I love the O Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. I love me some old-timey folk songs.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

Top Gun and Scarface have soundtracks which are both basically "best of the 80s" CDs.

The Transformers animated movie also had an awesome soundtrack (best thing about it).

And of course, any film I've seen where the soundtrack was done by Ennio Morricone. Man's a genius.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

Lord of the Rings, hands down.

It has the most epic soundtrack in any movie, ever. I don't care what youhave to say, it's better than Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Titanic, and everthing else. I can play the music on my cello, and the music is amazing. It's beautiful and spellbinding. Listen to Rohan or Minas Tirith, and you'll know what I mean.

Lord of the Rings.

Rohan's, Gondor's, and The Shire's theme music, absolutely wonderful.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

I have lately been into Michael Giacchino's soundtracks for Pixar's The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The Incredibles' soundtrack is just... Incredible. It's light loungey-jazz reminiscent of the early 60's, and then it just explodes into a full-blown trumpet assault led by the amazing Wayne Bergeron, who can hit notes so high that only dogs can hear them.

Ratatouille's soundtrack is full of slick little French melodies and it's smooth and concise, just like the film. The end credits feature nine minutes of some of the best slap-bass I've ever heard (not better than Victor Wooten, but really good nonetheless).

I really like the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, too. And even though the Pirates of the Caribbean music is fairly cliché it's still fun to listen to occasionally.

I also like the haunting "Extreme Ways" by Moby, featured on the Bourne trilogy soundtrack.

Oh, and The Dark Knight's soundtrack is pretty awesome. Especially those really tense moments with the Joker where Hans Zimmer had electric cellos playing with razor blades in order to make that nasy two-tone dissonant stuff that makes you squirm...

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

Garden State and Little Miss Sunshine had great soundtracks. I'm sure I've heard other nice ones, but I can't think of any that have really stood out. (apart from the two I mentioned)

Last of the Mohicans has a great soundtrack. I happened to find 'Promontory' on Youtube, and I was so impressed, I watched the movie for the first time later that day. Good film with a great soundtrack.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

I am surprised that only two have said Lord of the Rings. I am going with Lord of the Rings as well. Also Star Wars has great music along with, The Last Samurai, Kingdom of Heaven, Halloween, and other but I don't feel like typing all of them up. Origional soundtracks are much better than soundtracks with mixed songs from different bands/artists.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

It's embarrassing to admit that I don't actually have a great deal of film soundtracks to have real favorites to pick. Pretty obvious choices are the soundtrack to Amadeus, since the entire soundtrack is pretty much a Mozart-fest, but I suppose that doesn't really count, does it? XD

Brian Tyler composes some rather good soundtracks, but I don't have enough of his works to really pick out "favorites". Shiro Sagisu really counts more as an anime composer than a film composer, but since Neon Genesis Evangelion has a film version, I'm going to cheat and add him to the list too. XD

David Arnold, who does the soundtrack for the James Bond movies, is also good at what he does; at the moment, Casino Royale has the majority of my favorite James Bond tracks. I'm also quite fond of Hans Zimmer, who did the soundtrack to all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies; I actually like all three soundtracks rather equally...okay, well, with a slight bias to the first soundtrack, but the third soundtrack has some really catchy tunes. ^_^;

EDIT: Gah. Forgot to mention Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Although I admit that the LotR soundtrack, while rather well-made, has little in terms of truly memorable tracks other than the melody of the main theme. Star Wars, on the other hand, has plenty of memorable themes, such as the Main Theme, the Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, and the recurring motif in Revenge of the Sith.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

It's been said before but I say O brother where for art thou. Soggy bottom boys rule heh heh. Other than that, Lion King for strictly nostalgic reasons, I personally can't stand most Phil Collins stuff. Not many others come to mind, but I tend not to be a movie guy anyways.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

I like the soundtracks John Carpenter makes for his own movies.
Oh, and Kamikaze 1989 had a cool soundtrack by Edgar Froese, the band leader of Tangerine Dream. And Alain Goraguer's soundtrack for the french sci-fi animated movie Fantastic Planet was pretty psychadelic. Tangerine Dream did a few good soundtracks such as Wavelength (which had a lot of pulsing synth sounds and rhythms), and Legend. And Susumu Hirasawa's soundtrack for Paprika was pretty interesting too with the choirs and bizarre vocoders and other voice samples. Philip Glass did a cool job on the Koyaanisqatsi soundtrack. Vangelis' score for the 1979 Nature documentary, Opera Sauvage, was pretty cool. And Jean Michel Jarre's work on the 1973 film Les Granges Brulees was interesting as well. Probably only really worth listening if you are a diehard Jean Michel Jarre fan though, and want to hear some of his earliest work before his '76 album Oxygene.
Love a lot of old 70s and 80s low budget horror movie soundtracks too.

X-MEN: The Last Stand had one of the best Marvel movie soundtrack around. Just listen to "Phoenix Rising" from that movie to know why.

Re: Favorite Film Soundtracks

LOTR- Great soundtrack. One of the best EVER.
Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny - I like Tenacious D, so this one is a given.
The Godfather - One of the most memorable themes in film history.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - The creator of the classic western showdown theme by the great Ennio Morricone.
Star Wars - I've loved it since I was a kid.
Indiana Jone - Classic.

Those are a few of my favorites...
