Classical Music Discussion Thread
I'm not sure how many are out there who listen to the genre, but we seem spread a little thin, so I thought maybe a thread just for this genre would be appropriate.
Idea is pretty simple: just talk about classical music you like or happen to be listening too at the time. Preferred artists, what instrument(s) you play, preferred styles of playing. Repertory you might be working on or having trouble with. Anything goes really. I guess I'll start first and see if it goes anywhere..... I love the artist Hillary Hahn. She's definitely our generations greatest violinist so far, imho. This is her playing the legendary piece by J. S. Bach. and she's so beautiful too. <3

I'm a big Ólafur Arnalds fan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6u5D-5LWSg Most of the classical I listen to tends to be more modern, and usually mixed in with some other genre. Stuff like the ambient and electronica mixed stuff from Jóhann Jóhannsson and the post-rock of Balmorhea. I appreciate the classics and whatnot, but I tend to listen to more this kind of thing on a regular basis. |

Re: Classical Music Discussion Thread
Classical music is one of my top favorite genres.
My all around favorite artist and idol is Beethoven. Best and favorite Beethoven quote: What you are, you are by accident of birth; what I am, I am by myself. There are and will be a thousand princes; there is only one Beethoven. I love it lol. It was my yearbook quote. Of course they botched it up (how princes became principals I will never ****ing know, but apparently Beethoven liked to get in the faces of school principals world wide -rolls eyes-) I've been piano for about 14 years so I've been lucky enough to enjoy classical music in that way as well. My other top favorites would probably have to be Gabriel Faure, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. And other artists I like (and they really don't fall far behind my favorites, seeing how many classical artists are really all geniuses in their own right, it just depends on personal taste) are Schubert, Mozart, Bach, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Shumann (both him and his wife). Of course there's a multitude of others but I could honestly spend all day talking about it lol. For those of you who appreciate jazz as well, I highly recommend checking out Jacques Loussier. He is a french jazz pianist who does jazz versions of classical music. He has two albums dedicated to Bach (I believe they're called Jacques Louissier Plays Bach and The Bach Book) and they're pure genius. I've also listened to his renditions of Debussy and I have a CD of him interpreting Chopin on piano alone. The other versions are a piano/bass/drum trio. Definitely check them out.

Re: Classical Music Discussion Thread
It's hard for me to come up to something I don't like in classical, on any instrument. But I must say that as a chiefly guitar player I find classical guitar very interesting and fun.

I do. But if I didn't I would certainly thank you for the suggestion. His playing of Suite Castellana, I. Fandango by Torroba is one of my favorites by bounds. His PIMA control is astounding.

Re: Classical Music Discussion Thread
I have a very eclectic taste in classical music, I don't really like all the work by one composer, but I do like certian songs. Some of my favorites are:
Pachelbel's Canon in D (doesn't everyone like this?), the Rustle of Spring by Christian Sinding, Revolutionary Etude in C Minor by Chopin, and The Aquarium from Le Carnival Des Animaux by Camille Saint Saens. I currently take lessons in Piano(2 & 1/2 years), violin(1 & 1/2 years), and voice (1 & /2 years). I am probably best in voice for my age (mostly due to the fact that most violinists and pianists begin their careers as children, and vocalists do not always).
