Hmm...Emo...

I'm a little confused as to what Emo is exactly. I've been explained about it is many times, but I really don't know any bands that are exactly "Emo". The one that kind of stood out to me was Hawthorne Heights...? Emo?

Can you give a couple band examples?

Re: Hmm...Emo...

Hawthorne Heights, Armor for Sleep, Taking Back Sunday, Daphne Loves Derby, Something Corporate, Thursday, The Academy Is..., Duct Tape, Matchbook Romance, Fall Out Boy, Alkaline Trio, The Hoodies, and [the newer] A.F.I., are all emo bands.
There are plenty of others, like Bright Eyes, but I lack the time to list them all. I personally love emo music mostly for the sound of it. I mean I like the music, the lyrics can be good, can be whiny, can be bad, but to me, almost all emo music sounds great.

If you want to further learn what emo is, try going to PureVolume and searching said bands.

Re: Hmm...Emo...

It's like punk, only worse and whinier.

It's called "emo" because of the belief that emotion is put into it, when emotion is put into ALL real music.

To further clarify things, I have a handy comic for you:

That should explain it. Honestly, you are better off being ignorant in this situation, though.

Damn cap, I was going to use that comic.

But yeah, you pretty much want to steer clear of emo music as it's pretty much crap. I only like one band and they have only semi-emo songs.

Re: Hmm...Emo...

Yeah from the bands you listed none appeal to me much. My Chemical Romance I believe is also an example of Emo.

I liked that one song "Ohio is For Lovers" by Hawthorne Heights but that is about it.

Exactly, ignorance isn't always a negative quality.

I hate people who stereotype. I wish I could punch them until they **** out their hearts!

Seriously, five bucks says you've never met an 'emo' kid in your life. I'm what falls under the category emo, seeing as I love the genre and listen to lots of the stuff. And I don't run around shouting out my problems, I don't whine, I don't cry, I don't slit my wrists, and I don't mope about and not do anything. I'm actually quite the opposite.

And many of my friends that love emo are the same as me, an average everyday person. Just because someone listens to a certain type of music does not make them the stereotype that falls under that genre.

Re: Hmm...Emo...

To be "Emo" you have to have the attitude. If you listen to the music, and consider yourself "emo", but don't have the attitude.... you're a poser.

Re: Hmm...Emo...

Hahaha, oh, so I'm posing to be a whiny and self-loathing fool? There's a concept for you, heh. So if I want to be a rapper, I must have a sweet ride, money, and women?

Really, stop stereo-typing. I use terms like 'emo' and 'rapper' to identify someone who listens to a certain genre of music. Not to label people, like you so coldly do.

"Rapper". You're comparing a type of person to a genre, which is "Emo".

Re: Hmm...Emo...

LOL. Okay, allow to rephrase:

"Rapper". You're comparing a type of person to a genre. (and the genre you are comparing a rapper to is the emo genre).

Re: Hmm...Emo...

Um. No. No I'm not.

I'm not comparing anything. It was an example. I said:

Which is the stereotypical rapper. I was trying to say this:

Stereotypes are radical. Rarely ever true. They are stupid. Thank you.
