Question The gaming industry saving the music industry?

I found this on yahoo just now:

Can Video Games Save The Music Industry? - Video Game Feature - Yahoo! Video Games

I always wondered that since gaming is at a high right now, if it can help with other industries or the economy in general.

What's ya'lls opinions about this?

I love playing video games with awsome music on them. I dunno why but it adds like 50% more fun to the game if I like the music thats on the game.

I have gotten into tons of songs/artists that I like becasue I heard there song on some V game. I would have never heard them other wise.

So I think that V games help the music industry.

Right now I am listening to the Overworld theme from LA. Computer game themes are all I listen to and learn to play on my keyboard. So, yes, I like them vay much. But I didn't realise the music industry was in any trouble, or needed "Saving". Granted, the stuff out there now, particularly the dreaded "Techno", is absolute crap. But there are still a lot of people out there who like crap.

I was unaware that the music industry was in need of "saving".

^Exactly. The music industry doesn't really need saving, the infastructure that supports it does. That infastructure is kind of useless anyway now, so saving it would be a little like giving a zombie CPR.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I really hope stores keep CDs in stores. I like iTunes, and have bought plenty of songs off it, but nothing can compare to having a physical copy of the music you can hold.

Especially since you don't have to worry about "Protected Files" and you can have a hard copy.

Besides, there is something that feels so good about ripping open a CD's packaging and putting the disk into your compy for the first time.

LOL stoppit yer makin me all hot...

(ick)

anyway, While I love the fact that games like guitar hero and rockband and GTA have introduced older music to young people, I'm also worried that the process of getting one's music into a game will be corrupted too. I mean how would it be decided who's songs get in the game? bidding? the creators personal prefference?
I think the game industry helps music gain exposure to a certain niche crowd, but as for is "saving" the music industry, I fail to see how that would work.
There's only so many video games, and only so many people playing certain games, and there are TONS of musicians out there. seems disproportionate.
