Ska, anyone?

Who here likes this genre of music? It grew on me after a while, and now it's all I ever listen to.

My top three ska bands would have to be Five Iron Frenzy, Reel Big Fish, and No Doubt (when they were in their ska phase. Refer to their first album).

I just love the sound, rock with horns is so satisfying.

Re: Ska, anyone?

It's good stuff. Nice, clean, harmless alternetive rock that dosen't get too much mainstream exposure(not implying that it's good or bad but that's just how it is). I've really only heard of Five Iron Frenzy and No Doubt to good rates, but from what's there, I like it. At least, it dosen't get the "negative"(from what I see) punk label on it. Mhm, yeah.

Re: Ska, anyone?

Yeah, I haven't heard much other than those, but I'm trying to get into more. I'd say that it deserves to be a mainstream genre of music, but that might corrupt it. Suburban music is just that way -- Suburban and underground.

Re: Ska, anyone?

I like ska, but I don't listen to it as much as I used to. You should try some Lucky Boys Confusion, Mad Caddies (I think that's how you spell it)... I can't think of anymore ska bands at the moment. But yeah... one of the few good music genres that hasn't been touched by the evil medias such as cable tv and radio.

I saw RBF last year. Funnest concert... ever. Their stage presence is so energetic and you can tell they're having so much fun. Some bands, they just go on stage, play, and that's it. But they're so interactive and funny. If they're ever playing around you, you should totally go.

If you like ska, I think you'd like culture punk like Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy's, Gogol Bordello (They're this AWESOME gypsy punk band, almost like a troupe, and the members are from all over the world. They're so much fun and their music just makes you want to dance all freaking night. I HIGHLY suggest them.)

Re: Ska, anyone?

I enjoy ska immensely. I listen to all different types, from the classics two-tone groups like The Specials to the newer third-wave "punk" styled ska. Favourite ska band is Less Than Jake, obviously, then Reel Big Fish...then pretty much the rest. I've never really been a big fan of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones though...but other than them I can listen to almost any other ska band.

Re: Ska, anyone?

Spunge and Liberator are very good british ska bands. Spunge have less horns and Liberator are less well known but are really great. Check them out if you like ska.

Ska started out as Reggae with horns (generally trumpets, trombones, and sax's...even though that isn't technically a horn). Eventually it evolved into a more punk sounds, still with the horns.

Ska predated Reggae.

Ska is a pretty cool genre. I love The Untouchables, the Toasters, RBF, Aquabats, Streetlight Manifesto, etc. Good stuff.

Re: Ska, anyone?

Big No Doubt fan here.
I like ska, and that's a good word for it - satisfying.

Would you consider less than jake ska?
Their stuff varies but does have a pretty big third wave ska sound.

Re: Ska, anyone?

Yup, love ska. Mostly listened to the third and second wave.
Operation Ivy
Mighty Mighty Boss Tones
Catch 22
Reel Big Fish
I'd say Less than Jake is ska. Well, at least Wiki thinks they are.

Re: Ska, anyone?

I like a bit of ska, mostly the British ska bands like The Specials (most notable song "Ghost Town"), and Madness (most notable song "Our House")

Re: Ska, anyone?

Ska is amazingly unique. There's a really good ska band at my school. "Three Blocks to Murdock", I think they are called.

A good ska band is also Five Iron Frenzy, they're amazing.
