Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

Let's see...I'm also going to include one or two television show soundtracks, if that's cool.

(500) Days of Summer
The most recent addition to my collection of film soundtracks, its great because not only are the songs really good, but when you listen to it you can recall the scenes from the film from where they were used quite vividly. So its not just a collection of songs, but ones that worked really well with the film. And that's the best kind of soundtrack.

Favourite Tracks
Regina Spektor - Us
The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams
Feist - Mushaboom
Regina Spektor - Hero
Mumm-ra - She's Got You High

[bDr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog[/b]
All of the songs on this musical soundtrack are original, obviously. They are funny, they are poignant, they are catchy, they are fun. For a cast of whom none are really professional singers (Neil Patrick Harris being the closest), they still good a good job with the vocals.

Favourite Tracks
Bad Horse Chorus
My Eyes
So They Say

Garden State
Zach Braff famously included the tracklist for the soundtrack along with the scripts he sent out for people to read, and indicated where and what parts would be appearing in the movie. It is so well-constructed he even won a Grammy for it. It introduced me and the world at large to The Shins, which also counts for something.

Favourite Tracks
Coldplay - Don't Panic
The Shins - New Slang
Cary Brothers - Blue Eyes
Remy Zero - Fair
Simon and Garfunkel - The Only Living Boy in New York
Iron & Wine - Such Great Heights
Frou Frou - Let Go

I Am Sam
I read recently that originally the plan was to actually use the original Beatles recordings for this soundtrack, but it would have cost the production over one hundred grand to afford all the licensing for them. So instead Sean Penn asked friends to record covers, and used some that already exited. The Beatles are a tough act to cover, but some of the ones on this are real gems.

Favourite Tracks
Aimee Mann and Michael Penn - Two of Us
Sarah McLachlan - Blackbird
Rufus Wainwright - Across the Universe
The Wallflowers - I'm Looking Through You
Eddie Vedder - You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Ben Folds - Golden Slumbers
The Vines - I'm Only Sleeping

The Nightmare Before Christmas
This is some of Danny Elfman's finest work. It gets a lot of hype these days, and as a reaction to that often gets downplayed a lot, but it is a great and fun soundtrack for a great and fun film.

Favourite Tracks
This Is Halloween
What's This
Kidnap the Sandy Claws
Making Christmas
Poor Jack

[u]O Brother, Where Art Thou?/u]
There's a very good reason why this album was not only a commercial and critical success, but also took the Best Album Grammy home when it came out. Consisting of almost all covers of traditional old-timey songs with some amazing vocal talent and with T Bone Burnett in the producers chair, this is just a great record, not only a great soundtrack.

Favourite Tracks
Alison Krauss - Down to The River to Pray
Dan Tyminski and the Soggy Bottom Boys - Man of Constant Sorrow
Chris Thomas King - Hard Time Killing Floor Blues
Ralph Stanley - O Death

Once More, With Feeling
The soundtrack to the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, most fans love this episode, some don't get it. I happen to love it, but I'm a sucker for musicals. This was Joss Whedon's first real foray into songwriting (this time without the help of his brothers), and the results are pretty impressive. Moments can make you laugh, moments can give you chills. A cast that is mostly untrained singers obviously needed some studio help, but it doesn't detract from the songs at all.

Favourite Tracks
I've Got a Theory / Bunnies / If We're Together
The Mustard
Under Your Spell
What You Feel
Under Your Spell / Standing (Reprise)
Walk Through the Fire
Where Do We Go From Here?
Coda

Scrubs (volumes one and two)
For a show that had an amazing catalog of music they used, the show sadly only has two official soundtracks (one being an iTunes-only release). They used a lot of great music in later seasons, which has led fans to create user-made soundtracks, but those can't really count. Still, the music the was released in these soundtracks covers the first three seasons or so, and there are some great tunes on them.

Favourite Tracks
(Volume one)
Lazlo Bane - Superman
Leroy - Good Time
Guided By Voices - Hold On Hope
Nil Lara - Fighting For My Love
Butthole Surfers - Dracula From Houston
John Cale - Hallelujah
Jeremy Kay - Have It All

(Volume two)
The Coral - Dreaming Of You
Joseph Arthur - In the Sun
Joshua Radin - Winter
Martin Sexton - Diner
Rhett Miller - Our Love
G Tom Mac - Half
Tammany Hall NYC - Cindy
Citizen Cope - Sideways
The Polyphonic Spree - Section 9 (Light & Day/Reach for the Sun)

That about covers my favourites.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

I was going to say the Matrix, but for the original score, not the licenced music.

Across the Universe had a good sountrack to it. It's pretty much all Beatles music (which I do not like) but when put to the movie, I really worked for me.

"Girl"
"Hold Me Tight"
"All My Loving"
"I Want to Hold Your Hand"
"With a Little Help from My Friends"
"It Won't Be Long"
"I've Just Seen a Face"
"Let It Be"
"Come Together"
"Why Don't We Do It in the Road?
"If I Fell"
"I Want You (She's So Heavy)"
"Dear Prudence"
"Flying" instrumental
"Blue Jay Way"
"I Am the Walrus"
"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!"
"Because"
"Something"
"Oh! Darling
"Strawberry Fields Forever"
"Revolution"
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
"Across the Universe"
"Helter Skelter"
"And I Love Her"
"Happiness Is a Warm Gun"
"A Day in the Life"
"Blackbird"
"Hey Jude"
"Don't Let Me Down"
"All You Need Is Love"
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"

The Crow Soundtrack:
Dead Souls by NIN, Burn by the Cure, Golgotha Tenament Blues by Machines of Loving Grace, etc. Oh so epic and nostalgic.

Singles soundtrack:
Breath by Pearl Jam, State of Love And Trust by Pearl Jam, Battle Of Evermore (cover) by the Lovemongers, just to name a few.

Sweeney Todd OST:
My Friends! <3 Also Pretty Women. (Alan Rickman sings! )

Those are the only ones off the top of my head right now.

The Fountain

-Just about every piece of music is beautifully constructed. Especially "Death is the Road to Awe"

I can't think of any score that beats it.

When it comes to normal lyrical music...

Mortal Kombat Annihilation....

Crap movie, but amazing soundtrack.

It's gotta be Disney's Tarzan(1999) soundtrack for me. A great movie with a great soundtrack, phil Collins really did a good job with the songs. Heres a song from the movie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1EJQ...eature=related

The best song from the movie has got to be Son of Man, but I couldn't find a high quality video of it.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

I'm going to go ahead and say that John Williams is one of the greatest film composers of all time and that any soundtrack that he was involved in is way up there for me. Otherwise...

Batman Begins is a big one for me, with Molossus being my favorite track. The Dark Knight is also quite good, with Why So Serious?, Watch the World Burn and A Dark Knight being my favorites.

Nightmare Before Christmas's soundtrack is also very good.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

John Williams is defiantly one of the greatest composers of all time. He has made so many famous memorable tracks. Here is a list of my favorites.

Star Wars(of course)
Such an epic work of music. The orchestra is absolutely amazing. It's instantly recognizable.

Blade Runner
Vangelis created one of the best soundtracks for Blade Runner. The synthesizer always seems to be played at the perfect moments. The famous "Tears in Rain" scene is a great example of the music.

Indiana Jones
The bridges between the epic chorus and the calmer love theme is always a treat to listen to.

Back to the Future
Back to the future had some of the best work I've ever heard. The musical ques seemed to be timed so perfectly it's almost amazing.

Kill Bill
Kill Bill was flat awesome music.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

Some of my favorite music comes from mostly Disney movies and some others.

However, my favorites happen to be from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Phantom of the Opera (Well, it's technically a play but it has a lot of film adaptions), The Lion King 1 and 2, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
