezer songs do. It adds a couple extra lines, which hit really hard.

Pinkerton is my favorite album of all albums I own to sing along to. Rivers is a very infectious singer.

I like Weezer.

I don't have a favorite Weezer album. I just like certain songs here and there.

"The Good Life" is such an awesome song.

I have the Blue Album on tape (lol), and Pinkerton on CD. I won't list my favourite songs since I like every song on both albums.

I sort of lost interest with them after their little hiatus in between Pinkerton and Green Album though, so I have no opinion on any of their stuff since Pinkterton. I've been meaning to check out their newer stuff but since my taste in music has evolved over time I've just never bothered.

I like Weezer. However, the hardcore Weezer fans ruined the band for me. The kinda kids that walked around in high school with plaid shorts on quoting songs constantly. Christ, it was annoying. That said, my favorite song is "Buddy Holly" just cause it's so damn catchy and fun to sing along to.

I hope this album tries to fix music like some other artists recently have been doing, by doing stuff that isn't done often.

(Silverchair, Panic at the Disco, Gogol Bordello)

Panic at the Disco aren't trying to fix music. Their last album was little more than a pretentious, annoying record that was trying to emulate a Beatles-esque style with musicians that don't have the skill to pull it off.

I know (and have been to) a town called Weezer, which is in Idaho.

Aside from that, I have no idea about the band.

Everyone who throws around the 'Pretty Odd = Beatles' claim is a moron. Two songs at the MOST were even remotely Beatles-esque.

The Beatles spanned so many styles of music that it's hard NOT to sound like one of their songs. They're like the Clash of pop music.

I was very happy with the new Panic, and did not like the old one. And I'm right.

well the band themselves stressed that they weren't saying it was supposed to SOUND LIKE the Beatles, but be Beatles-esque with regards to stepping out and doing something unexpected/different/pioneering.

And different it was. I've never heard anything like it in popular music. Which means that popular music may in fact start to stray away from playing stuff that always sounds the same, in effect saving music.

Victory for Asci.
