What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
Now what really makes Classic Rock better. I know alot of people who prefer Classic Rock. Was it because Classic Rock bands worked harder. I personally enjoy them both. One of my favorites are Guns n' Roses, and Van Halen.
As for my original question, what makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock? |

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
I believe that no one musical genre is "better" than another. I listen to both classic and modern rock, and while I find both to be enjoyable, I tend to listen to modern rock more. I still have a tremendous amount of respect for many classic rock bands (even some that I don't particularly like) because some of them pioneered the musical practices and styles that have lasted or evolved into what music is today. At the same time, just as people find a lot of artists today unenjoyable, some find many classic rock bands unenjoyable, myself included. As with everything in music, it's a subjective matter of personal preference and tastes.

Nothing, in fact I will surely take dredg, Our Lady Peace, Muse, Mew, Cursive, Porcupine Tree, etc etc over any classic rock band.
Classic rock has this tendency of being boring as ****, aside from The Who.

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
Classic rock= ? Do we mean The Beatles or do we mean Motley Crue?
50's= Elvis had some nice hits. 60's= name one artist that's not over rated 70's= Aerosmith, the Who etc. I find it as an improvement over the 60's. 80's= Underground/not big= gewd, mainstream= not so gewd (actually for the most part horrible), though "Live Wire" is pretty good. 90's= Depends if you like Korn and Nirvana. I do. In fact I'd say an improvement over the 80's 00's= I hate the pop punk w/o the punk stuff, I like a lot of the hard rock/ metal going on. In conclusion people find Classic rock better than modern because a lot of them where in there teens when those songs came out and remember hanging out listening to Lynyrd Skynerd (who rocks) and going to a Led Zepplin (same as LS). In fact that's what my name always mentions when I talk about concerts.

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
The difference in todays rock and yesterdays rock is what was going on in that time period. For example, the 60's is when rock started to be a big part of American culture. This made it very original, and artists could really sing how they felt about anything. This gave it that very strong effect that people still love today. Some people do though, enjoy modern rock, because of the fact it is new, and deals with our current time period. This brings out some of the feelings of people today, which we understand simply because we are growing up in the same period of time. Because of our understanding, we like this music (at least some of us do). This gives both genres thier own feel, and gives them both thier own good points.

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
The I've noticed today with 'supposed' rock bands are. They're are switching to Alternative music, as innovative as it sounds. Is it really rock, it tends to deprive interest in modern day rock, atleast from my understanding.
And Dark Nite, my overview is anything from 70's -early 90's stopping at 1993. I mean me, personally I like Classic Rock, Punk, Classic Punk to be specific, and well anything Metal. In that 70's 80's period, bands seemed to put more effort lyrically, pretty much through all areas. |

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
Honestly, I like today's rock more. But oh well.
Classic Rock and Modern Rock are all the same except... Classic Rock doesn't have lyrics like "I'm gonna cut you up, and you're gonna bleed".

"Modern" rock (what it is obvious you are thinking of) sounds NOTHING like Goth music. You obviously have NO idea what Goth rock sounds like.

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
You see... Classic Rock was when music was starting to become accessible to everyone. What I mean is, is that before, in olden days, not everyone could play an instruement, but in the 2nd half of the 20th Century, everyone had access to an instrument, and they just let the creativity flow.
Back then, in the 60's and 70's, there were no stereotypes, people just let the music flow, this is why it seems like there is so much creativity. The Beatles, The Doors, Cream, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, and the list could go on for pages, but you get the point. These bands all had different ideas, and they played them the way they wanted to. Modern Rock, on the other hand, is still quite diverse, but now, it seems people are in it more for the money than anything. Which is why a lot of bands not only sound the same, but are only around for 2 to 5 albums nowadays. Because when one of these new bands writes a catchy song, a whole bunch of people cream their pants over this ONE tune, and then feel the need to go out and buy all their albums, and clothing materials, etc... until the same thing happens again. It's just what I see happening nowadays.

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
Classic rock bands had the ability to garner nearly universal critical acclaim while still having the ability to fill a fieldhouse wherever they toured. Very few modern groups can claim both those characteristics.

Re: What makes Classic Rock better than Today's Rock?
The Doors.
Period. Classic Rock basically PWNS "rock" of today. True, there are some exceptions but: Classic Rock > Modern "Rock". Classic Rock has more originality than today's does. Every song today sounds the same and is mediocre at best. Back in the 60's and 70's, people were thinking more about what was happing. Vietnam, Watergate, Equal Rights. All important topics. Basically, people then thought. People now, do as they are told. Any guitarist here should know that rock of today consists of mainly power chords and a less-than-impressive solo. Led Zeppelin's Stairway To heaven has a great solo. Pink Floyd's Time solo is outstanding. I could go on but I'd rather people learn for themselves. Classic Rock also had the softer side. Some rock songs then had a softer gentler side. Songs today that try to mimic that feeling basically turn out to be: I hate my life kill me now, songs. Livin', Touchin', Squeezin' by Journey just started to play on iTunes so I'll use this as an example. It shows that the SINGER can actually SING. Another difference between classic and new rock. Classic Rock = Singer's Sang Modern Rock = "Hey, can you scream?" "Yeah." "AWESOME LEAD SINGER BABY!" No. Singers sing. Best singer ever? Jim Morrison. Go ahead, I'm prepared. Anyone that differs in this point of view will argue that he talks his songs and does not sing. You have no other argument. Even when he was lit like a Christmas (sorry, Holiday) Tree, he could articulate better than any other singer of that era, and definetly of today. Articulate link leads to dictionary for those of you who don't know it's meaning. Ok my fingers hurt now so my rant is over. Closing remarks? Classic Rock > Modern Rock
