Music Chit-Chat Thread Track 01: The Rumours of My Virtue They Moved Her Not At All

Welcome to the First Music Chit-Chat Thread!

The purpose of this thread is to allow for free-flow conversation about music. Sometimes you just want to mention that you just listened to an excellent song. Or that you have fallen head-over-heels for a new album. Or you just saw the most awesome concert. Or you've rediscovered an old favourite. Just general things that may not require its own thread. That's what this is here for.

Since this is the first incarnation of this thread, there aren't any specific rules for content laid out for it. Obviously the regular rules of the forum apply. Also, the regular rules of 'no spam' apply as well.

A few more things to bear in mind:

If discussions seem to be getting in-depth, they will likely be split into their own threads.

Music tends to attract arguments, however all arguments should be kept civil. Attacking the band or artist or genre or whatever is fine, attacking a person or their personal musical preference is not fine.

So let's see how this works, then.

I have to confess.

Last night How You Remind Me by Nickelback came on the radio. And I liked it.

^ I tend to like about one song on every Nickelback record that comes out. One song is usually enough, because they all sound the same mostly.

I was just listening to a Thursday album, and it sucked. So I junked it halfway through, and I'm listening to Thrice instead. It is much better.

Nickelback have their moments of pop genius, for sure.

I think that when it comes down to it, there's a good lyricist behind Nickelback that comes out with catchy enough songs that just make up for how horribly generic the song writing is and how much of a joke Chad Kroger is.

But I like "Rock Star" more than I probably should. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the video is rad.

Some of Nickelback's songs, such as If Today Was Your Last Day, aren't that bad. However, that's the only song I'll listen to now. XD

Incidentally, how many people like bands like Drowning Pool and Thousand Foot Krutch?

See, I was a self described casual fan of Nickelback until I heard "Rock Star" and it was only then that I acknowledged how terrible they were, just because lyrically it was one of the most stupid and shallow things I've ever heard.

"Rock Star" was the first song to offend me by how bad it was, and it reigned supreme in that category until the band Shinedown released the song "Second Chance"

Shinedown is one of those guilty pleasure bands for me. I like Sound of Madness and Second Chance.

Yeah, I'm a fag.

The song isn't as offensive to ones sensibilities so long as you think of it as an ironic dig at the rock star image, rather than a literal look at it.

Whether or not that is the actual intention of the song is based on how clever the band is.

Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

@ Forte:

I don't mind some of his songs.

Love Lockdown was pretty groovy. I liked a bit of this songs from his College Dropout album. Haven't had the chance to listen to his recent ones.

Recently a lot of Weezer (mostly their Blue Album). Also got Green Day's new album, which I'm listening to now. I'm usually not one for them but it's all good so far.

Graduation is his best album in my opinion. 808s is his worst but it's still really good. I notice his intros are really good. Welcome to Heartbreak, which features kid cudi has one of my favorite music videos.

Re: Music Chit-Chat Thread Track 01: The Rumours of My Virtue They Moved Her Not At All

The other day at work that Golden Earring Twilight Zone song got stuck in my head all freaking day. Which was weird, because that was the first time I'd encountered that song in any form (including thought) in a good while (maybe years).

Odd.

Absolutely I do.

I am super bummed that I get into Jack's Mannequin now, months after I could have worked their show with The Fray. At the time I didn't care because I wasn't that much into either band. But now is another story.

Pink Floyd caused me to coin the term "Pink Floyd song", describing any song with about two minutes of quiet and boring buildup (usually including various sound effects) before the actual damn song starts.

Granted, I am actually unaware of how many Pink Floyd songs are like this (I don't listen to them... then again, I hardly ever listen to specific bands, let alone remember who's who), and they're obviously not the first to do this or anything, but I must have run into several songs like that for me to start using that phrase.

Also, the Wall was alright.
