Ini Kamzoe - Here Comes the Hotstepper.

An amazing rap song if there ever were one.

Whiskey "Pile of Bologna". You simply must love any band who writes a song with "bolongna" in the title.

Re: One hit wonders

This my seem kind of wierd, but Hendrix. He's considered a one hit wonder because the only song that ever cracked the top 100 was All Along the Watchtower.

I see where your coming from, but i really dont understand how Hendrix is a one-hit-wonder given he has made so many extremely popular songs including: Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (slight return), Bold as Love, Little Wing, Castles made of Sand, Foxy Lady, Stone Free, Fire, If 6 was 9, Crosstown Traffic and many more (All Along the Watchtower is not even considered to be his best song, though i think its good) And i dont see how any one-hit-wonder could be entered into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame which The Jimi Hendrix Experience did ages ago.

One band thats looking to be a one-hit-wonder in my opinion is Alien Ant Farm (anyone remember those dudes?) with 'Smooth Criminal'.

I was watching VH1's 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders and my jaw was on the floor when Hendrix was mentioned. I said the exact same thing you did. "Purple Haze? Voodoo Chile? Hey Joe?"

Re: One hit wonders

Edwyn Collins with 'A Girl Like You'. Or his old band Orange Juice with 'Rip It Up'. I wouldn't call him a one hit wonder (I've never liked the term myself anyway. And it's unjustifiable some people are one hit wonders), because I think he is an absolutely fantastic artist, and a top person overall, but the rest of the world views him as a one hit wonder. Most don't know him.

You could actually call Aztec Camera (brethren of Orange Juice on the Postcard Records of Scotland label) a one hit wonder with their song 'Somewhere In My Heart', but they are a bit more widely known than Edwyn Collins/Orange Juice are, since 'Somewhere In My Heart' was a No1 song in the UK. Though apart from 'Somewhere In My Heart', they never really had anymore hits I think.

Sir Mixalot: Baby Got back!! Well, it's not the best song but I can dance to it hard out when I'm clubbing I can't stand hearing it any other place- but on a dancefloor, that is a totally different story

I just founds some info: In 1967 Jimi's first single "Hey Joe" went to #4 on the UK charts. Not only that, the followup single "Purple Haze" shot straight to UK #3. VH1 must've been looking at the wrong charts, either that, or they are really, really, really, stoopid.

Re: One hit wonders

Yeah, what with Hendrix being considered a "One-Hit Wonder" artist, I'd say he's my favorite...next to the dudes who made Sweet Dreams, Shout, and Tainted Loves. They have great rock covers.

YES! VH1 is VERY, EXTREMLY, STUPID! The only good channel that displays good music is Fuse (on occasion) and MTV2 (for the rock countdowns).

Dexy's Midnight Runners. Particularly their song "Come on Eileen", good retro 80s stuff.

Re: One hit wonders

Joan Osborne.

Her one hit was a lousy song compared to the rest of her work, but she is certainly my favourite artist who can be considered a one hit wonder.

Just listen to her rendition of Dylan's Man in the Long Black Coat. You'll understand why I love her.

Re: One hit wonders

Probably Blind Melon. They pretty much only had one hit with "No Rain." The video and the song were pretty popular...if you've seen the video, the bee girl in it was given a movie contract afterwards because of the popularity of the video. It made it to #17 on the U.K. charts and #21 on the U.S. singles charts. The band may have been able to be more than a one-hit-wonder if the singer hadn't died, but that's the way things went so...

Top 40. Also he had multiple hit albums, the singles didn't do great, but the albums and concerts sold very well. Also he it's the Jimi Hendix Experiance. Which the tickets were sold as. He considered (I guess) himself in a band.

My favorite actual 1 hit wonderer is Iron Butterfly.
