Alice in Chains vs. Nirvana
I really love both of them, Nirvana has more songs I like from them, but I like Alice in Chains more as a band.... AiC for the win

Alice in Chains is/was a good band. Quite a lot more interesting than Nirvana ever was.

Both are good bands, but I have to say Alice in Chains. If it weren't for them, some of my favourite bands wouldn't exist today (ex. Godsmack). Their music is also really awesome, always keeps me in the mood, so to speak.

Nirvana? I mean, they had a good drummer, but aside from that, a rather lackluster performance.
Alice in Chains was a band, not just a drummer and two crappy bandmates. Kurt wasn't very good. He could make a hook, sure, but that only puts him on the same level as the guy that wrote the jingle for Bounty paper towels.

I guess Alice In Chains wins, just because they're not Nirvana. But then, it's not like Nirvana would win unless they were put up against something even worse, like the Sex Pistols or The B-52's.

AiC definatly. Mostly because Nirvana didn't have time to flourish...but then again, Chains were at the top of their game by Dirt, so--besides, Nirvana really wasn't that OUTSTANDING anyway.
Quote:
I didn't think Kurt could sing very well. Foo Fighters accomplish way more within 2 records and Novelselic just kinda died away and is still talking about the good olde days. The lead singer of Chains was something mystic and haunting...perhaps like Kurt in a away, but not near as rapidly annoying. What makes you say that? Is it the monotoned singing or the repetitive hooks and guitar riffs? Just checking, honey. Last edited by Coma Black; 02-28-2008 at 06:07 AM. |

I love both bands but Nirvana I would have to say takes the cake. Technicaly speaking Alice In Chains were better musicans and had a better singer. But musicly and emotionaly I just get chills everytime I hear a good Nirvana song. There was something about Kurt that promised change and if it wasn't for him Alice wouldn't have got famous at all... But Kurt left this world before his time and a lot of us miss him...

You mean to tell me that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has better sound than say "Man in the Box" or "Rooster"? Wow, you need to get out more in the grunge scene.
Asking if Nirvana or AiC is better is like comparing a ripe apple to a rotten orange. Alice in Chains of course, would be the ripe apple. |

AiC wins when it comes to song writing and talent, but Nirvana were better sound makers. So, I chose Nirvana, but AiC were better musicians.

Alice in Chains will forever be the better band, if only for the absolute gem that was Jar of Flies.

AiC is my favorite band. Too underrated. Nirvana is somewhere in the top 10, next to the other 90s and late 80s bands that I love. |

well nirvana never liked the term "grunge". they always thought of themselves as punk. I'm not sure what AiC considered themselves...
A friend of mine saw AiC last year when they toured with a different dude singing (of course... ) And he was VERY skeptical at first because he's a 90's FREAK! but afterthe show he couldn't stop raving about how awesome it was and how he did Lane justice. |

Tough choice. So what I did was pit my favorite songs by the two against each other.
Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seatle beat Grind.
