Morning Musume

Well I haven't really noticed any boards relating to JPop so I'll be the first...
For all who don't know Morning Musume is an all female Jpop group (Actually all of Hello! Project is made of female JPop artists) which has encountered huge sucess in Japan. It has a large number of members which have switched throughout the years (old members graduate and go solo while new members come in). Anyways the group now has a show called Haromoni and used to have a show called Hello! Morning (Haromoni replaced it a year or two ago) and it also used to have a number of subgroups (minimoni, tampopo, pucchi moni etc...).
I've been pretty much obsessed with Morning Musume for the last couple of months... currently my favorite members are Mari Yaguchi and Ai Kago.
Anyways who else it a fan of MoMosu?

Worst thing to ever happen to music.
Probably.

They're not popular here anymore though, outside of their hardcore fanbase.

Aye, but wouldn't you say that majority of Jpop signers tend to lose interest quickly since the music industry is so high paced?

Not really. Morning Musume never had strong staying power. They are a group geared towards an otaku fanbase, and while that is a hardcore fanbase, the groups catering to it are not going to be loved by casual music listeners, or "normal" people.

A lot of really popular bands and singers in Japan have had a lot of staying power;
Mr.Children, BUMP OF CHICKEN, Yuzu, SOUTHERN ALL-STARS, etc.
They're the kind of bands that appreciated by people of all ages because of their music, not because they have cute, underage girls.

Never had staying power? Although they're not as big now (or as good now, I don't even listen to their recent stuff, I'm not arguing they're popular now), during their "golden age" in the 1-4 generations of members they were almost always high on the charts. And who says everyone appreciates them just because they have cute girls? Although that obviously is true for many (and that applies to everything. Movies, Music whatever) not all, the music actually is enjoyable.
LOL, there's my "angry" ramble.....(It seems like I made a bad choice when I decided to put up a Morning Musume topic....)

Staying power means having more than a few hits though. When they first started out they were not popular at all; and although they did have some really big hits, their popularity outside of otaku is almost non-existent. Kids at my school call them disgusting, annoying and stupid; most Japanese people see that Under-16 idol culture as being disgusting (Those who aren't otaku).

I'm not going to start on the music. Haha.

I used to be a fan for a brief period of time years back.

Well whatever, I won't try to argue since you probably know more about what is currently thought in Japan about it...

Nonetheless in a question toward this entire forum:are there any current fans except me on this site?
