Re: Blurrhead listens to the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

The top 500 seem very good, but I wonder what albums in the later part of this decade could make it on. There's been some good music in the rough.

496. Destroyer - Kiss (1976)

So...when I decided to listen to this album, I didn't have great expectations. I never really liked Kiss, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I didn't like it. I listened to half this morning and the other half just now and I was put asleep. It wasn't worth the wait either, it took a while to find. It just seemed like generic rock to me, but I wasn't in the best condition listening to it. I might give it a try later on at some time, but right now I'm just going to move on through the list.

Don't bother. Kiss is so bad.

Wouldn't be that difficult, but I don't think there'd be enough participants.

Re: Blurrhead listens to the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

Well, yeah, 100 would probably be the easiest to do. But its more a question of getting enough people to put together a top ten or twenty so that the list would actually mean something. If there's only like a dozen people contributing it wouldn't really be a very definitive list.

Re: Blurrhead listens to the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

Even if a hundred people contribute it's still not very statistically significant.

Re: Blurrhead listens to the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

True enough. But hey, could still be fun.

Basically it would just get people to give top ten or twenty, with number ones getting twenty points and working backwards from there. Then add everything up and spit out a list of like fifty or one hundred, depending on how many actual entries there are.

^ Depends how objective we wanted to be about it.

By the way, listening to all of those albums is a great idea - although I can't help but think that whoever compiled that top 500 albums list had their nostalgia goggles firmly in place.

Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

Good question. I suppose that would depend on what most people would prefer to do. Greatest would probably create a somewhat more comprehensive list, whereas a favourites would add more variety.

Re: Blurrhead listens to the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

Favourites would be a far more interesting list. "Greatest" would just mean we end up with the same typical answers (Sgt Peppers, Pet Sounds, Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin IV etc)

Then I'ma go ahead and do favorites. I don't see the point in another greatest list. I want a creative, original, fun little list. And if there are 20 beatles albums in the top 10, I'll cry.

Re: Blurrhead listens to the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

Haha. This is pretty neat. A thread being planned within a thread. Good luck, guys.

Anyway, I'm going to continue with the list I'm working from.

495. New Day Rising - Hüsker Dü (1985)

Well, what can I say, Kiss's "Destroyer" was a disaster. A mockery to be placed ahead of Public Enemy. I decided to put the past behind me and listen to the next album on my journey, and that would be "New Day Rising" on September 28, 2009.

Wow, I can already tell that I'm starting to fulfill my goals: I'm expanding my taste in music. Now, I'm really not into punk. At all. But this album helped me respect it more just a little bit. While most modern day punk bands have trouble finding a good balance between heavy and melodic, I think Husker Du found it. Every song is enjoyable and has spunk. I was hoping maybe this album would be some sort of influence for Social Distortion, but that was after I realized that SD came first. Maybe I'm just overpraising this because it's just that much better than "Destroyer", but I found a new love for punk. Thank you, Husker Du.

Husker Du are one of the few hardcore punk bands I can stand, Zen Arcade and New Day Rising are excellent.
